Women's Interview Attire #4

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I also have a pearl necklace I can wear but I'm not sure if that seems flashy as well and I should just opt to not wear a necklace at all. I would really appreciate feedback on this since I know that there is a time and a place for certain types of jewelry. I just wear it every day so I am de-sensitized to how it might come off to an ADCOM or anyone else interviewing me, and I haven't been able to find much input on jewelry other than nothing dangly or cheap looking. Thanks for your help!
A strand of pearls is always fine. A pearl pendant has the same downside as the diamond pendant. They draw the eye away from your face.

Do tie clips have the safe effect?
Looking at the middle of a guy's chest does not have the same effect!
I don't have a personal opinion on tie clips, but generally, less is more with regard to jewelry.
Whatever you do, leave the pocket square at home.

This may have been asked earlier on this thread (somewhere in the 1310 other posts) but does anyone have recommendations for flats to put in your purse for the tour? I am going to wear black heels for the interview and I can go on the tour in them (I did last year) but I could barely walk by the end and I walked so much slower than my tour guide. I have black ballet flats but they cut into the backs of my heels and are SUPER uncomfortable unless I place 20 bandaids on my Achilles.

A. you need some new flats if yours do this to your tendon!
B. Ballet flats are not good walking shoes...
C. try Naturalizer, Aerosoles, Clarks, for shoes you can walk in

Not sure if its been talked about but what about nails/nail polish.
I assume neutral colors?
I may just go bare nails since I hardly get my nails done.

Everyone on here has been saying not to wear "skinny" pants to interviews since they are "fashion pants", but I am having issues finding non-slim pants that don't make me look like a child. I am 5'5 and 97 lbs. My legs are long and skinny, and I typically wear a size 000 in J Crew. Given how small I am, do you think it would be acceptable to buy a pair of slim pants? I have wool slim suit pants now that I love, and they look almost straight leg on me because I had to buy a size 0 and only hemmed the waist. They meet my ankles BTW if that makes a difference.

I am literally swallowed by straight leg pants considering they are usually wider than my waist, and feel like I look like a teenager wearing clothes that are too big for me. (I am 22 btw).

if your slacks don't look tight on you (like leggings or skinny jeans or jeggings) and reach at least to your ankle, I think you are fine.

I have the opposite problem. I am athletic, played soccer most of my life, so my legs are muscular. All pants look like skinny pants on me :/

Would these purses be appropriate? Would purse one be too large?

Does anyone have any shoe recommendations (either heels or flats) for wide toe box and narrow heel/ ankle feet?

Are ankle strap shoes frowned upon?

how do you feel these styles??

Are these okay in regards to suit pants (pic 1) and suit jacket (pic 2)? I have a matching navy version of this but want to double-check that it's okay
These both look ok. You might want to put a blouse on...

Is this appropriate? I have this set but am worried about the top not having a traditional lapel.

The other alternative option would be this jacket below (but is not as comfortable...) TIA !!

Hey everyone! I have a lot of reading to do on this thread so I'm sorry if I repeat.

Are these OK?

What do you think of this bag, size and style? they are both the same bag just different colors..

Thank you so much for your great input in this forum!

Hello! Would this be okay (they go together)? I already ordered it but now I'm worried because the fabric isn't wool, it's mainly polyester. I would love some feedback, thank you! I also plan to wear it closed.

Does anyone have recommendations of brands/styles of suit pants that are good for those with curvier bottoms? Every style (tried at least 8 pants from 4 different brands and have also sized up by at least 2 sizes as well) I have tried on so far has been very slim (even if the style is not labeled as slim) and look like almost leggings on me so they look very unprofessional...I would definitely be more comfortable in pants as opposed to a skirt or dress but worse comes to worse if I can't find not-tight fitting pants I will have to go that route.

I have a weird athletic and curvy mix body type and I got a Kasper suit from Macy's. I have never had a pair of pants fit me better (other than the fact that I had to hem them).

Thank you!! I will have to check out that brand. I tried 3 other brands at Macy’s and everything just stuck to my thighs and bottom like leggings and the bottoms would just flare out and it was awful

You might also try Eddie Bauer curvy fit, if you have any stores near you

Does anyone have a link to good boat-neck blouse. Everything I'm finding is either too embellished, see-through, or the fabric is too casual.

me too... is this too much of an issue? they are navy blue and professional looking, but "slim" and cropped to the ankle

Anne taylor has curvy fit pants that are amazing! I have a small waist and short muscular legs due to sports and they had a petite curvy size 2 that fit me perfectly. They also don't flare out they are very straight legged.

Ahh those were the ones I was eyeing but since I can only get them online I hadn’t pulled the trigger yet but I’ll order two sizes and see how those pan out

Is it appropriate to wear your suit jacket unbuttoned? Or at least acceptable?

For women, an unbuttoned jacket is acceptable. Wearing a jacket that is open because it can't be buttoned is not.

@gyngyn & others - one last question - are these flats appropriate? I want to know before I buy another pair. Pic linkedView attachment 277209
Might want to steer clear of logos like this, check out Rothy’s flats, they are not only SUPER comfortable and have no break in period but they also have no logos and are super simple!

+1 - My sister wore a pair of Rothy's walking around Italy for a few weeks last summer and didn't get a single blister! They're very classic and have a bunch of different styles, too!

Check out "ballet slippers" by essie or a similar hue if you're going to buy some polish or get your nails done. It's a classic shade - neutral with just a slight hint of pink. I think it also looks really nice on a variety of skin tones.
