Hi all,

I'm a non traditional student looking for some advice for taking online pre reqs specifically for WSU (my in state!). Has anyone had success with taking courses from Doane or Portage Learning? I'm looking to take my intro biology courses online as I work full time. Admissions would not advise other than that the course descriptions should match theirs.

Any advice from others in a similar would be greatly appreciated!

Last year I repeated a few courses through Doane while I was working and I liked it. I felt the way everything was paced was perfect for me. They’re also accredited so I haven’t had any problems with them so far.

I suggest you search their library for the book they would be using and rent it through Prime, so you can save some money.

No, since they’re accredited I believe every school accepts them. And I did ask some schools or looked through their websites and they do accept Doane credits.

School websites detail each admissions process. WSU does not interview oos applicants. Many schools don’t hold interviews for oos as the applicant pools are just too large for them to justify it. Some do it regardless. You’ll find info on each individual schools websites

I would suspect it would be by the end of this week since it's the first true week of November

WSU used to interview all applicants but stopped interviewing OOS when COVID hit.

I spoke to someone I know on the admissions committee today. OOS application reviews are just beginning. In-state applications are still in process and it does not sound like decisions will be sent out this week. There wasn't an exact date, but it sounds like it will be a few more weeks for IS decisions.
I have applied to WSU many times (5 lol) and I have received rejections anywhere from the first week of November to the week of Thanksgiving. It sounds like this will be a Thanksgiving year. I am just grateful that they send out emails now instead of snail mail.

Two years ago, I got an interview invite on November 4th. So, if they follow their trend, you will probably receive an email from them this Friday!

IS, OOS doesn’t interview and will be notified in December if accepted

Don't give up! I know many great vets that did not get in on their first round of applications. WSU previously offered application reviews in the spring. They usually send out an email with the timeframe. The application review will give you advice on how to improve your application for next year.

Thank you for the information, that's very good to know. I did get in to SGU, so if I get no other offers (I applied to 7 schools) I'm pretty sure I will accept the SGU offer and head to the Caribbean for the next 3 years. 🙂 I wish you the best of luck in your interview. WSU last year said they were not offering reviews.
This was my third time applying, and got my first interview, many do not get it their first time

They must have started that last year then. They probably had too high of a volume to offer reviews. In that case, I recommend people post in the WAMC thread.

Their website said the twentieth, so we’ll either have a great Christmas or a not so great one lol

I have been working on things every time I was denied. I first got more hours by getting a job as a vet tech. I then went back to school and retook some classes that I got lower then an A- in.

I revisited the link in the generic "we are reviewing applications" email and went to the timeline!
