I could be (and have been) vomiting up every hour, dizzy, and barely able to walk and talk ... and I'd still have to be at work functioning. Getting day-of relief is <almost> impossible; about the only time it happens is if you're legit at the (human) ER yourself, and even then it's a scramble and often we have to close the hospital for a bit (by law we can't be open without a DVM on site).

So, uh, no. No accommodations.

(I know you were kidding. It's just that our field's ridiculous scheduling expectations - for (some) GP and (most) ER and (some) specialists alike - is inane and a sore spot with me. It's unhealthy. It results in decreased quality of care. It's just dumb. But nooooooobody wants to start changing it.)

I want to change it!!! I do! I do! I really really do, because I'm ****ing wiped and there are whispers about keeping us open until 8PM instead... I'm already at work 13 hours a day, no ****ing thanks. I've flat out told the one owner (who also hates the 8PM idea) that I'd type up my notice the same day that they announce extended hours. We're already extended enough and don't have enough doctors to cover all shifts at all hospitals. The hours this field expects from people is insane. I'm ready to jump ship entirely and go man the Indian Jones ride at Disneyland.
