Wisconsin c/o 2020 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I hope everyone who went to the open house had a nice time! If anyone has any questions about the program (whether you went to open house or not), PM me. :)

Also, still looking for a female roommate, so if you're interested, PM me for that as well!!

I just declined my seat (and accepted at my IS...hard to turn down the cost savings!) so somebody should be getting a call/email/letter. Congrats to that person and everyone else who has been accepted, UW is a fantastic school! Sorry I won't be joining you, tho I suspect I might be glad to miss the cold winters;)

I'm starting to think about housing if I get pulled off of the wait list, does anyone know where vet students tend to live? Or what parts of town to steer clear of?

Incredibly difficult decision... but I just declined my OOS seat. Absolutely lovely school, but the cost difference was too much to ignore between UW and my in-state.

Hope someone on here gets my spot. In 4 years I'd love to go there for an internship/residency.

Hey ya'll. I haven't seen any activity on this thread for awhile. I had my file review with the UW SVM on Monday (the first work day after acceptance decisions were made), and I was told my position on the wait list moved 38 positions. Now, I assume the movement represents pre-acceptance decisions as it is unlikely the SVM has nailed down the class of 2020. Additionally, I was told that the OOS wait list moved 180 positions last year. I don't want to give any OOS applicant on the wait list false hope, but it was interesting to hear. Good luck to everyone starting this fall!

So have they started calling off yet? Or were those 38 positions from people removing themselves from the waitlist?
I am not entirely sure. My guess is it represents OOS applicants removing themselves from the wait list however, it is possible some people were called immediately after accepted students relinquished their seat. Maybe someone on SDN can bring to light if they have been calling wait listers.

I'm not sure how it all works, but I was told on the 8th that I had moved from 23 to 19 on the waitlist and calls would not begin until at least the 18th. So I'm assuming the 4 spots I supposedly moved were people relinquishing their wait list spots, not seats being filled in the class

Just wanted to update you all that I was called today #3 on the OOS waitlist. I had to decline as I was accepted by my in-state. So hopefully this makes someone's day!!

Just got my call!!!! I could not be happier! I was originally 23 on the wait list, if that helps anyone that may be receiving a call coming up!

For anyone waiting on the IS side of things, I was told that I moved from 19th to 13th, but that the class is full for IS. The file review I had today was very helpful, I would highly recommend it to any waitlisters.

Got a call that I got in for OOS, I was pretty far down the list though, anyone have any insight on why the OOS list got so far even though the OOS tuition is one of the lowest

I heard they're adtually raising tuition each year by $5k but that's all I've got.

Plenty of other schools go through a bunch of waitlisters too, they just might not rank them/advertise it. We also don't know how much Wisconsin over-accepts outright, so it could be less than another school, making them dip into their waitlisters more. Or it could even be the fact that a lot of people who got accepted at Wisconsin also got accepted elsewhere OOS or IS.

How many they go through on their waitlist has nothing to do with the quality of the school. :)

The OOS tuition is going up $5k a year to about $46k. So...
2016- $35
2017- $40
2018- $45
2019-2020 - $45/46

Do you mind sharing where you were on the WL?

Just so people who were very high up on the wait list know, the positions have moved a minimum of 85 steps. Good luck :)

I don't know a lot about Madison's equine program, but I do know a little about CSU. I used to live in Colorado and I shadowed a few equine specialists on the front range. CSUs equine program is top notch. I have a old undergraduate classmate who wants to be a equine theriogenologist and is a second year vet student at CSU-- she loves it. I am sure Madison has a great program too, I just can't speak to it. Good luck with your decision!

A few days ago I turned down my acceptance off the wait list, I was originally #71 so it has moved quite a bit so don't lose hope if you haven't gotten a call! But I would definitely keep in mind that tuition will be rising as samiam391 pointed out. I was considering going to UW instead of my in state MN because OOS tuition used to be lower than IS for MN, but then I saw the tuition for next year. And it is only expected to go up :/

Number #104 on the waitlist originally-- just got my acceptance call!!! I am SO thrilled ! Wisconsin was my second choice, so I am so happy to be going there in the fall :D

Does anyone know if there is a facebook group for our class or the vet school in general? I want to start looking for some room mates for the fall but I couldn't find a group there.

Looking for housing but female. I don't even know where to start....
Sooo... Is anyone else still looking for housing and is possibly a male too lol
Posting on your class's Facebook page and emailing OAA are great places to start. OAA usually maintains an intra-college list of housing listings, which was actually how I found a roommate my second year there.

Bump. I'm bringing this thread back to life.

It's official, I am IN! See you in August. Oh and for those of you who are still following the WL, I was originally #150

Hey everyone! Has anyone received any info about tuition payment/vaccinations/books? Or anything aside from the email about our calendar and exam schedules?

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile
Nope. I am pretty sure that the majority of our reading materials will be available on online modules. I think anatomy, or maybe physiology, will be the only class in which we will need a text book. The only vaccinations I have heard about are the Rabies pre-exposure series. In regards to tuition... I am pretty sure that will come at the start of the semester. If you are using Fed Loans, they will be kept by the school for payment up to the cost of tuition, any additional money will be dispersed to you between August 24th - September 4th (The start of UW's semester).

Can anyone distinguish for me, how far the waitlist moved from IS vs. OOS?

I can tell you that I started as number 11 on the instate wait list and have currently moved to number 4.

I'm surprised the IS list moved that many seats. Either way, Mizzou is supposed to be an awesome school. I think you can establish residency after a year as a student?

Yes, I was surprised as well! I am extremely excited about Mizzou :) Yes, I am able to establish residency after one year, which is amazing!
