Do you guys think i can use the same essay question response in both KCOM's and KCUMB's secondaries? The question deals with the qualities I can bring to each college.

I sort of did. I used the KCOM as the premise, then modified it for KCUMB.

hey all,

I've filled out PCOM-Ga's secondary and LECOM-erie's secondary. I just got PCOM-phila and LECOM-B's secondary today. Can I use my essays I wrote for the other branches or do I have to change them? I know PCOM asks why you want to attend the campus so I know I have to change that. Everything else I was hoping to keep the same. You thoughts?

I think I used the same for the two LECOMs. PCOM Ga wants you to stay in the atlanta area that is their goal is to have more doctors in that region, so I would write about that.

does anyone know how LECOM is on people with higher GPA's and lower MCAT's? By low I mean sub 24. Do they interview you and then reject you (like some schools I know) or do they screen you before they give you an interview?

The essays for both LECOM campuses are the same right?

I hope they are the same because I about to send them off. FO SHIZZLE MY NIZZLE

does anyone know if UMDNJ SOM pre-screens for secondaries? I just received it online today.

  • Letter of evaluation from the premedical committee, premedical advisor, or Dean of the college granting the undergraduate degree. Individual faculty letters do not fulfill this
My school doesn't have any premed committee or anything like that, and I certainly don't know my Dean of the school that well to ask him for a letter. Anyone knows what to do in this situation???

Get the letter from the Dean. I'm sure he has had to write these kind of letters before. Explain the situation, give him your resume and see if he would write you one.

Didn't you have anyone at your school you had to go to for advice on which classes to take or help you with the premed track?? Everywhere I went to school you at least had an advisor assigned to you. Just have that person write something and change the title to pre-med a advisor.

I used my normal undergraduate advisor

so i admit it. i've been slacking on my secondaries. i just took the 8/16 mcat and have been receiving secondary invites (DO and MD) pretty consistently for the last few months or so, but i was too busy studying for a class and the mcat. i guess i'm just a little overwhelmed at this point. i have a few more weeks until my scores are released and my goal is to have all of my apps submitted by then.

where do you guys think i should start - in the order i received them? in the order of where i want to go? the ones with the hardest/easiest questions first? the ones where i think i have the best shot? how did you approach it?

I can't think of a good reason not to prioritize the apps in order of where you would like to go (as long as you feel your competitive). That's what I did and luckily my first choice worked out; granted, DMU's secondary was a breeze.

the order where you have a better chance of getting in over where you think you can't

even if you have no strong desire to attend these schools? I understand the hedging-your-bets approach but I know I really got burnt out filling out secondaries and by the time I came to the end I just wanted it to be over.

I like your enthusiasm, but he needs to be realistic also ... you can have a great desire to go to a particular school, but you won't be accepted based on feelings alone. On the other hand, you can grow to like a certain school after acceptance. After all, we all aim to be great physicians. If your intent is true, you'll make it no matter where you go.

That's all very true; however, after doing research (internet, open houses, contacts currently in med school) about your schools you are applying to, can't you decide what schools will be most conducive to your learning style (required attendance, elective opportunities) and move them to the top of your list of what secondaries to get into? I also think you will be the most enthusiastic filling out those apps. You don't want to let a top choice sit at the bottom and then think "I have to answer why I want to be a DO again?"

I did a couple of the easy ones first and then my top choices. I thought it was a good idea to get some momentum going plus the first couple of essays helped me develop my thoughts better.

true ... I guess you should check out the school, etc ... but I also think it is just as equally important to look at stats and your chance of getting in ... you need to be grounded in terms of "Can I really get accepted here?"

so look at

Do I like the school? + Can I get in? = Do secondary

From my first post

more emphasis with whether you can get in or not ... considering that it is already late August

I'd do any with deadlines first, then the ones you have the best chance at and WANT to go to, then the ones with the best chance that you don't care as much about, then the ones you really want to go to but don't have a good chance, and then whatever's left.

Hey all,

I have an interview at WVSOM and am worried about transportation. I am not too keen on renting a car, so what have others done in getting themselves to the school and to the airport? Thanks!

I was in the same situation, I just called and spoke with the Dean and was honest with him about why I needed a letter and he sent one the next day or so to Interfolio for me. I know this will not be my best LOR since I don't know him, but it satisfies the requirement.

Would it be a bad move to get my applications in to a few schools that have a DO letter as just a suggestion...I dont have one yet, will start shadowing in a few weeks, and would prefer to not wait until December to get applications in that dont HAVE to have a letter from a DO. Is this not a good idea to get them in, such as NYCOM, even though the DO letter is merely suggested??

You can always send an extra letter later. The earlier you finish applications, the better.

BTW: i didn't have a DO letter. but I didn't get an interview from NYCOM (but I did from MSU and most others who had "suggested" DO letters).

I didn't apply to NYCOM, but I applied to 2 DO schools both of which strongly suggested a DO letter. I only had MD letters and was accepted to both.

It's just a formality, tell this to your Dean. It does not need to be a super letter. Don't let that bog down your application. It is only a formality. Best wishes!

On the KCUMB secondary, in what format did you answer the question, "In what extracurricular, community... have you participated? Did you guys do it in list format with or without an explanation? Or, did you look at it as an essay?

I submitted an essay format.

Hi Guys,

Congrats on the people receiving interview invites! I'm almost complete with my secondaries and I'm wondering if I'm considered late if I turn them in by the end of the month assuming the schools have received my LORs already? I've seen everyone who's gotten interviews and its kinda stressing me out (nothing against the people who received invites 🙂).

In addition, does any one know percentage-wize, how many spots already been filled by the end of sept, oct, nov, and dec?

Has anyone filled out VCOM's secondary application? If they have, can you let me know how you approached some of the deep questions that they ask in their application like how osteopathic and allopathic medicine parallel yet differentiate and what are the problems in healthcare in our society today. Any feedback would be great.

Hi. I don't think you have to say what is different between allo and osteo. I just said why I prefered Osteopathic medicine. I thought that part of the question was just a statement. As for problems with healthcare today, I talked about the main ones, i.e. cost of healthcare, and inadequate coverage (especially in rural areas).

Are you guys double spacing the essays that you have to physically mail in? I can't tell which looks more professional.

I double spaced one...then realized this was wrong and single spaced the others🙂

I have a question re: WVSOM sec!!

Does the essay have to fit into that little box they give you or can you attach an essay and make it like the others 3/4-1 page???
thanks
Mel🙂

I read the postings about this earlier in the thread, but still wanted to ask anyway....I am completing the UNECOM secondary application.

So, the question about if you know anyone at the school, have talked with anyone from admissions, etc. Of course, I am going to be honest but since this is considered an "essay", do you think it's acceptable to just simply state that that I have had no contact with anyone from the school and have not visited? If so, my answer is only going to be about a sentence long. I guess that's better than stretching it out into a paragraph of b.s., but wanted to know what other people in the same situation have done.

thanks!!

Himm. Have you talked to UNECOM students via SDN? If so, just say you had an anonymous conversation with a student on a premed forum.

👍 This question has been asked before and the same thing was advised by a UNECOM student. 😀

i just got one from my advisor, who in essence advised me about being pre-med... kept it short and sweet

i did... got an interview there coming up:scared:

Don't sweat it Tanner. Just be yourself and be honest. It's not an interrogation! And you'll probably have a bunch of med students come around and ask how y'all are doing. At least I sure did last year to the interviewees.

If you have a morning interview you may not see many 2nd years around. We don't have class that day until 1pm (except the folks who are TA'ing OMM that morning). Seeing as we will have just had our neuroanatomy final the day before, we may not be itching to be studying that morning 😀. The first years will have lecture from 9-10, then OMM lab from 10-12.

Good luck to you. Make sure you walk down by the beach on your tour.

So I just got verified...how long after verification did some of you who got automatic invites at Western get them?

Thanks

hey..

i just got my secondaries from LECOM-ERIE via email. can someone please post the secondary prompts for PCOM, PCOM-GA, NYCOM, and NSU? i know they'll be in the mail sometime this week or next week but waiting drives me nuts especially when i know i can get a headstart.

i'm interviewing with my prehealth committee this friday.. i hope they don't lag in sending out those letters...

hopefully i can be complete by atleast OCTOBER. WOOT!

THANKS IN ADVANCE and good luck. hope to see u guys at the interviews.

So as I sit here staring at the secondary prompts for PCOM, CCOM, and AZCOM. Im confused as what to put for the question, "Why do want to attend PCOM, or why do you believe CCOM or AZCOM will provide the education you are seeking.?

I know what to write for why I want to be an osteopathic physician prompt.

But Im completely blanking on the other one as mentioned above. I was thinking about (great match lists, location, comlex pass rates) but these all seem to general and I'm guessing everyone will write that. So any suggestions?

.
