A bunch of us on the east coast haven't heard anything yet, despite interviewing in october. And this cover's not just my school but a couple at least that I know of.

Is that a bad sign for us?

i'm pretty sure (at least all the info on this thread points me in this direction) that of the regional committee meetings, the only one to have met and sent out acceptances is the midwest region. and it goes by undergrad location not home state. so i think not hearing on the east or west coast, isn't bad news or good news. they just haven't met up yet.

I thought the only one was the Northeast... If you look at the earlier posts in the thread, at least 2 of them were from HYP schools. I haven't heard of anyone in the midwest receiving any news.

sorry. i'm west coast, i must have gotten mixed up on the other regions. Do we know if it is west coast, northeast, midwest, and... South? southeast?

Serikk85 was accepted and according to Mdapps, attended the University of Utah.

My guess is that they accepted a handful of top candidates in November. Hopefully they increase that number next week.

Why do they split it up based on region? That seems strange

Note that the next committee meeting is:

Thursday, December 18, 2008

Presumably acceptances, etc. are sent out the next day.
Woot...

Except I'm going out of the country on the 20th. Hopefully I don't get a letter with a mandatory quick response during the 20th-28th...

Come on WashU! <3

That's quite contradictary 🙂

What they told us was by splitting it up they were able to become more familiar w/ the colleges in that region, and so are better informed about what kind of academic background the applicant has.

So was the post that said the next AdCom Meeting is tomorrow (the 18th) confirmed by anyone or was it just speculation?

It sucks having absolutely zero information over here.

"I am from California and I interviewed on 10/6. When will the committee meet to make a decision about my application? I am aware that some people in the Northeast received a decision in November, but perhaps there is a different committee for the west coast? I am just wondering when I should expect to hear back."

"Everyone will hear something by April 15, 2009. We do not accept by regions. We have rolling admissions but can not give a date when your file would come up for a decision."

Not a very helpful answer.

aren't MD and MD/PhD's briefed at the same orientation in the morning, or do you guys get even more insider info? I'm jealous

The MDs and MD/PhDs at Washington University were very isolated for the interview process. I don't think our interview group even saw an MD applicant.

So do they or do they not accept by region? I'm so confused now....

Odd, I'm almost certain there was a MD PhD with us on interview day and went through the same orientation, however she was the only one, so maybe they combined us because they only had one MD PhD interviewing?

My interviewer specifically told me they had four regional committees, and he commented on it because I was from the west coast and he normally only sat on the midwest committee. He was filling in for someone who was unavailable that day.

Does WashU send interview emails, or is this info available on the status page?

It does indeed send emails. They will also email you a month later if you haven't responded to the first one, which I found out the hard way last year (lost email is not fun!).

I think the applications are initially reviewed by region, but the final decisions are probably made by the committee as a whole.

*sigh* I'm gonna cross my fingers that we hear something on Friday :xf:

time zone won't matter if you do it the "Bailey Method", hit F5 every minute between 3 AM Pacific until 6 AM Pacific

just kidding 🙂

Pretty sure it would be central since WashU is central but who knows.

Edit: actually 6 PST makes more sense since it would 8 central

I had both those thoughts, so I figured it would be easier to ask. 🙂

i guess the safe bet is to just check it 6 PST/8 Central/9EST

I got an acceptance email at 1:17am PST!

Looks like they've started sending acceptances again. Shemarty got in this morning. Anyone from the midwest get in?

It was from Dean Dodson, so the admissions office in general.

There was no status page update, though.

Congrats! Anyone from Midwest?

An automated email was sent to you earlier today regarding your acceptance to Washington University Medical School. That email went out seven days earlier than planned. Oops!

Be assured that your acceptance is real and that I am very happy to offer you a position in the 2009 First Year Class. Your packet is being sent today, Friday, December 19, 2008, by overnight mail. You should receive it within the next couple of days.

Welcome to the 2009 entering class at Washington University School of Medicine.

W. Edwin Dodson, M.D.

Hmm. I wonder if it means waitlist/rejection if I didn't get the email having also interviewed in October.

So we're supposed to get it when? Early in the AM on Boxing Day?

i interviewed in late october also. i don't think they have notified all the accepted people yet so we can keep hope alive.

I wonder how the email accidentally went out to a subset of people who were accepted in this "batch". Did they send the email out in waves and catch it after the 1st wave? I wonder how many more people are going to get it in 7 days. Did anybody else get this premature email?

Although I'm happy to have been accepted, I wish I had more helpful info for you guys.

So confusing...

I wanna call and ask, so tempted, but I don't want to piss them off, they are probably getting so many calls as christmas approaches

Do we know if it was only a subset that received the email this morning? Maybe they screwed up and sent out all the acceptances already? Oh well, here's to hoping there will be more on the way! :xf:

Congrats, by the way.

I'll e-mail them for you guys.
They cant rescind my acceptance for asking questions 😛

I'm definitely hoping Shemarty only belonged to a VERY small subset 🙂 Maybe the scholarship subset? 🙂

i think we should hope that it was only sent to her and there are 100s of acceptances with all our names on them just waiting to bring christmas cheer to us.

and i wouldn't mind being in the scholarship subset😀

Dean Dodson,

Thank you very much for inviting me to join the WashU class! I am thrilled!

I have a question on behalf of my fellow interviewees. Did everybody who was accepted in this batch receive the premature email this morning? Or, did the office catch the mistake before the email was sent to everybody, and therefore only a subset of accepted students actually received the email?

I know many people who also interviewed at Wash U and did not receive an email this morning. They are wondering whether this means they have not been accepted yet, or if they still have a chance to receive the email in 7 days, when it was intended to be sent.

Thank you for your help,
Shemarty

I certainly hope so. Or maybe it's by alphabetical, or AMCAS ID, I guess we'll find out via Shemarty when WashU responds to the email.
