Yes, I was accepted today and I am out of state (OOS). I'm from North Carolina but have a lot of ties back to South Carolina.

I know I remember reading somewhere that MUSC gives like 2 full rides a year, besides that do many people get partial scholarships/grants or do most people have to pay the full price? (For instate people)

So, you have one post and create an account with the username MUSC and posted in the USC thread saying you are going to USC....😕

Not trying to be mean...just confused... did you mean MUSC and post in the wrong thread....?

This is the MUSC thread, unless I'm missing something?

I'm anxious for MUSC to tell people about scholarship money!

I got put on the wait list and was told that I would hear back by the end of March at the latest. Does anyone know how they reevaluate the applications? I have a solid 3.976 GPA, 32Q, and am from SC, and I am still on hold... any ideas?

Are you currently an SC resident?

Hey everyone! I know this is a little late but I am OOS and interviewed on 11/20, accepted 11/24! Can't wait to meet all my classmates!

So someone told me their friend was awarded the Dean's Award a few weeks ago. I guess that means the big recruitment scholarships have started being announced. Anyone else hear anything? There's at least 4-5 of these kind of scholarships that'd be awarded before April.

Good luck to all those on hold. I'm hoping for good news next week. Are there any other out-of-staters out there? Any idea how likely it is to go from OOS on-hold to accepted at the end of their interviews?

Im OOS and I seem to remember them saying I would hear by like April 2nd. So maybe Ill hear in a few days one way or another.

They told me we would be hearing back this week. No word on a specific day, though. Best of luck.

My son's applied for his second year w/30 MCAT, In-State, and 3.6 GPA.

For the folks that are getting in... would you mind sharing what it's taking you to get in?

I'm out-of-state so I don't think my stats would help you at all. Otherwise I'd help you out.

I think his stats are almost exactly average for MUSC

Does he have any clinical volunteering or shadowing experience?

seems like theres only OOS-ers out their on hold.

OOS hopeful here as well

I applied as out of state, but I know several instate people. Its not really black and white. I knew a guy who was in state with a 34/3.9 who go wait listed and didn't get in until July a couple years ago. I know a 27/3.9 guy that got in first adcom meeting after interviewing. A good friend of mine got rejected with a 27/3.9 a couple years ago. If you go back a couple pages some people outlined how an applicant is scored by the committee. They are very open with the admissions process. The big thing is to improve what he is lacking, which I'm sure he can meet with the dean after the cycle to figure out what this is. MUSC gives you a score boost for URM and growing up in areas of SC with physician shortages, and re-applicants, which has to be factored in when you look at the average.

Since I am out of state I'll tell you stuff other than gpa/mcat. I had 4 years of EMT experience, 1.5 years of research, a significant volunteer activity, shadowing, and several long term hobbies. PM if you would like more details.

What are your stats, do you have any close ties to SC, and when did you interview?

31R, ~3.7. Family is moving to SC (to pursue medicine in rural SC), have a house down there already. Interviewed 01/08

Significant clinical experience (>2000 hours)

Admitted Today OOS, 3.5, 36Q, graduated 2 years ago, lots of research and international medicine experience.
You dont know how good it feels to say that, my first acceptance in 2 years. Now I just have to see if I can afford it.

Congrats...I am OOS and got put on hold.

I know what you mean about tuition, MUSC will not let u be instate the 2,3,4 years. With living expenses its like a $300,000 investment over 4 years.

If anyone hears about the waitlist, would you mind posting?

Congratulations! I'm glad somebody got in. When did you interview?

I interviewed February 26th. They told me during my interview (I think they told all of us or maybe it was specifically me, I can't remember) that they would go over my application on April 6th. Sure enough, I got a letter postmarked April 7th, and an email on the on the 7th as well. I love the clarity from MUSC. If only it wasn't $330,000 over four years. And thats before the interest is even counted. Ouch.
Tough decisions coming up.

According to Joan, letters indicating final status were mailed out today. Did anyone happen to get a wait list email? I'm wondering if all letters are for rejection...

I have not received an email either, Maverick. I was wondering the same thing.

Got the rejection letter today. This after one of my interviewers said he would give me his highest recommendation, and another said "something is wrong" if I don't get in.🙄

Also rejected today. Ah well, a year off will be good for me.

Eulerian, are those stats real? If so, something IS wrong. How did you not get in? No clinical experience or something?

The stats are real. No clinical experience with humans. Plenty of it in vet. med.

PS. In case anybody is thinking about it, spare me the lecture about needing ECs. I've already heard it numerous times.

Congratulations to those who received an acceptance.

I made the in-state alternate list. Does anyone know anything about the size or movement of the alternate list?

I know that the out-of-state waitlist has 18 people on it. They were able to tell me my approximate position. Not sure about the in-state list, though.

Congratulations to those who received an acceptance.

I made the in-state alternate list. Does anyone know anything about the size or movement of the alternate list?

Did you find out via email or snail mail?

Has anyone been able to get any new/more information about the two waitlists? I wonder why the letter says the OOS waitlist won't move until June. (why not mid-late May?!)

The in-state alternate list letter says the same thing... "We do not anticipate anyone withdrawing from the class until mid to late June, so you should not expect to hear anything before this time."

I'm just guessing, but maybe they say that to reduce the number of people calling them on 16 May to ask about alternate list movement.

I don't have any other info. Where did you find out the size of the OOS alternate list? Has anyone heard the size of the in-state list?

There are 30 people on the in-state alternate list

Has anyone heard anything about scholarships to MUSC recently? I'm patiently waiting, but the deadline is fast approaching...

This is the related response I got when I inquired about this last week.

You should hear from the College of Medicine Scholarship Board by early next week about scholarships.

I'm assuming they are going to be mailed out.

Thanks. I was going to call tomorrow, but I'll just hold out a few more days and hope for good news. :xf:
