OHH..and does anyone know what the statistics for the accepted students from the Dec. 6th interviews was?

(just curious)

Didn't Ms. Mendoza say that they accepted 30 people? Don't quote me on that though 😛 Or do you mean their GPA?

I think the whole point was to prevent people worrying about how many seats are left and that they have similar chance of getting in as the previous interview cycle.

I specifically remembered that she said 30 have already been accepted, which leaves 90 seats up for grab. 🙂

I think she said ~30 seats have been filled. It might have been 40.

So here's my situation. I was invited for an interview for January 24th, however it conflicted with the USC interview so I asked to postponed. They told me they would contact me for the February interview.

However, concerning Western University requirements, I still have to take Human Anatomy and Human Physiology. I got into the Human Anatomy class at Community College (they do not offer it at UCSD), however I couldn't get into Human Physiology at CC. I can take it at UCSD next quarter Sring 09...however that would mean I would have to take Mam phys 2 + Mam phys lab (a 6 unit lab). I would be taking those 2 classes on top of cell biology and psychology which I need for pharmacy schools + major requirements. That pretty much means I would be taking 18 quarter units that quarter + a 4 unit semester course (human anatomy).

For me, I don't feel 4 semester units equates to 14 quarter units. I contacted WU to see if Mam phys 1 (which i've already taken) + mam phys lab would be enough to satisfy the req. They said it wasn't and that I also needed mam phys 2.

Sorry for the wall of text...but I guess i'm in a predicament. I really don't know if it's worth it to satisfy all these requirements (and slave myself) for my last quarter of my undergraduate years at UCSD.

What do you guys think? Think if I just take mam phys lab, (and have already taken mam phys 1), they will let me slide on the Human Physiology requirement?

Sorry again for the wall of text...

btw, here are my stats.

Above average GPA (especially in science, straight A's past 2 years)

Not a lot of pharmacy experience though. Basically pharmacy club + a 2 week job shadow of clinical pharmacist. Yeah I wish I had more...but what can I do now 🙁

The way I see it is, you already paid for the schools, survived the supplemental, and now you are one of the lucky few who got an interview. You got this far and I think it's worth it to finish up for the sake of being able to keep your options open... especially since you feel that your pharmacy experience and extracurriculars are somewhat lacking. I think you should just ask them if they'll let you slide on the Hum. Physio. requirement. But if I were you, I'd just take the rest of the requirements and just push yourself for that last quarter. Good luck!

I took Mamm Phys I with Fortes last winter quarter and opted not to take Mamm Phys lab. Some of my friends took the 6 unit lab and they said that they would have to spend time outside of class like staying overnight until 11 am the next day to work on some project or something like that. I heard they had access to the lab 24/7, so I thought that was a little too much for me. To fulfill the lab requirement, I had to take lecture and lab again at a CC back in Orange County last fall. Have you checked other CCs down there such as Mira Mesa, San Diego CC, and I believe there are 2 others I couldn't think of right now? I'm currently taking Human Anatomy at a CC too, since they don't offer it here. Cell Bio took a lot of my studying time too when I took it last spring.

I'm going to have to push my interview back another month to March 14, if they allow it. I'm scared it's going to hurt me. I hate that Western and USC have the same interview dates (the two middle dates anyways). Both are my top choices. There are things that I like both about both schools, which make it hard for me to pick which I would like better.

So they start sending out interview invitation. Is it by mail or email?

Luckily, Western is much more flexible with their interview dates and arrangements! I had to push mine back for a different reason, but they were so nice about it and called me immediately before the following round. That's what I love about Western...you really feel that they care about you. Don't worry, you made a good decision to take advantage of their flexibility. It would have probably hurt more to even ATTEMPT to postpone USC. hahaha. Hope it turns out well!

That's good to know. The person who called me was really nice about it the first time I had to postpone due to the PCAT being on the same day as the interview. Everything I hear about Western is always good things, such as them being such a nice and caring place, and I'd hate to lose an opportunity to check it out more closely. 🙂

Yeah, I have heard that Mam phys labs is one of the hardest classes in UCSD. (but...I have to take it for USC requirement since I didn't get into Physiology at CC).

I did go to Mesa and Miramar and try to "crash" the course, but there were no open spots for crashers.

Oh well, I called and email Western and in both responses they said I had to take Mam phys 2 (no exceptions)....so I think i'm giving up on Western this year.

I'm just praying I did well enough at my interviews at USC, UCSD, and UOP to at least get admission to one of those schools.

THanks for the input guys and GOOD LUCK!

PS: Western notified me about the interview by phone....3 days before the scheduled interview

hey fanatic. i interviewed on the same day you did. and with the same people! dr. jacob and ian, the class president. how cool! 🙂 they were super nice weren't they?

have you heard back from them yet? i'm very nervousss.

I also have the same notification through email stating "Waiver on recommendation evaluation form is missing signature" & "Please verify in writing the course work in progress that you will fulfill". UCSD goes through a directory for letters in the Career Center and I had called in Western before and asked them if I can just send it in like that because my Professor was out of town and they said it was fine. So, I'm not sure why they send me this. They sent an email Yesterday (Friday) and stated that I must finish these requested documentation by Feb 2 (Monday). It's such a short notice to contact my Professor.

Has anyone run into this situation? Thanks!

good luck to everyone applying at western. I decided I will be withdrawing my application. I just could not stand taking english 1 and 2 over. I had taken those courses previously at a UC and they were great courses, except they were pass/fail only. I had to sign up for eng 1 and 2 at the community college, and I really cannot do it. Its worse than my high school english courses. I cannot believe that western would think I need to complete those courses. can they not bend the rules ever? I could understand if it were a science or math course I was missing. Oh well...I've already been accepted a few places, and if western cannot see my potential, I do not want to give them my money.

That is true. I too wish some schools make a little adjustment on the pre-req cuz I think they are all different and sometimes ridiculous.
I'm happy for you that you've gotten acceptances already.
Goodluck with getting into the program of your choice.

pharmtechgirl26, some thing similar happened to me with Western and I withdrew my application as well. I find it frustrating that some schools are flexible on the prerequisites while others are not. There should be an automatic waiver for the english requirements if you have a B.S. or B.A. Some of their requirements I can only think they are there to weed poeple out. I am not sure what the purpose is otherwise.

how did you guys find out whether you met all the prerequisites? On Banweb? Did they mail you a letter or email saying that you lack some prerequsites? If so, I did not receive any letter so I assume I met all the prerequisites.

HEY!! no i have not heard back....im soo nervous too!! =)

i was wondering...did Dr. Jacob give you her business card?

yeah she did. i think she gave it to everyone. and i thought i was special! hahahah.

I agree. Even though I took 3 upper division English classes at UCLA for my bachelors, I now have to take a 6:30 am English 101 course at a CC to satisfy my English requirement with Western!

How quick is Western with email correspondence? I sent them an email explaining my interview situation (I can't interview this month as planned 🙁 ) Friday around Noon their time. It's easier to explain in email, but I will call them if I haven't heard anything yet but I don't want to be pushy.

i think you should call. i called the office soooo many times. Just remember that they are really nice and understanding! good luck with your situation =)

They sent me an email with a worksheet and instructions. So if you did not receive a letter it probably means you meet of the prerequisites. I would call them or email them just to make sure though.

I have not heard anything and I applid early. Western admissions sure is slow this year.

So before the interviews started, I understood that this year Western would be reviewing the files of all interviews prior along with the ones just interviewed. I heard that they would be making admitting decisions throughout the cycles. Did anyone hear this too? Do you think they will be doing this? Or are all the rest of the Dec 6 people who didn't get in yet going to have to wait until April like the letter says? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I believe their admitting people soon after they are interviewed because some people from here have already been accepted.

Yes, my question was regarding those who received the hold letter after the interview...Does anyone know if those files will be reviewed throughout or only at the end. The letter says April, but I was told in October that they would be admitting throughout the cycles (even those who were not initially accepted right after the interview).

from what i understood. if you got put on hold. they were going to review your file again at a later time or now because they just need to look over your file again for more review. and then they can at anytime take you off hold and put you on the alternate list or you can get accepted.

In regards to the question about "hold" letters. I spoke with the counselor and she told me that, they are going reevaluate the 'holds' after all the interviews are done. So, I guess, its like a wailist, not a alternate like they had told us at the orientation.

Like I have said in my previous posts, no one was currently rejected from teh Dec. 6th interviews, so, they are going to probably wait to see after they have interviewed all, and then bring up our files again. I was sad when I found this out, because I was sort of excited that they were going to possibly reevaluate our files throughout the cycle...but I guess they didn't do that after all....

But good luck to everyone! ITs a crazy process, and can't wait for it to come to an end with some good news for us all!!!!! 😀

have they called or emailed anyone acceptances from that jan 24th interview?

I think they should be calling in the next couple of days...(based on when the dec 6th acceptances were given)

and i believe they send an email....

if anyone gets an acceptance..please keep us posted of when you received it (time too =) )

I GOT MY ACCEPTANCE EMAIL!!!!!!! JUST RIGHT NOW...CHECK YOUR EMAIL!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍

were you at the jan 24 interview??? i have no email yet!!!!

i have no email either =(

i hope they are still sending them out throughout the day!

i kinda feel like calling them towards the end of the day!!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!! I got my acceptance today too through email!!!!! It was sent at 9:30 a.m. but I just now checked it! I'm ecstatic! 😀

BLAH..i hope that they are doin this one by one

me too!!!!!!!! wheres my email?! do they send waitlist and holds in email too??

Congrats everyone! I was placed on the hold list for Dec 6. interviews....🙁.

It's so discouraging when other candidates get in, while others still wait.

do you know if they send a mass email? like all at once

i really hate waiting.

Espada - when did they send your hold?

BLAH..i hope that they are doin this one by one

Don't worry and don't lose hope... just keep waiting! I believe they said two weeks, and it's only been about a week and a half. I know that's tough to hear right now. Heck, I'm still waiting on two holds! It's nice to finally hear some good news. Good luck to you guys still waiting and I hope for the best for you guys! :xf:

and also, to answer your question...It doesn't look like a mass email, since I only see my address. So perhaps it is an individual basis.

i sure hope so....

western is my number one

I got my hold letter postmarked on the 7th of January.

The actual hold letter was dated the 6th of January.

Feeling at the moment: 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁 (on hold)

Would love to feel : 😍🙂😳😀 (with acceptance)

Ahh Espada,

I know exactly how you feel. I'm dying with anticipation. It is really discouraging that we don't know what's going on with our Dec 6 file. I really hoped they were going to review our interview cycle with all the others like they had initially said, but I guess they are going to make us wait longer. Take care!

i have a feeling..not receiving an email...is not a good sign.

So I called the admissions office...i know..its a little early to do that.

but i know that there are a lottttt of ppl here waiting for their decision. They are still in the process of accepting ppl from the jan 24th interview. they said that they are not doing them all at once...and as they get files they will send out emails.

i actually talked to two ppl (my call was transferred) and both said that they are not done with their acceptance emails.
