Was he a resident of South Carolina? Are they reserved to only in-staters?
Thanks for the answers guys, MUSC is one of my top picks for next cycle.

I think some of them. Look at the site someone put up like 5 posts ago. It has requirements. Some of them you have to be from a certain county.

anyone hear anything about scholarships?

i really want to go hear but i dont know if i can turn down a more prestigious choice if MUSC isn't that much cheaper

hmm just an fyi, i called to see how many scholarships would be going out today, and i was told since the scholarship application isn't due until april and all interviews aren't even done, we wouldn't find out until mid april...

i didn't talk to mrs. wanda taylor this time, but that still is funny.

what do you guys think?

I think they're probably referring to the rest of the scholarships, not the recruitment ones. I would go with Mrs. Wanda Taylor's word on this one. Be patient.

any good news?

i was actually looking through older threads, and not a single person on SDN posted about receiving the big scholarships in the past two years. weird

SDN is not necessarily a representative sample. On top of that, I personally wouldn't post online if I got a scholarship, especially a full ride. That's sort of a personal accomplishment and many people that read this don't even get an interview. Also, I know of people that have gotten big scholarships and I think you mentioned your friend did too, so it does occur. No need to worry.

Yeah good point.

Anyways, good luck to everyone! I'm going to keep crossing my fingers for some more love from MUSC 🙂

ilton, i know you did say it was personal, but would you be willing to give a yes/no answer of whether or not you know anybody who has gotten one this cycle?

it would take a huge load off of my shoulder. either answer really. thanks so much 🙂

No, I meant last cycle. I have not heard anything either. If I hear something I'll PM you if you'd like. Good luck!

Does anyone remember hearing when the admissions committee was planning on meeting again?

I vaguely remember them saying at my interview that there were no interviews the last Friday in March, so they would meet one week earlier. That would be this Wednesday, march 23rd, I guess? It has been awhile since my interview, so I wanted to make sure I was remembering that correctly. Anyone know for sure?

I guess they are meeting on March 29.

Not really sure if it means anything, but it may be a good sign...

I got the following email today from MUSC financial aid:

"In order to finalize your request for financial aid, it is necessary that you provide the following:
We have received your FAFSA for the 2011-2012 year, but we do not
have a loan request on file. If you plan to apply for financial aid
please complete a loan request on our website:
http://academicdepartments.musc.edu/em/financialmanagement/formtypes1112.html
Your prompt assistance will ensure that there is not a delay in your
financial aid awards."

Does this mean I've been accepted? Or am I being too optimistic? Why else would they suggest I actually go through with the loan app?

I remember reading that financial aid emails may be sent to applicants, and not just to those accepted..

Do you remember where you read this? I'm absolutely not disputing you; I'm genuinely curious. I did the FAFSA back in January, but it just seems a bit much to actually apply for a loan at this point.

I believe it was on one of the fin aid papers given out during the interview day. You should call though to be sure. I was just letting you know that perhaps it may not be what you think. But good luck, I hope it is an acceptance.

Actually I just looked. Look on the Fin Aid papers that you received on interview day. The one with the lists of documents you should file. At the bottom it says and I quote:
"Since Financial aid materials may be e-mailed to applicants prior to acceptance into MUSC, in no way should the receipt of financial aid materials from the Office of Financial Aid Services be interpreted as an admissions offer into one of the six colleges of the University."

Ah, kind of hard to argue with that, innit? Guess I should have read that a bit more carefully back when I got it. Thanks.

Did anyone else get that loan email?

I've been accepted, but didn't get email and I want some money to feed myself next year 🙂

Yeah I got it. Accepted also. Have you completed a loan request?

hmm im accepted and didn't get anything

i filled out my fafas early this month... what is this about?

It's to make sure all you're stuff is filled out for fin aid awards, just call or email. I wouldn't be too worried.

Any current MUSC students or people who really know the school want to chime in on some highlights of MUSC that stand out to you (ECs, curriculum, etc.)? Thanks!!

The ad commitee met yesterday. Did anyone hear good news?

all on hold applicants now have to wait until next week to hear if they have made an alternate list.

from the email:
"Within the next few days, we will be ranking the alternate list with students who may have a chance of acceptance later in the summer.

If you are one of the students chosen for the alternate list, you will receive a notification regarding the change in your status by the middle of next week. If not, you will receive a notification that we no longer are able to consider your application for Fall 2011. "

Heard back today, I got denied. Now I'm just depending on the waitlist at USC. Good luck to everyone else!

sorry to hear this.
Hope you get in USC.
which 3rd you are in?

hey, I still haven't heard if I made the alternate list yet. The email said we would hear by mid-week, do you think this means I still have a shot? Or have all the selections for the alternate list been made?

Me too...just denied 🙁

Fingers crossed for USC.

were you guys notified via email?
good luck on USC!

I think the recruitment scholarships are, as the name implies, to recruit candidates who may have more options due to high stats (mcat/gpa). Sort of as an incentive. I'm not sure though, I'm just going by the name, the criteria, and the fact that they are awarded separately from the rest of the scholarships.
My buddy heard about the deans award in may. Maybe somebody dropped so that's why it was so late?
Hey guys, I was browsing my state schools' threads and saw questions about the big scholarships. You definitely don't interview for them, they just notify you about the award. I'm sure GPA/MCAT is a big part of it, but I got the feeling from last year's cycle that they definitely look at more than that.

I think they make the calls by early March, at least a girl I know found out by then last year. Interestingly, she applied early-decision and was already locked in to matriculating, so maybe they're less for recruitment and more about what applicants they think are most deserving (even if you had a Rhodes scholar winner, it'd be poor strategy to give them a 'recruitment' scholarship if they're already going to attend). The guy who found out in May must have been an alternate.

I got a really tiny scholarship, and found out about around May ~9th. Hope this helps!

I know people have been asking about scholarships, and I've been in the same boat. I was told yesterday that the deadline to apply was moved back to April 16th due to a late acceptance wave, and as a result, decisions have not been made yet. Ms. Graesch in the admissions department informed me that the scholarship committee will be meeting next week (the week after Easter), and students will be informed thereafter. Hope that clears some questions up.

Just wanted to extend a warm welcome and congratulations to all that were accepted in the class of 2015 with us at MUSC!!!

I look forward to meeting you all next year 👍🙂!

Has anyone received a Financial Aid Packet yet with info on awarded loans/scholarships/etc???

so... people should be hearing about scholarships pretty soon

im assuming that is

Nothing but loans for me. 🙁 Disappointing.
I hope someone on here was the recipient of some free aid!

yeah i never got a financial aid package either and my dad is pissed off at me lol

How did you get the info?

I got an email the other day notifying me of a scholarship, but no complete fin aid package yet. Make sure you guys have completed everything: loan requests, MPN, entrance counseling, and FAFSA.

Ah ok I didnt realize we had to do all that stuff before they would give us loans, I assumed you couldnt do the entrance counseling/promissory notes until they actually told us how much in loans they were offering. I guess I better do this in the next day or two.

I just withdrew my acceptance. Good luck to those on the waitlist.

Hi all. Has anyone heard anything about waitlist movement?

How about any word on friends/acquaintances/strangers being pulled from the waitlist? 🙂 Any news at all would be great!

I personally know one person who was accepted off the waitlist ~2-3 weeks ago. That's all I have heard of waitlist movement, however.
