This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
not sure how much truth there is to it, but apparently its cheaper to book on Wednesdays which would be two days ago. at least u bookin early. i kept putting it off and now my flight+hotel+car is $560+. but im also flying 2 days before the interview so i have that one day to get myself set.

niiiiice so all us SDN people can just say we know DbDan! 😀

Sorry for the confusion. I should have made it clear. I booked my flight last night and booked the hotel this morning. Thank you for reading my post SOOO carefully. And I appreciate your effort. 🙂

Edit: I'm just glad that I don't need to rent a car. (They have free shuttles to take me to the school and airport. 😛)

ladies, i'm going shoe shopping tomorrow and i was wondering what kind of shoes you wear to interviews. what's the normal heel height that people wear? 1 or 2 inches?

Ahh, I was wondering about the same thing!

THREE secondaries DONE and in their envelopes so far tonight! Woo Hoo! Three more in progress that I can submit online. Only two schools left to get secondaries for (unless I'm screened out). Yay for productivity! Someone needs to give me a cookie (or a drink!).:claps:

I'll have a cookie waiting for you on interview day haha

I only have some screened ones that I'm not gonna get, Drexel and Touro-NV. Drexel is apparently sending out based on last names (wtf lol) and Touro is SO slow this year.

I would suggest worrying about comfort more than heel height. That said, I have a couple different pair of pumps that are all about 2 inches. These are my favorite and are super comfortable, but I'm not sure what your budget is. http://www.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=312748&cm_mmc=Google_Feed-_-2-_-22-_-{keyword}&kw={keyword}

I am also pretty short so I need the height.

those shoes are a little similar to what i've been thinking about getting.

Yikes, I didn't even think about this until now. I was preoccupied with getting a suit. I still can't even decide on a color for that. Black is probably safest, but everyone will be wearing black so maybe something else??

I'll probably go with 2 inches. I don't know why - maybe I feel a little bit more "powerful" in higher heels. I don't know if that's quite the right word, but 1 inch heels make me feel frumpy when I'm dressed up. Otherwise I'm a flip flop girl.

Ahh, I was wondering about the same thing!

i also feel the need to wear to normal heels but there's no way i could wear them for several hrs at an interview. and i hear that there are usually campus tours too.

I am still waiting for UAB (one of two state MD schools) and MCG (which I think I've been screened out as I am no longer a resident of Georgia).

I'm going to try to go ahead and get the UAB essays done so I can be finished with med school essays and get back to manuscript and dissertation writing!

Yeah, I'm not sure that I'm buying into the whole Drexel/last name business. If that's the case then I got screened out, but I don't think was the case, so I'm going to say the last name business is just another wild incorrect theory concocted by secondary crazed SDNers. 😉

I'm waiting on Touro-NV as well... Sigh... And KCUMB... Drexel... and probably a few others that I can't remember right now. Still have a few in the inbox, but I've submitted 23 thus far!!! 🙂

You girls should definitely check out the Women's Interview Clothing thread if you haven't already done so. I found it very helpful.

i don't think y'all got screened out of drexel's, i got mine today...it seems more random than anything.

Got 17 done already, 4-5 that i'm straight up not completing, 2-3 that i'm sitting on/haven't completed yet, and 3 that i have yet to receive.

Congrats!!!! I still got 3 more secondaries to submit 🙁 and I cannot believe I've done 20 secondaries already!!!!!

Haha, I just got Drexel secondary this morning and my last name starts with .. (let's just say between A-E, lol)..It's super easy tho (no essays). You just have to re-type all your ECs 🙁

I'm still waiting on UCLA, UCI (since they haven't officially rejected me yet, but I know I'm probably screened out, lol), and SUNY-Downstate.

Well then I guess Drexel is just random considering I submitted AMCAS first day  Bastards! lol Touro-NV was pretty quick to turn around and offer me an interview last year once I was complete so I have faith that we'll still get early interviews there.

So far I've completed 19, I've got 4 I've been rejected from pre-secondary, 1 I withdrew and 4 left to hear from/get screened for. I am about 99% sure I'll be screened out of UCLA and UCF though.

what schools, were you prescreened from if you don't mind? the only one i got rejected pre-secondary was Wake Forest......I actually kinda wish more schools pre-screened. I know that I just threw cash away for some schools.

Wanna hear mine? UC Davis, Eastern Virginia, West Virginia, U of Nevada (This one is ******ed because they don't accept OOS students. Sigh, I should have checked)..

DbDan! Did you apply to Stanford? My friend told me her brother got an interview from Stanford with a low MCAT score (below 30, I'm guessing between 27-29), ok GPA, and average ECs 😱 but he didn't get in though. Still, I'm amazed how the whole process works..What are they really looking for?

UCI, UCD, VCU, EVMS... still waiting to get rejected from UCLA and UCF

No I didn't apply to Stanford, where did her brother go to school? Did he go to UG there? did he have a letter from a Stanford alum? I didn't even bother. I withdrew from USC because their stats were too high to warrant the 90 dollar secondary and the furd's stats are like 3.8/35 for accepted students. Stupid GPA...

Her brother went to UCI and I don't think he had a letter from a Stanford Alum. How weird! I know I don't stand a chance at USC but I applied anyway. I decided to give it a shot and see what happens. I know the USC stats are ridiculous, sigh. Stupid MCAT..🙁

🙁 Stupid stats DQing us. I have friends at SC med, I can compete with them I'm sure, they just dedicated themselves from day 1, I did not  I even did better on the MCAT than my buddy at UCSF  but he's smarter than me, i'll give him that.

Slowly plugging away at my secondaries, too. Just finished two more MD's. KCUMB is sitting on the backburner for now. Still need to complete Tulane and Loma Linda and then I have 5 more MD's I haven't yet heard back from. With DO's I only have KCUMB (secondary received), TUNCOM (not received), and NYCOM (not received) and I'm done. Submitted 20 so far, still have 10 to go.

Pretty stoked, by some stroke of luck I wrote a solid (I think...) page-long secondary to answer all the generic 'Why ___' MD secondaries so I can just churn those out for the rest of em.

Same here

My goal for this weekend is both Western campuses, both Midwestern's, both PCOM's, and maybe both ATSU's if I have the time. I can't wait...

Slow night on SDN

Just finished a secondary, off to bed. Good night/good morning guys/gals

ladies, i'm going shoe shopping tomorrow and i was wondering what kind of shoes you wear to interviews. what's the normal heel height that people wear? 1 or 2 inches?

I never wear heels. I am so anti heel that I am wearing black flats. That I bought from American Eagle. Hehe. Super comfortable though! Those heels Peachy posted look interesting though, but there will definitely be a tour that day, and I would rather wear flats then have bleeding feet or falling from a lack of balance in heels. Heels are torture devices.

Good job! You have earned 2 cookies so far this cycle! 😉 Yay!!! I have 4 secondaries left to receive, but a few of them will likely screen me out, like University of Arizona... They put my application on hold and said they will later decide to give me a secondary. I think that sounds like a rejection... But I don’t technically have any real rejections yet! It may be because my letters were not added to complete my file until a few weeks ago... I bet in a few weeks my inbox will be full of rejections... 🙁 Well, it only takes one acceptance I guess!

haha if only it was that easy, that'd be neat

haha yea. too bad there arent any hotels with build in discounts for students interviewing. im sure they get a lot of business around this time of year

Sorry for the confusion. I should have made it clear. I booked my flight last night and booked the hotel this morning. Thank you for reading my post SOOO carefully. And I appreciate your effort. 🙂

ive learned to read very very carefully ever since i started this whole application process

i was thinkin about shuttles also because i know some schools have those. but with my luck, somethings gonna happen thats gonna make me miss it

yea still no drexel, touro-nv, and kcumb for me. i havnt received anything yet saying ive been rejected pre-secondary so i guess ill just have to wait. ive been sending my DO secondaries out ASAP but not so much on my MDs. im still currently sitting on albany, temple. decided not to send in FIU because it looks like its heavy instate.

gonna spend this weekend doing some hardcore interview preparation!

WOW! Good for you. 👍

Thanks! These things are so painful... Not to mention expensive. I have watched my bank account deplete rapidly over the last few weeks...

Nice, man! Way to go on those secondaries as well. They are so painful...

I have about 3 sitting in the inbox that I don't think I'm going to complete, well... at least until I get my new MCAT score back. If it's good, I'll apply, if not, I just saved about 300-400 bucks. 🙂

Hmmmm, is your friends brother a URM and/or Disadvantaged?

Nice. I like your style. I pretty much did the same the same thing with secondaries, but, unfortunately, a lot of them just don't seem to fit my templates...

Man, after submitting Tulane I had this odd sense of hope. I would love to attend there. Keep it up! Only 10 left!

I bet in a few weeks my inbox will be full of rejections... 🙁 Well, it only takes one acceptance I guess!

Bah, come on now. I'm sure you'll get quite a few interviews and acceptances this year, but rejections are just a schools way of saying they aren't good enough for you. 😉

Nice, man. Yeah, I did pretty much the same thing. I sent most of my DO apps in first, then transitioned to MD. Temples secondary isn't that bad. it's just the $$$$.

I'm doing some interview prep as well. I just started reading, "The DO's: Osteopathic Medicine In America" by Norman Gevitz. It's actually a really interesting read and by the sounds of it, it's the best history on DO's out there. I would recommend you pick it up, unless you are pretty solid on your Why DO interview question, etc. Plus, it's a really nice history of medicine in general. Good stuff.

ive been hearing about that book these last couple of weeks and everyone says its a good read. def gonna check it out

Hmmmm, is your friends brother a URM and/or Disadvantaged?

He is Asian (Vietnamese, I don't think they are considered as disadvantaged). He applied twice though. First time he applied to MDs only and didn't get in anywhere. He applied to both MDs and DOs the second time and got into a couple of DO schools. He is in Western now.

naa dont think like that! im actually excited to see what the next couple of weeks will bring. i feel like everyday is gonna be a surprise everytime i check my mail box, email, and school internet update portals. just gonna sit back and enjoy it :corny:

@zetabetazeta: gl to u too!

Yeah, I guess the guy who wrote it is a medical historian who has worked at MD schools, but now works at Iowa College of Osteopathic Med. I just love reading about medical history, so this one is right up my alley. I think it is also good to realize where both MD's and DO's originated from. This can help to illustrate progress and at the same time, how far we have yet to go.

Ahhh, nice. Definitely not urm then, quite the opposite actually. 🙂

I'm glad to hear he got some acceptances. WesternU looks like a solid school.

Good luck at your interview! When is it again?

Haha. Yeah, who knows how they are really doing it, but you're knocking down the rest of them. Nice work! I wish I was a CA resident...

You would think that... until you ARE a California resident and realize you have no state MD schools that could even remotely be considered a safety regardless of your GPA/MCAT. I would kill for NY, Fl or Tx residency about now where they've got a bunch of schools and some will accept lower stats. If you don't have a 3.6+ and a 30+ you aren't getting into the damn UCs

eh, NY isn't that much better on that front.

Yeah, the UC's are tough, but, unfortunately, my state puts me at the largest disadvantage nationwide. People often assume CA is the most difficult, but you have quite a few state options. I have one option and it's a top 25 that is very very stats heavy. No stats = no acceptance... It's not much worse than CA though, but I would rather spend my college/grad days in CA anyway. 🙂

Has anybody else noticed that WVSOM's login page is on the fritz? I get an error message every time I try to login (and I have been able to before). Is that a harsh way of saying you're screened out? 🙂

Also, how do you know if you've been screened out? An email? The silent treatment? Can you call the school to see where you stand with them?
....haha, love this process!

Seriously! Sometimes I just feel so bad for myself (of being a CA resident), you know..🙁

Even if you do have a 3.6+ and a 30+ MCAT, your chance is still going to be slim. My friend's friend had a 3.8 and 36 MCAT, good ECs (really standard stuff, hospital volunteer, TAs, research..etc..), and didn't get into anywhere (he only applied to Californian Med schools though, ugh, I know, stupid 🙁)..I wish I were a TX resident, lol..cheap tuitions! But I cannot picture myself living in TX though..🙂

im the opposite, ive wanted to live a texas for a while now but was always put off from applying because of their policies. From undergrad to med school.

Here is some data for you on matriculation by state. Your friend sounds like an anomaly.

Btw, good luck at your LECOM interview! 🙂

Yeah, their tuition is insanely cheap and they have great programs... If we could only all be from Texas...

He only got one interview from UCLA and was waitlisted 🙁 (By the way, he is my friend's friend. I don't really know him. My friend told me about his story, lol).

Thank you! I hope it's not going to be a group interview. I prefer individual interviews! 😛 You will get interviews too..:luck:

Yeah, I get so excited to check my email, and when it's loading I imagine all of the possibilities… The update portals suck though… I try not to check them, and I wasn't really checking them until the AZCOM interview. If I had never checked, they would have never sent me an email about it! Crazy!!!

I wish I were a TX resident, lol..cheap tuitions! But I cannot picture myself living in TX though..🙂

Texas is the greatest state/country in the whole world… Haha. I :biglove: Texas.

I know, right!

Yes!! We even have an entirely separate medschool application! If that's not a sign of independence, I don't know what is.

 I considered applying to jobs in Texas so that I could establish residency over the next year to apply to schools for C/O 2016 as a Tx resident if I didn't get in this year. Sad.

Hi guys,
So I am receiving secondaries now from lots of DO schools, and I just looked at the application that aacomas sent to all the schools, and apparently, all my AP credits have shown up as "Non-science", and because I meant to use one of the AP classes towards my english requirement, it says that I am deficient in my english requirement by 2 units. Is there any way to send in my AP scores to aacomas or each school or is it too late? I really don't know what to do about this...

I was under the impression that AP credit didn't count toward med school pre-reqs. I could be wrong though.

I think whether a school accepts AP credits is based on a school by school policy. But, from what I can gather is that if you are planning to use AP credits towards pre-requisites they need to be listed on your official college transcript as credits applied towards your degree. Schools that accept the AP credits seem to also want you to have completed an equivalent to their requirements in upper division courses as well, but that is just a recommendation.

That's about all I can remember about that from the policies sheets on AP credits at most of the schools I've applied too. I haven't paid too much attention to it though, because the AP credit issue doesn't really apply to me. So, I would suggest reading up on policies at individual schools, checking to make sure AACOMAS didn't make a mistake, and call the schools to straighten out the issue, if there is one.

Good luck. 😉

AACOMAS very unliklely fix the issue. You have to call the schools.

Hi guys,
So I am receiving secondaries now from lots of DO schools, and I just looked at the application that aacomas sent to all the schools, and apparently, all my AP credits have shown up as "Non-science", and because I meant to use one of the AP classes towards my english requirement, it says that I am deficient in my english requirement by 2 units. Is there any way to send in my AP scores to aacomas or each school or is it too late? I really don't know what to do about this...

I had an issue with english requirements and called AACOMAS. The woman I spoke with was very nice and helpful. I was able to email them the course catalog showing that I had met the english requirement and it was fixed within minutes. A week (or two?) later, my PDF files were re-released/sent to schools with correction. Your PDF will have a big, bold REVISED header at the top, signaling to the schools that you've made changes.

Yes!! We even have an entirely separate medschool application! If that's not a sign of independence, I don't know what is.

i wanted to apply to the texas schools but man, i couldnt go through another separate application

Yeah, I get so excited to check my email, and when it’s loading I imagine all of the possibilities… The update portals suck though… I try not to check them, and I wasn’t really checking them until the AZCOM interview. If I had never checked, they would have never sent me an email about it! Crazy!!!

haha yea! i get my hopes up with those few moments that it takes to load. i hardly checked the portals in the beginning but ever since you posted about the azcom interview, i think everyone has started to check it out more often. hope to see a couple good updates these coming weeks :xf:

Got my first rejection from UC Davis yesterday. Pre-secondary, ouch 🙁
