Dreaming - I hear ya about the difficulty in getting a response. I tried emailing and the lady who replied wasn't helpful (basically ignored my question completely). Don't let it bother you. She's probably stressed and doesn't realize how her replies come across. And don't worry... Things will happen in due time. Or so another thread says. haha

Dreaming, I think they prioritize their in state applications first because most of the slots are reserved for IS. Good things come to those who wait!🙂

This has been one of the lengthier applications I have decided to tackle, and I really just have to type up the essay, and then I plan on submitting.

Seeing as it is primarily an in state school... what do you think my chances are of getting an interview here as an OOS student.

MCAT 28R, GPA 3.92, have a BSPS and a Pharm D

I do have a lot of physician/patient interaction... seeing as I worked about 2000 hrs my last year of pharmacy school in order to get enough hours for my license. I don't have any "volunteer" work, because all my time was spent getting hours toward my license. Will this hurt me? Is this something good to elaborate on in the "Anything else you want us to know?"

Just some input would be great. My brother goes to Bama, and will be applying to UAB next year. I've toured the center (unofficially) and really like it. Would be awesome to be able to go to school with my brother (in a year... and crossing the fingers the little booger gets in).

Thanks for the input all!

I know that accepted OOS applicants typically have much higher stats than IS applicants, but don't let that discourage you from applying. You have the credentials but you should focus on showing them that you really want to make the transition from pharm to med. You should probably ask this question in the "what are my chances" forum, as there are some really knowledgeable people over there. You might need to wait a year and gather some volunteering/strengthen your app. Good luck!

So I had my interview today and I had an absolute blast! The faculty were so congenial and really wanted to get to know you and make you comfortable. If you are worried about interviews, don't be, because most of the time it was just small talk about whatever the interviewers were interested in. They also gave you plenty of opportunities to lead the discussion and ask questions (of course there was also the mandatory "why medicine?"). Out of all of the interviewees there, I think everyone had a good time.

Has anyone gotten an interview invite lately?

I got an interview invitation on 9/22 for 12/9-12/10. I am an MSTP applicant though.

Wow, you must have some awesome stats! Congrats!

Thanks, but not really, that's why I was shocked to get one so soon. I have an average MCAT as far as UAB is concerned, but I have a 3.9 GPA. Being a finance major might have helped as well. Good luck to you guys though!

Congrats! What are your extracurricular activities like?

For those of you who live in the area, what is a reasonable time to book a flight out of Birmingham? The interview day ends at 2:30pm. Would I make it to a flight at 4:30pm? There are tons of flights that go out at that time but hardly any (and expensive ones) that are later.

I think you'd make it. Last year we didn't go all the way to 2:30, and the airport is only (at most) 20 minutes from UAB. It's small too so there probably won't be a long line for security. Good Luck!!

You will EASILY make it even if you leave at 3:15 or so (assuming 1 hr arrival pre-flight). Plus there is little traffic around that time. Also, the last event is just a tour of some of the facilities by med school students. I'm sure you can find all about that online anyway.

Thanks for the info! Any good (cheap) hotels close to the school that I should look into?

If you are planning on renting a car, I would suggest the La Quinta Inn in Homewood. It's right off the interstate and it's near a shopping mall with several places to eat.

If you're not renting a car, I would suggest the Doubletree. It's rather expensive, but it's only a few blocks from Volker Hall. It's also only a few blocks from 5 Points South which has good restaurants and nightlife.

Thanks Ditto! I was looking at your MDApps. It looks like we are applying to several of the same places. Good luck! Maybe I will see you around at some interviews!

Good Luck to you too!! When is your interview at UAB? I hope they show me some love before December. Are you from Alabama?

I have a question for those that were invited and/or accepted already. Did your status change to "Remains Under Consideration" or did it jump straight to "Interview Requested"

My interview is on the 28th. I am OOS, so I was extremely surprised when I got the Interview Invite. I am really excited about visiting this school!

Has anyone been accepted yet? I had my interview in late September, and I haven't heard anything. I know that's not very long, but it's torture to wait!!! I just wonder when the earliest is that we can hear? I thought somewhere around October 15, but that may not be the case...

I'm in the same boat. I interviewed early October, and they said that the earliest they could let anyone know was October 16. So I would think the absolute earliest you would hear from them would be tomorrow. I'll be obsessively checking my email every hour on the hour starting around 8:00 tomorrow. Good luck!

Can a third fit in that boat? I heard that AAMC pushed back their recommended date to tomorrow. I might leave my 8AM biochem class to check my email :meanie:. Supposedly people at the top of their spreadsheet will get notified first, but that's all I know..

Just got the acceptance email. OOS from Kentucky here!

Complete on 10/7. Received Interview Invite on 10/14 for 10/28 interview day. IS.

congrats! has anyone else heard back? i've been checking my email non-stop for the past few days but no news yet.

Same here. It has become a twitch over the last few days.

I know UAB only sends out acceptance letters in the mail once a month but does anyone know if they send out acceptance emails every week?

I got my acceptance at around 1:00 on Monday (IS). I heard rumors that some were given out as early as Friday, so they may update their list and notify more people every few days, so just keep watching and keep the faith. I totally sympathize with those waiting on an email...I've killed my cell phone battery a few times this year updating my inbox for schools.

I received the acceptance letter on Monday around noon! 👍 Also, 3 of my classmates were accepted as well on Monday. I think they may send out notifications once a month.

Congrats!! I wish I had some love from UAB.

Their admission process is fast. Interviewed yesterday, got my acceptance letter this afternoon!

Thanks Ditto1114, My interview is this Thursday and I just realized I needed to book accomodations.

Congratulations to those who are already accepted. That's amazing/awesome! It's a dream of mine to join the ranks of UASOM 2015 with ya'll!

IS, complete around 10/12, interview invite something like 10/18, Avg MCAT, decent GPA, decent ECs. I'll let you guys know how the interview goes.

No problem! Good luck on your interview!

I wish UASOM didn't wait till the end of the cycle to interview reapps it's really depressing.

Nothing here either. Although I checked my status online and it says that I am still under consideration. I guess that means I was not above the line to get accepted right away. Bummer. But I still have hopes to hear from UAB later in the application cycle.

Did you status go from "campus choices received" to "under consideration"? Because mine has stayed steadfast at campus choices received and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be expecting a change in that status before I hear about an acceptance or a rejection.

Mine say campus choices received. They could just be waiting a few weeks to tell us, if at all.

Yeah. Mine went from interview complete to campus choices received. Guess they lied about sending it out on Friday. Hopefully, they will do it first thing in the morning!

Mine started as interview complete, under consideration. I didn't submit my campus choice until after I saw that. So NOW it says campus choice received.
