Per tracker page, lowest GPA for interview offers this year is 3.68 IS and 3.28 OOS. Average GPA is 3.86 IS / 3.89 OOS. That is very high.

http://med.umich.edu/medschool/admissions/2012 Tracker.pptx

I would imagine it will go down as non-auto invites dilute the early auto-interview invites stats as we get later in the interview cycle (remember there are still 300+ invites to be given out I think). But maybe it won't go down that much considering last year's accepted median GPA was 3.84 (according to MSAR).

There are ~350 more invites for OOS, so that's relatively good news!

We're closing in on the half-way mark and the average mcat for OOS interview invites is over 38. 😱😱😱

...Michigan taking a play from WUSTL's playbook?😛

Yes, they have a metric that "MCAT avg" is 12.94 for the OOS pool, but what does that mean? I don't think that translates into an combined avg score of 38.82 per applicant.

I'm pretty sure that means 38.82 average MCAT.

MSAR data gives us avg MCAT scores separate and composite, they aren't necessarily additive...though I will admit that even if you tweak it a point or two, that's still a really intimidating total average to consider.

And I take it back. The MSAR data is median, not average. my bad. ugh. okay, I agree with Frazier...that's a crazy number. I just know a few people that go to Mich, and they definitely did not have MCAT scores that high, but some really well-rounded apps/outstanding ECs. I was hoping I could fall in that pool... maybe not so much. =(

Good point. Either way, I'm feeling a bit inadequate at this point in the process. 😛

That average should come down quite a bit as the season progresses. I haven't given up hope yet!

Lastly, to revisit our discussion from a few hours ago, just to put things in further perspective - that aforementioned 38.xx composite MCAT average [for OOS invites] thus far equates to having the average OOS invitee scoring slightly above the 99th percentile on the test.
Wow. That has to be at least on par with WashU.

Just got an interview invite via status page!!!

336 / 725 interview invites. About to reach the halfway mark.

I am a Michigan resident and I am sure there are plenty of competent applicants in the state. That being said, an average mcat score in the 99th percentile for in state interviews is just crazy.

Admitting just 55% from that! 🙁

I don't think 35.7 (the average of in-state interviews) is 99%ile. 38.4 (out of state average) I think is definitely 99%ile

Edit: That being said....it's still damn high

For those with the Application Screening Complete message, any luck with update letters? It's a long shot, but I've had some significant activities added since the summer and wondering if the online update is the best way to go.

Good luck to all with interviews...agree the stats this year are crazy!

Michigan twitter just responded to us:
"SDN: Stats are high but applicants are strong-strongest ever??Remember we still have a long way to go and many interviews still to offer!!"

Seems to be saying to you guys not to freak out. Still plenty of time and interviews left to go around.

:hello: to the admissions committee

lol yea, it's pretty intense.

*sits back and wait for Michigan twitter update responding to our fright*

Frazier you saw that coming a mile away haha

someone should probably make a "these stats are too damn high" meme picture.

man... i guess there's no hope for me. i'm OOS and my numbers aren't even at to the IS numbers. *sigh* but i LOVE you michigan!

alrighty then, if you're going to make me do my own work.

Anyone who has already interviewed: Did you stay with a student host? and how was it?

Question guys: How do you know that your application is complete? I am looking at my status page and it still says in there "AMCAS Application Received." I am pretty sure all of my letters were uploaded in AMCAS. Did you receive an email saying you are complete? I am trying to email the admissions office and I haven't heard a response yet.

I have been under review for too long!

Time to update admission of what I have been doing since submitting my application!

Anyone else interviewing 11/11/11 ? I'm thinkin' that must be good luck!! Sure hope so, U of M is definitely my number 1.

"We'll be reducing number of interview slots next week-greatest impact on NR applicants. Details in tracker update late next week."

Oh, crap. I'm OOS!

Hi - Just submitted my secondary....

Does anyone know what the cut off is to get the secondary for OOS? What % of secondary applicants get to the interview stage?

I'm just wondering how excited I should get....

Regarding secondary cut-offs:

"Non-Residents will receive a Secondary Application upon receipt of their verified AMCAS application PROVIDED they have achieved a minimum 3.2 science GPA AND a minimum 24 MCAT." Source

As for what % of secondary applicants get to the interview stage:

Overall, for all OOS applicants last year, 4,142 applied and 516 got interviews (about 12.5%) (according to MSAR). But since you're applying fairly late, I imagine your chances are slimmer. I can't say that for sure, but if you check last year's twitter only about 15 or something percent of acceptances went to people who applied in September or October. I don't know what percent of applicants applied in September or October. I don't know what that means for interviews, but always remember population statistics do not take into account your individual story.

Your excitement at this point isn't going to affect anything. My advice is to sit back, get comfortable, and try not to worry about it too much. The app is in. Go have a beer with some friends.

Got my interview last Friday, this school is my number one. Ann Arbor is an amazing place to be learning for undergrad and grad school.

Have many people had luck in finding a student host here?

I have an interview in a few weeks, and I've been trying to secure a student host but every time I check the Host Availability page it says there are none available. I suppose its likely due to having larger interview groups per day, hopefully I'll get lucky.

There isn't another way to sign up for a host that I'm missing is there?

Thanks!

I checked for a couple weeks before my interview in August and not a single host every showed up.

There are numerous female host still available for my interview day. Perhaps they have more females volunteer for this than males ?

However, I'm predicting that the 37.98 will fall down to 35.xx range by end of the cycle - make it a more reasonable dream for us.

If you're right, which I think you are, UMich's class of 2016 will have a substantially higher average MCAT than 2015 (35.16) assuming their early interviewees matriculate. It seems that UMich has decided they'd like to compete stats-wise with the likes of WashU.

I can't tell whether I am nervous or excited for Friday at midnight... :scared:

At least I have 4 exams this week to keep me busy.

I am not much of a math person but the extra data sheet have 394 persons offered II while the status said 392. Last I look Standord still spell Stanford.🙂

They're probably spending that extra proof-reading time on file-review and making sure the right people get in...fine by me👍

looking at the admissions tracker is very interesting.

Do people actually apply with 9-11 MCAT?

I just got a survey from admissions about their smartphone app.
I was so excited it was an interview invite!
Oh well, hopefully next time.
