Will Columbia accept a letter of recommendation post-interview? I'm sending in my update in the coming days and one of my supervisors would like to send in an additional rec. he's my boss at a job I've gotten since the interview. If so, how would he submit it?

Yep go right ahead.

Is anyone having trouble accessing the secondary system? I think their servers might be down, but am not entirely sure...

To those who received a letter from Dr. Nicholas:
Did anyone notice that the title of the PDF file is called "Well Cornell"? (Try opening it in Google docs) Does this mean anything? In previous years, the document with the same title used to be a rejection letter.

How accurate is this? So in past years EVERYONE who was accepted did not have "Well Cornell" in the title? And what do you mean by rejection letter, do you mean being put on the waitlist?

You guys are reading WAYYYY too much into it. Everyone needs to relax a bit

Can someone who has interviewed provide details on what time/location we need to be there? My interview is tomorrow and the website is down. Thanks in advance.

Breakfast at 8ish, interviews start around 9, meeting with the dean around 11, lunch around 12, tour around 1, interviews resume around 2:15.

Hey guys.

I've been lurking around on the forums for a while and finally decided to register and join the conversation. You guys seem like a great bunch, and I look forward to freaking out with you all come late February/early March!

I also looked up the properties of my Dr. Nicholas letter, and it too says Well Cornell. Hopefully it's a generic title. Like Narie, my letter came with a bit of personalization, didn't ask for an update, and at the end it says "from a purely personal point of view may I say that it would give me real pleasure to have you with us." I'm trying not to read too much into it... Does anyone else's say this?

Also, I want to send in an update about my last semester. I know the letter doesn't ask for an update, but I want to show them that I'm still interested in them. The "upload document" on the application page is pretty intimidating. What are some examples of updates people have sent in? I'm already planning to send in an updated transcript, but I don't know how to go about writing about some new extracurriculars I've done.

The pdf file name was wangers5270.pdf (insert real name here) and the title of my document in the PDf itself says "Weill Cornell" Not Well, Weill
weilllll that's odd.

Maybe they want us all to go to Cornell

Mine doesn't say that, and mine reads very much like yours. So, I don't think it means anything.

Anyone still getting interview invites? Complete in October and still have my fingers crossed...

Thanks and Happy New Year everyone!

Welcome!
Mine is practically the same as yours. Same exact last sentence. There was a middle section, though, that just asked about one of my interests and if I'm continuing it, so I'm updating based on that! My advise, keep it short and sweet, while giving them the necessary updated info. 🙂 Good luck!

How long after your interviews you received your letters from Dr. Nicholas? Did everyone get one of these letters? I interviewed right before the holidays (Dec 18th), but I haven't gotten a letter yet. Getting anxious.

I interviewed in the fall and never got a letter. I'm sure it's nothing to be anxious about!

any current P&S student know if they're interviewing fewer students than last year? or is it still around 1000+? thanks! 😍

Mmmcdowe had said they are still interviewing 1000+ a month or so back

Did you send a thank you letter? My letter mentioned my thank you note and my interviewer enjoying meeting with me...

Yes, I submitted a thank you note through their system. All I got in response was a note from the admissions email address saying that the note had been added to my application.

any ideas on what we could do to impress the committee so late in the game?

or do you think theyve already put certain applications in a "reject", never to revisit them even in this last month before decisions go out

I think you could always send them an update about what you've been doing and continue to show your interest. 🙂 good luck!

Is there a certain time (e.g. every second and fourth Monday of the month) that the admissions committee meets to discuss potential applicants for interviews??

Yes, there are scheduled meetings, but there is no way to use that to your advantage. They are fairly frequent and that's when they review all updates received I'd imagine  If you have something to send now is the time to do it.

Thanks mmmcdowe! Just submitted!

They're probably done handing out interview dates right?

When I called yesterday, the man said they don't do status updates. Also, he said they will be sending interview invites through the end of January.

To clarify to readers, this means they won't update you on your status on the phone (especially when decisions are approaching), not that they won't accept status updates from you.

Does anybody know how many Columbia-Bassett acceptances have gone out?

That program is an absolute dream... literally, last night I dreamed I got in and got so excited I woke myself up, haha.

Adding on to that, does anyone know how many regular M.D. interviews have gone out/are left to give out. It seems like they're basically done handing them out.

Wonder when the next (or last) wave is going out.

People. Stop philosophizing about the "Well Cornell" thing. Any hospital/CUMC template made by CUIR-Support has the title "Well Cornell". Coming from someone who works here.

Yep go right ahead.
Hi mmmcdowe,

I'm an occasional reader but this is my first post. I have an interview coming up and had a similar question to FijiGNR in that I have a professor who would like to submit an additional LOR on my behalf. My question is: should I ask the professor to personalize it (i.e. to Columbia) and somehow send it to Columbia directly (if there is any way to do this while ensuring that I have not read it)? Alternatively, should I ask the professor to submit it thru AMCAS and then simply resubmit the primary app? Either way, could you explain the procedure for doing so?

Thanks so much!

You can have him mail it and indicate it is regarding your application but uploading it yourself to the Columbia website seems to be the fashion. I really don't think they care at this point, but you can call and check.

I feel you. It seems like SDN has been quiet with interview invites, so either they're not giving out too many at this stage or they're giving them out to nonSDNers. 😕

I feel the same way. I emailed them an update yesterday and they acknowledged it today...but hopes of an invite are not too high...

Can anybody interviewed for the 3-year PhD to MD/PhD share some experience, e.g. interview schedule and style? I called the office and they didn't know when I could finish my interviews (seems more than one interview for this program). My fight is ~ 6pm (the last one), I am a little worried whether I can go back on the same day.

Thanks!!

Does Columbia do pre-interview rejections as they go or do they wait until March?

They wait until March. But just as a follow up question: does anyone know if all of the II's have been given out already?

Hey guys, I have a question about looking for taxi after interview. Do I need to book it online or it is easy to find a yellow cab just outside the hospital? Thanks.

Anyone else having problems with the website? I can't seem to get in...and trying not to read too much into it 🙂

I had issues last night, logged on just fine earlier today, and am having problems again tonight. I wouldn't read into it.

Oh good, I can stop being neurotic for a minute. Glad it's not just me!
