Los Prados is veryyyyyyy nice! It may be a little pricey, though. Like 1,100$ for 2 rooms or something like that.

You can also go in clasificadosonline.com to look for housing/cars and a few other things!

Does any one know when the LCME will next be visiting San Juan Bautista? I looked on the LCME website and they said their next site visit would be 2013/2014 but didn't give a more specific date. Also, the person who I spoke to at the LCME couldn't give any more info than what was on the site. Does that mean SJB will still be on probation at the start of the 2013/2014 academic year? This worries me.

Yes - They will be on probation at the start of the year. They have been since they initially got the accreditation taken away and then regained. The loss of their accreditation was devastating (they lost a TON of students) so I would be shocked if they're not doing everything in their power to maintain it. University of Texas San Antonio is also on Probation pending review (and with no set date), Marshall University is also on probation with the same situation as San Antonio, and Upstate Medical University in New York is on probation expecting an interim visit this year. This probation has made SJB another school - and wouldn't be worried.

Thanks, and good points, but I think that SJB is different from the others you mentioned in that SJB has lost its accreditation in the past.

I agree with ReeseC. Although the probation status does worry me a little, I'm more than confident that they'll have a full accreditation after their next visit. Think about it, the LCME withdrawal was one of the scariest thing that happen to SJB, I sincerely doubt they'll ever let that happen again. The staff is much more aware and are motivated now more than ever to never let that happen again. If anything, I feel as if SJB became a better school because of the snafu with the LCME. The LCME noted all their flaws and SJB will rectify them and will be much more wary about them.

It's like taking your English paper to get edited. After the editor finished his/her job, your paper will be a lot better after you take out all the misspelled words and run-on sentences.

My fam and I live in Turabo Clusters a couple blocks from Los Prados....It's not as nice, but much cheaper.

From what they've told us, SJB won't be re-visited by the LCME for review until next year (2014) at the earliest.

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the interview day went. What was it like? and how long did it last? Need to book a return flight and want to make sure I have enough time to make it to the airport! Thanks 🙂

Congrats on your interview invite. My interview was at 2pm, I arrived an hour early though, and I ended up leaving at around 4pm. So, you're looking at around a 2 hour time period. If you need to book a return flight I would suggest you chose one that leaves 4 hours from the time you leave SJB. Just in case you get stuck in traffic or other miscellaneous interruptions.

So! After a really long wait, I finally got through to Jaymi and was told that I've been placed on the waiting list.

Both of the faculty members that interviewed us told us that next visit will happen sometime this summer.

So I just received the official 2013-2014 academic calendar. I am shocked! May 23-24 is registration day but classes don't start until June 10th. Are we suppose to appear in person to register?

We should create a FB page for the class of 2017...

I was told we would have to be there in person for the registration; there are forms you have to sign so it can't be done any other way.

I believe some other user said he was going to make a FB page, don't know if he ever got around to actually doing it.

I can't believe how early these PR schools start. Is there any reason?

In other news... They received the letter from my university explaining my biology credits two weeks ago. Now I'm waiting to hear back. I've tried calling but no answer yet. I want to know so I can hurry up and make a decision. Haha

I was surprised about that too. I thought they started in August, or July the earliest, never did I think they'll start in June.

Try calling very early in the morning, they tend to pick up the phone then. Good luck!

For people who have been accepted, what are the housing options in the area?

I see:
Turabo Clusters
Los Prados

Sorry, I misspoke. You are correct: SJB will be "visited" sometime this summer. But the "question" of accreditation won't be revisited by the LCME until next year--assuming they follow their own standard operating procedure. Once they have the site visit, the visiting committee has 30 days to compile their report, which they submit to the school for review and annotation. Once they receive the report, the school has 30 days to compile their response to the report, and make any suggestions, notations, or attach any addenda that they feel might be necessary. Then, the committee that receive's SJB's response has 30 days to compile their response to SJB's response, and make any corrections or changes to the final report submitted to the LCME that they deem necessary, as a result.

Then, the report is submitted to the LCME's accreditation committee, which will review the report and make a decision. However, the LCME accreditation committee only meets twice a year--and by the time that all this procedural stuff is completed, the next scheduled meeting for accreditation won't be until next year (2014).

That's my understanding, at any rate.

Yes, the list the school sent us was not very useful... There are other options such as Los Pinos and Vista Real. Both nice, safe and within budget.

I'm still having General Biology II issues and it's looking like they may not be resolved after all, and now the school is on Spring Break so the earliest response I could get would be April 1st. >.>

If it doesn't work out with SJB, I'm between UCC and Ponce. I feel like I should choose Ponce. But I don't want to live in Ponce. hahaha

It's so weird that UCC and Ponce accepted you with that class and SJB is being more difficult. :/ hope it all resolves itself for you soon!

what's wrong with living in ponce vs. bayamon or caguas?

Have you visited PR?

Bayamon is the least preferred location by far. I have family in Bayamon and hate going there. Look up the crime statistics. Ponce is far and away the best town. Nicer areas in San Juan will cost a bit of money. I would recommend Ponce first, second Caguas and Bayamon absolutely last.

I prefer living nearer to larger cities. Ponce seemed nice, but small. If SJB doesn't work out, it's probably where I'll go, but it won't be because of where it is on the Island.

I actually heard, from peers and PR natives themselves, that Caguas is the safest city out of the three. I heard Bayamon is extremely dangerous and Ponce is second to that. Maybe the areas around where the schools are at aren't, but from what I've been told, Caguas seems to be the safest.

ReeseC, have you tried calling early in the morning? Jaymi has been very receptive to my phone calls and emails; can't imagine why she wouldn't be answering you. If SJB doesn't work out, then you should definitely go to Ponce. It is no doubt the better of the 3 schools that mainlanders could apply too. I personally did not like the school and wouldn't go there, however, I'm not going to denied that they are second best, following UPR.

SJB 2012 match rate was 83% for those who are wondering. I don't know whether that value is good, okay, or bad. I'm trying to get last year USMLE pass, but haven't gotten an answer yet.

I understand, but you have to choose wisely and should not only take into account the city, but also the fact that it is the best medschool in PR, and are in this order: 1. UPR, 2. Ponce school of medicine 3. UCC 4.SJB. If I got accepted in UCC and SJB, I prefer to go to the best, UCC; or between Ponce and SJB, also I would choose ponce.

On what information are you basing your statement?

md789, I've actually heard that order of ranking before as well. Although I do agree that UPR and Ponce should be numbers 1 and 2, respectively, I do believe SJB is actually put as the lowest of the PR medical schools because of what happen to their accreditation back in 2011. Unfortunately, SJB will be subjected to some negative bias until it regains a reputable reputation. Even then, I still believe that the school will automatically be put them at the bottom of the list because that's all people will remember the school by. You know what they say, you only remember the bad, never the good, in people.
