2013-2014 San Juan Bautista School of Medicine

Hey Emmett BROWN,

What the admission committee does is look at the files from all the people they interview from the list the dates Jaymi sent you. For example, if the dates were February 1st, 3rd, and 7th, all the people who interview that day will be evaluated for seats. The person who interview the first doesn't have the upper hand then the person who interview the 7th.

However, if somebody who interviewed in November has a better chance of getting in because more seats are available/rolling admission.

Hope this helps!
Ok that makes sense, thank you that helped a lot.

From what i have read about the previous years it looks like tomorrow they will start to give out admissions. I guess we'll see. When did you interview?

I interviewed in December. have you or anyone found a match list? A bit curious to see one. Good luck!

Did anyone received an all document e-mail confirmation before ii's? I haven't received nothing, yet I have seen people with lower scores getting interviews. Just a concern.

They called me for the ii.

Jaymi said third week of January and the acceptance or rejection would be sent through email.

I just talked to Jaymi. The admissions comittee starts to meet the first week of February so more or less the first decisions will be handed out mid february.

Anyone have any suggestions of where would be the place to stay, I know there is only one hotel by the med school but i was wondering if anyone stayed somewhere cheaper a few miles out and recommends doing the same, Im up for anyone's suggestions.

Is this for the people that interviewed from Nov to December???

I talked to Jaymi today. She said the evaluation process has been delayed again. She wasnt sure when the admissions comittee would meet to review the first batch. So, more waiting.. :(

I spoke to a current med student at SJB, she told me school was having a visit from LCME this week so she told me to just be patient.

When were you complete?

No I only applied to Ponce and SJB.
ok... Why did not you apply to UCC? I said that because I know someone who got iis at both UCC and SJB with 3.3 c/sGPA and 23 MCAT. She did not apply to PSM because she told me they are not out of state friendly.

I cant remember the exact reason for not applying

Sorry I cant remember the exact reasons for not applying to UCC. I just remeber the reason was valid when I made the decision.

I was complete august as well and I got interviewed november 6. But im in state so I dont know if that makes a difference. And I got lower stats than you

Also you might be in the lower range for mcat scores for out of state applicants. That could be the reason. U should eventually get an ii though.

What type of questions they asked on the interview?

They asked about hobbies, shadowing, do u consider yourself a leader, what was the last book you read, describe your best three qualities, an abortion question, whats your worst quality, do you play an instrument.

I was not asked the typical why medicine question. ..

It was a group interview.

Thanks for your help.

This waiting is terrible..
It really is horrible, a little ridiculous. . Do you talk to Jaime over the phone or by email? I emailed her a couple of weeks ago but she never got back to me. According to MSAR the should have started to give out admissions in January, i cant imagine it being that much longer, hopefully in the next week or so.

I call jaime once a week. She already recognizes my voice lol

Yes. U have to call her either at 8:30 am or at 4. Puerto rico time of course.

Anytime between those hours she is kinda difficult to reach.

I guess I understood it wrong. I thought it said that the review went well?

It's weird, because the guy posted asking for advice, shares the emails - which I thought were positive and optimistic, but then slams SJB not long after. It's really bizarre.

As a matter of fact, I am not from PR, I also came from the mainland. In addition, SJB has the highest 1st time passing rate for USMLE step 1 of all PR med schools (98%). Again, only school with NBME examinations.

Hi there! This here is an extremely appealing plus for the school...One of the drawing factors for me, for sure. Is there a match list available to see? I would imagine that these great scores translate into a wide freedom of residency choices and locations....

I called jaymi. The comittee meets this week and acceptances should start sending out next week :)

I interviewed last week and this wait is already driving me crazy. This school is my first choice by far, hope we can all get good news.

@cocoasmackers19

The 30% was probably before they started making changes, it appears in the last two years they've improved a lot, at my interview they said 94% though according to this there are still students who haven't taken the test.

On a side note:
Loved the school, I feel out of all the schools it'll prepare me the best. I really want to be taking the NBME tests instead of prof made exams. I liked how they organized their curricula and I like how organized everything about them was. Hope I get in.

It's a tremendous improvement; whatever the percentage, surely the test prep with NBME tests has been working to produce higher numbers over the past couple years. I agree, hands down it is the best preparation for step one. This and various other factors make SJB my top choice.... great education, community, overall feel, etc!

They are gonna start reviewing november/december interviewed candidates but not necessarily in the order they interviewed. Thats what jaymi told me. Im so anxious but she told me that everyone who interviewed those two months should receive a decision in February.
