Is anyone else waiting on the checkmark for the payment verification? The PayPal said the submission failed, but it went through according to my bank. Anyone else experiencing something like this?

I submitted my payment and had no problem with PayPal, but I am still waiting on the checkmark for the payment verification.

Thanks for replying! I feel better - I'll just keep my eye out.

should these essays not be related to our primary app at all?

in regards to essay #1: in my primary apps i included two major hobbies of mine and wrote about them a little.i have a couple of other ideas i could write about but i already covered them in my applications as well.

for essay #2, i have a unique background in the sense of my non traditional major and coursework, but i emphasized this quite a bit in my personal statement already.

should i not talk about either of these for the essays? i'm not sure if we can have any overlap or not. i feel like my ideas are kind of repetitive

Both of mine sort of related to my field of study, but I put different twists on them from what I had in my primary. Spin it, man.

Secondary submitted! We'll see how this goes. Best of luck to all of us OOS-ers (and IS-ers, of course, hahah)

Same here! But I made a mistake in one of the essays (completely forgot a verb) .. My small chance has shrunk even more. Sigh ... 🙁

complete! at least, everything is in, anyway. it doesn't actually say complete.

Just to clarify/if anyone knows, are the interview offers to be made next week only for those who have already submitted their secondaries? Or are they based off the primary only?

Interviews won't be given unless they have all your materials, so yes, secondaries included. Now, idk if they are giving out interview offers next week...that is a little early I would think

They announced it on their Twitter feed on Tuesday:
"Interviews will begin on September 13 and conclude March 14. We plan to interview 600 candidates. 1st offer will be made next week!"

The early schedule is also in line with their past timeline (first II last year was on 7/5 for IS, 7/10 for OOS)

I believe that last year they gave out interview invites without requiring secondary essays to be submitted (I think the secondary essays were required like 2 weeks prior to the interview, or something along those lines), but things might be different this year perhaps?

Anyone know if Michigan's secondary lets you go over by a few characters?

Anyone know if Michigan's secondary lets you go over by a few characters?

Unfortunately not 🙁 In fact, when I copy-pasted from Word, I mysteriously gained a few characters compared to what the word count in Word had told me. Not sure if that's happened only to me, but I'd aim for 5-10 characters under the limit.

I also refuse to copy paste from anywhere. I usually print out my essays and type everything in.

This happened on one of my secondaries too. And after the struggle to cut down the first time, 😛.

Applicant page down for me ("The service you are requesting is unavailable.") Meep meep.

same here 😡

confident sisko says that um adcom was dumbfounded by the awesomeness of my application, which then took the system down. insecure sisko says it took it down because it sucked that bad.

I've had a wild run of a week too and was just about the finally submit my essays, all polished and ready to go... Here's to hoping it's very temporary, 😛.

Honestly though, I wonder if this has something to do with them running through the first batch of secondaries and determining some interviews?

I accessed and submitted my U Michigan secondary before I received an email from them. That's not a problem, right? 😕

EDIT: In retrospect, it seems presumptuous..... 🙁 This is all just a misunderstanding

EDIT2: All seems to be fine. I don't think it's a problem at all. 🙂

Is anyone's status complete yet? I have everything checked but my status is still "AMCAS Application Received".

Same here. I submitted/paid my fee on the 3rd and had all my letters in by the 2nd and I still am not complete. Hmm, although now that I think about it, I'm probably not complete because they didn't get to my stuff before the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Same here good luck to all of us!

got an email from them saying my status was updated. heart pounding, blood rushing to my head, i numbly went to my status page, eerily reminiscent of checking my mcat score. then i saw the above status that i quoted this morning.

Per their twitter:

Interview offers this year will be made at 10:10 a.m. on Tuesdays (10-10 Tuesdays) and 3:33 p.m.Thursdays (333 Thursdays) starting Thursday!

I love the corniness

But I guess I'll know what I'll be doing at those times now. 😛

My heart stopped as well when I got that status email. I'm very surprised at how fast rolling admissions works here-- I wish other med schools were this quick.

Thanks for posting the twitter info.

I kind of liked their 1:23 Tuesdays and 3:21 Thursdays from last year 😛 Maybe I'm missing something, but what do the 10s and 3s signify? Is it just the 13 in 2013?

Can't believe they're going to start offering interviews tomorrow. I've been following Michigan's Med School admissions tracker pretty much all through undergrad, and it's crazy to finally be part of the group of applicants!

Anyways--good luck to everyone!!

Hahah I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be like T-T-Tuesday and Th-Th-Th-Thursday....right?

That's what I was thinking! I thought it was rather cute actually. Everything about this school seems so friendly!

That makes SO much more sense 😳 Anyways, excited/scared for whenever my committee letter is actually sent in so I finally get my application in the bid for one of their OOS interviews.

As per their most recent tweet, if you haven't seen:
I anticipate 575 interviews will be offered this year. (375 Non-residents and 200 Residents"

Also, side note: I believe the first II is traditionally extended to a UMichigan undergraduate/alumnus.

jeghaber, I'm sure you'll be fine with those stats of yours! also, random but I feel like we're applying to many of the same schools 😛

I'm kind of wondering if that means no one today will be oos. If they're released all at one time per previous tweets it would seem that way. Oh well, I suppose I can wait til Tuesday to get rejected 🙂

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but we'll see how this cycle pans out 😳

Last year, the first OOS interviews "reported" on SDN were on the Tuesday (7/10) after the first IS offers (7/5). Of course there might have been non-SDN OOS-ers who received invites on the 5th, but my guess is most offers on the first day were to IS-ers.

By their twitter feed:
"42 Interview offers today at 3:33 (a nice mix of R/NR). Per tradition, we'll make 1 offer early (Noon) to a MI resident/UM undergrad."

So nonresidents will also get invites! Good luck to everyone!

Wow, that's exciting news! I wonder if I submitted early enough to be considered for this first wave? Complete 7/10.

You might be! Last year I submitted my secondary on Monday 8/22 and received an interview invite the next day!

My LORs aren't in yet, so it'll be a while before I can start worrying about this, but I'll be rooting y'all on from the sidelines!! 👍 👍

I have to say that UMich takes the cake in my book for coolest AdCom. Why can't they all be so informative?

i dunno. it's nice having a mix. if i don't get an invite at 3:33 I'm sure I'll feel worse than if i didn't know those were the first ones released. but you're right, the transparency is a nice change from the norm.

No II. Wasn't one of the lucky ones. Didn't expect it anyways.
