2013-2014 University of New Mexico Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
31 as of today (15 last week). I know some people on there that either had deferred last year or are ba/md, so hopefully that means 70 spots left for us! Kinda feel like a creeper for looking at the group page... Lol

I know at least one person on there is bamd so I'd assume the 31 includes them. And maybe a few that aren't on Facebook. Close to what I expected would be taken up already. Still scary though!

Dang, best of luck to the rest of us!!

I believe there are around 45-40 slots remaining, or at least the difference in spots have been offered to other applicants/ UNM SOM programs. 54 slots were remaining when I interviewed and I know rolling admissions offers have been extended since then. Still great odds for all of us! Much better than other programs.

did they tell you the ratio for normal applicants? cause on the AAMC it shows 1:3 but then Im not sure if they counted the BAMD ones as well.

You are right. we do all have a pretty good shot. If not admitted at least on the waitlist. I know someone told me that at the exit meeting that they had like two weeks ago that there were about 25-35 people there.. maybe more that had been rejected. They have rejected people since as well. I think she told me that when she called the admissions office they were going to have 3-4 more rounds of denials. That was two weeks ago so we made it through 2 of them.

I know its early but if any of you guys who have been accepted (or will be accepted) before 2nd look day plan on going, let me know. Myself and one of my buddies will be giving tours to the students that attend and will be more than happy to go over stuff you probably didnt get during your interview day. Good luck to those still waiting.

A friend of mine got admitted rolling today. Anyone else get any good news??

Just out of curiosity when is 2nd look day?

The entire Brodeo isn't going to give the tours Ost3oclast? I'll be there as well.

Congratulations to all of the student who have been accepted so far and Best of luck to everyone else waiting for emails, so do I 🙂. I hope, we'll hear good news very soon.

Can someone give me direct link of Facebook page for 2018 class? How many students have been accepted so far? Any idea...

32 people in the group as of today. Read earlier comments though. Some of these people deferred and others are BA/MD.

I don't know if you have to turn in your paperwork to get added though...

Hahaha nah man just two of us. Didnt want us all to overwhelm the incoming students with too much bbbbbrrrroooo talk.

So guys, here is a bit of new news. There are two more rounds of rejections before March 14th. That means this week and next week (probably) . Praying we all make it through. It would be too cruel at this late stage to get rejected! My prayers are with you all.

Chemnerd how is the convo in the facebook page? Everyone seem really nice? Good group of ppl for the class so far?

At this point, is UNM also rejecting Interviewees? or just the candidates who didn't get interview invitations?

How do you know so much about the notification rounds? Been calling the Admissions Office?

I am curious about this also, are we certain that they are doing weekly rejections? In any case, it is good no one on this thread has posted about their own rejection. I think we are all in great shape!

A friend of mine and her friend got rejected a couple weeks ago. She said that when she called and went to the exit thingy that they said there were four more rounds of rejections. (that was three weeks ago) and then she said that one of her other friends called yesterday I believe and was told there would be two more rounds of rejections before March 14th. She said they were really nice and willing to answer that question. This is the first year they are doing rejections for interviewees in order to allow them time to study for mcat/apply to post bacc programs/regroup for next cycle

I just wanted to share with you guys what I heard. Sorry if anyone is skeptical/ irritated by it.

I like that Admissions is doing that. More time to improve your application prior to reapplying.

Just a little heads-up, you won't get a good "feel" of your classmates until you're a couple of blocks into school and you've been in tutorial groups with them. Somebody you got along with at the mixers and social outings might really annoy and irritate you once you have to work with them in a small group.

Thank you for all this info doctor Agsteman. you are really helpful and we appreciate you in this group!! I guess that is 100 percent true. I didn't think about that.

More food for thought: your social circle will be your classmates. It will be like high school again (or Grey's Anatomy: the Med School Years), with all of the drama. Be prepared.

There's literally nothing on that page lol.

Rolling rejections is interviewees. I'm pretty sure they're done sending out interview invites by now, so pre interview screening should be done.

Interesting... my pre-health advisor said the exact same thing.

History has been made. An advisor was actually right 😉

Med school=high school

Wait what? Haha, I'm curious now. What is SDN's general outlook no pre-health advisors? My advisor is actually one of my closest friends at undergrad. 🙂

It actually calms my nerves to know I am still in the running, thank you for the update. So as there are rolling waves of rejections, what is released on March 15, acceptances and wait lists?

They will probably be sending out the final rejections on March 15 too, not just acceptances and waitlists.
