2014-2015 Medical University of South Carolina Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Pre-interview rejection today (OOS).

Good luck all!

Rejected Pre-interview, OOS, with above average stats for this school. Not too concerned though since I'm already matriculating somewhere else. Good luck to everyone else!

I just spoke with admissions, and they said that they will be sending out rejections in the next few weeks. Unfortunately, my application was not considered because of my (outrageously) low MCAT score. Admissions said that the minimum MCAT this year was 28 for IS (27 under special circumstances, e.g. master's degree) and 30 for OOS with close-ties. I should have known that the cutoff score of 21 from their website was way too low to be true. I am so disappointed because MUSC was my dream school, but I'm wishing everyone good luck!

OOS II today for late February, LizzyM ~72. I was just in Charleston for New Years and am excited to make another trip down.

Has anyone heard back for the Dec/Jan cycle? I think decisions should be going out today.

Woohoo!! Just got my first acceptance and feeling so incredibly fortunate!!

Thank you MUSC! Please be this kind when you determine my state residency and financial aid lol!

Good luck to everyone here!

Congrats on your acceptances! Would you mind sharing your stats/ in state/OOS? Anyone who was previously on hold get any love today?

I got accepted yesterday as well. Second time applying. Stats: IS, 30+ MCAT, 3.3+ GPA (had to do grad school to make up for that) and lots of ECs including research, volunteer, clinical experience, shadowing. From what they said when I interviewed, they accept people based on a formula where they have four categories that each count for 25% of your total score: GPA, MCAT, ECs, and Interview. They give bonus points for reapplying, grad school, really good ECs, etc.

Best of luck to everybody still waiting to hear back--and if it doesn't work out, I highly recommend calling Dr. Underwood or Ms. Taylor and finding out how to improve your chances for next year. I did that last year in April and they were very honest with what kept me from getting in and gave me recommendations on what I could do to improve my chances. I followed their advice and now I'm in. Just took a year longer than I wanted.

Answered my own question, II today! OOS and I've been complete since July

For what its worth a big wave of rejections went out today for IS students. Not sure about OOS.

I was asked by another member to give them an update on the current admissions stats for MUSC so I thought I'd post them here so everyone can see them.

As of Feb 5th they have offered acceptances to 120 IS and 8 OOS and so far only 5 of these acceptances have been declined. 5 IS rejections and 1169 OOS rejections.

It also says 18 IS and 8 OOS are "pending decision", but they don't use the word "hold" so take it as you will. Good luck, guys!

Anyone with acceptances to here and Greenville having trouble deciding? Wondering what your thoughts are comparing these schools.

Has anybody been able to find a recent match list? I'm curious and couldn't find anything on their website or Google.

I live in Charleston, and this Tuesday (yesterday) there was a weather delay with all the local schools. We were supposed to hear something via email by now, so maybe the delay threw off their plans...

Anyone heard anything at all? Inclement weather?

Its just a little bit of rain... no delays for now as far as I can tell. Also any advice for the interview? First time applying/interviewing here and concerned about my relatively low MCAT/GPA according to SDN

Just got "hold" email. Committee to meet again on March 10th.

Is anyone planning on attending the off-campus housing party the day after Second Look? Does anyone know if it is worth it to stay an extra day to attend this?

got my on hold email today they said that the final list of 25-30 students will be out by the end of this week

Could not make decision yet they said that the wit list will be made "hopefully by the end of the week" and also said that we all should be recieving the final email then ( either wait listed or rejected)

Did anybody else get a hold email yesterday? I got nothing..

Mid last month. Was told we would hear today on the final.. roster?, hah. I see now that you interviewed in march so it makes sense you heard something before anyone else. Sorry, all this waiting around has me a bit anxious.

OOS close ties acceptance! Thank you, MUSC! Hello to any potential future classmates out there 🙂

Good luck to everybody else--apparently they accept a good deal of those who are placed on the wait list!

yay! congrats! hello, future classmate!

Yea the email made it seem like they should make the waiting list by today but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen till next week

Rejection email earlier today... Looks like it's whiskey and ice cream night.

Interviewed in December. Anyone else hear anything?

Still awaiting my fate... any updates on when the adcom will be done deciding our destiny?

From what I've been led to believe, if you didn't receive a rejection email from them on Monday, you're on the alternate list.

Anyone know how many appx are on the list and how many from years past have gotten offers?

There's about 20 ppl on the (instate) waiting list and from what I understand about last year's class, 90% of those people were accepted. Also, I'm not sure if 90% of ppl from both lists got in or 90% of the people from instate got accepted.

Just curious, but how did you come up with 90%? I would be thrilled with those chances. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure they said that on interview day. If you made it this far, you're not doing bad. You never know though, this year could be an anomaly
