2015-2016 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You're not alone... 🙁
Wow, I thought I would at least have some closure, but no.

-That one Emory interviewee who did not get accepted anywhere +pity+

Don't worry y'all, you're not the only ones. While it does sting, I'm just going to focus on making my application stronger for next cycle! We will all eventually become doctors so don't worry too much 🙂 work hard and the opportunity will eventually come!

Don't know about you guys, but I'm not giving up hope yet! There's still waitlists.

Hoping for a waitlist. One more school to go in March. Hopefully the mail will be kind this month.

Accepted via a letter in the mail yesterday! Lizzy M ~70, non-US citizen

A quick note to future applicants ...I submitted my secondary in JULY and interviewed on the very last day of Emory's interview season - so, don't read too much into the timing of your invitation. It's still possible to be accepted immediately!

Another Emory interviewee with no acceptance checking in

Alternate status for me too. 🙁 Would there be a separate wait list? Thanks

Good luck to everyone on the alternate list; don't give up just yet, there's still a ton of time for movement! I have a few friends who are withdrawing from Emory for acceptances at other schools 😀 😀

For accepted students, has anyone received any information about the Merit Scholarships (i.e the Woodruff scholarship)? Have they made any decisions about the finalists yet?

So is being put on the alternate list different from being waitlisted? If anyone could shed a light on time horizons for the alternate list that would be great! Just curious if it would be a week before starting classes... I know that theoretically it could happen at any time but for those of us with jobs it would be hard to quit and move a few days before classes start. Of course, if I got a spot I would definitely do it lol.

Hehe, darn. I was hoping that it was special this time since the notification came a bit earlier. I didn't think we were supposed to hear until after the 30th...

In any case, all interviewed candidates at Emory who do not receieve an acceptance by the March date are invited to join the alternate (wait) list. This means we are in good (and voluminous) company!

In past years I'd heard that Emory takes as many as 20-40 members of each years class from this alternate list but last year not a single SDN member was admitted as an alternate (though there was apparently some slight movement). Such movement can occur up until the day Emory begins, in late July.

At this point I'm taking lessons from the matrix, telling myself there is no spoon, and willing myself a position off of the alternate list. Best of luck to everyone!

Um, anyone else receive a 500 error when they submitted their alternate thing? I also received a confirmation email so I'm not sure what to think.

And another alternate list. I will stay on this one. I really liked this school, and will look hard at it during residency.

Is it just me, or did they already ask this question in the secondary? How many different ways can you describe interest in one place?!

So does Emory not reject post-interview? Meaning does everyone get on the alternate list?

Has anyone accepted here received their financial aid packet or scholarships? You have to submit so many tax forms, and my parents (who aren't helping me anyways) took until yesterday to submit these papers on the IDOC. Do you think I am too late to get any institutional aid?

So I was placed on the alternate list, but was looking on my OPUS and there was an option for me to apply to the MPH program. I had originally indicated an interest in the MD/MPH. Should I apply for the MPH now or wait to see if I am accepted?

Waitlisted and removed myself. I really liked my Emory interview and used to think I belonged there because I did all my shadowing with emory physicians and all my mentors in graduate school were Emory graduates/faculty. Heading to Yale though, so not a bad thing at all despite the winters.

I keep getting notification that my IDOC isn't complete? It's asking for my 2015 tax forms which I do not have completed yet. Is this going to hold me up from figuring out my aid? I could be mistaken, but weren't you allowed to use your 2014 tax documents for estimations on the IDOC to hold you down till you got your 2015 things together?

Does anyone know how much waitlist movement Emory usually has?

I emailed the financial aid office about this, and they said to just wait until my 2015 documents are ready. I think it varies from school to school, but Emory doesn't seem to be interested in 2014 stuff.

Did anyone get their financial aid packages? I know they said they were going to be out on April 1st, but nothing yet on my end.

I think there is a problem accessing status page of Emory SOM Admissions. Anyone has the same issue? Thanks

Does anyone know how much the waitlist has moved in the past?

Having perused SDN (particularly for Emory) beginning with last year's admission cycle, it would seem that in years past, several people even from the limited population of SDN have obtained admittance off of the alternate list (nearly 4-5 each year in 2010-2014). This, to me, would be indicative of the truth of the statement that Emory has admitted "up to 20 students in their final class from the alternate list."

Last year, no SDN member posted that they had been admitted from the alternate list. Having spoke with an Emory Dean, apparently the combination of the financial aid system crashing, in addition to the Ebola fame, had changed the waitlist game.

Speaking with the same Dean only a few days ago, I was told that there are still 240 committed students for 131 spots. He anticipates this will start to drop out as people get their financial aid, as the AMCAS deadline approaches, and continue as people get in off wait lists at other places.

I'm just hoping for a return to the tradition of years past and hope to get a call from June sometime soon. Wishful thinking here, but best of luck to you all!

Thanks for the info!

So is there still no facebook page or anything for accepted students?? I feel like a lot of other medical schools have them... it'd be cool to get to have a group for all of us coming into the Atlanta area for the next 4+ years!

Just a random question, on the schedule there's a mention of an ETC module in Emory med's curriculum.. does anyone know what does ETC stand for?

Embryos, tissues, and cells - it's basically an overview of cell and developmental biology as it relates to medicine.
