2015-2016 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Really hoping I get an interview here. Went to Emory for undergrad and had the best experience.

So does that mean that if I interview on November 13th I'll be included in the decisions for November 23rd?
It'll be one of the first things they tell you, and it'll just depend on how frequently they meet. I heard back 2 weeks from my interview day so it may be possible.

Have many OOS applicants gotten love from Emory (IIs/acceptances)?

I don't believe Emory takes residency into account for admissions as Georgia does not subsidize Emory student tuition. On my interview day there were quite a few OOS including me.

Oh okay, thank you! That's great news.

those that have gotten IIs after submitting in july and august. Have you sent anything to admissions such as updates or LOI since your app became complete?

I was complete in August, II in October for an interview in late October and I haven't sent any updates!

If we don't get an acceptance, are we notified on the 23rd of deferment/waitlist? Also how long do letters typically take to travel? Three days?

1) No, you hear deafening silence unfortunately. 2) They eventually update portal as well so you don't necessarily have to wait for mail

Does anyone see any changes in their portal yet??
Nope, but I had a really odd panel interview and am not expecting good news. I recall one of the people in admissions said that the portal gets updated later in the day because they want accepted students to find out via snail mail.

@mkapp I wouldn't be so hard on yourself.. I honestly think those panel interviews are innately odd. I mean for me at least, we were only asked 3 questions; that makes it really tough really expand on you applications and really give a sense of who you are. I feel like everyone must feel at least a bit like they can't get the same flow of conversation that they can with an 1 on 1 interview! So be positive and hopefully we'll all hear some good news!

Do you mean later in the week? Later in the day wouldn't make sense in the context of what you said.

I think she said some time in the evening, but I don't think she was the one who actually releases decisions online, so I'd take this info with a grain of salt.

I remember them saying later in the week - like the amount of time it takes for a letter to mail

@mkapp I had a super weird/awkward/horrifying panel interview too. Got passed over in October, not real optimistic this time either 🙁

I loved my panel interview...we were a pretty diverse bunch, and they asked us good questions. We definitely got more than 3...I think maybe 5 or 6 questions were asked (each answered by all three interviewees).

Nothing too interesting, just didn't have great answers for some of the questions and found it much more awkward to give a bad answer in front of 5 other people instead of 1. Also one of the other applicants in my group was ridiculously perfect and made all of our answers sound totally silly (not on purpose, she was just awesome)

Hey all! Accepted this morning!!! Letter came today, but keep in mind I had it sent to my parents, who live about 30 minutes away from campus. My Lizzy M is 75, and I interviewed on Nov 13!

Good luck to everyone else today! Keep your chins up, no matter what. It is a long process and everyone here inspires me with their dedication and commitment to others! 🙂

Also, my portal is updated (not sure when that happened, but I just looked). There is an additional yellow tab (near supplemental info, etc) that says "Admissions Offer".

No portal update here...suppose I'm waiting on the next round, now!

No love here, either. I think I'm going to mentally file Emory in the "nope" category 🙁

Hey guys I got the "admission offer" tab in my portal... I sent the mail to my parents' house and I can't get a hold of them now... does this mean I'm in? Is there a chance I would have the portal update without admission?

No chance! You are in 🙂 Congrats!

No portal update. Guess I was passed on again (interviewed end of Sept)... LizzyM 77 w/ good ECs, ivy league undergrad, a few pubs, clinical volunteering in ATL. Thought I was a perfect fit for Emory, but I guess they see otherwise. Starting to worry if there's a red flag somewhere in my application

You'll be in the pool again next month, it's not a 'no' yet!

Are there any current students on here? How are you paying for med school at Emory? I was accepted and I want to go here more than anything, but it's just so expensive. I was accepted to MCG (a GA public medical school) too, and it's a much cheaper option.

Any thoughts about writing an update letter? There's a tab on the site for updates, but I don't know if they even read them... I'm pre-interview invite.

In the interview, they said that everything you write on the 'update' tab is read. Also, the admissions people are really, really, really nice and said that they really stay on top of updates. So, I think it is fine if you have something to add!

So I have an interview this friday, so I was expecting a schedule to be sent out, but I haven't gotten one yet! Should I have received it? Anyone interviewing on Friday get a schedule of the day/interviewer's name, etc?

No, you won't get a schedule or your interviewers names until the morning of the interview.
