2015-2016 New York University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't see a way to opt out of the tertiary app, do we just leave it blank? because as of now it says my app is incomplete because of the tertiary!
Yeah I just never submitted it. Your app will be complete when you submit your secondary and your letters are in.

Has anyone had their LORs marked as received yet...?

Is there a problem with the NYU application site?

No
i.e., you are not correct. NYU area is not Hispanic-heavy

That's not entirely correct. Bellevue Hospital is affiliated with NYU and serves a fairly large Hispanic patient population despite being just 4 blocks from Langone MC.

Sure, but it would still not be accurate to say that the NYU hospital system focuses on serving Hispanics

Hi guys. I have a quick question. For the question asking "If you have taken any time off from your studies, either during or after college, please describe what you have done during this time and your reasons for doing so.", would it be appropriate to write about my plans for the upcoming gap year? I was a bit confused since the question was in past tense...thanks!

Yup, go ahead. I did.

My letters have been received and secondary submitted but my app is still incomplete because I did not submit the tertiary... Do I just submit the blank tertiary form to complete the application?

I don't think so - it may take a couple days to be marked complete. You could just call them up and ask to be sure though.

i did not submit the tertiary app but it says my app is complete so i dont think the tertiary is your problem o.0

If I started with a relatively low MCAT score and then improved a lot for my 2nd take, does that count as a "fluctuation in my academic record"?

I think the consensus was that the academic record is more referring to grades, but you can interpret it as you will.

Also tossing my hat in here. Still waiting on being verified, so won't be complete for a little while.

PSA: Called NYU admissions and they confirmed that MCAT does not count as part of your academic record. Thought I'd give you all a heads up in case anyone was still wondering.

Currently day dreaming about the 3MD program 😍. Sounds like an amazing opportunity. Definitely in my top 3 dream schools lol. Waiting on verification. Good luck guys!

To confirm application status, I should just go by the last column where it says application file complete and not worry about the red exclamation point saying that my tertiary application is not yet submitted? Just confused because there is no way to opt out of the tertiary application besides leaving it blank

^Last year people started posting II towards the end of July for what it is worth.

The 2500 character limit is killing me. I basically have to write 3 personal statement again. Think its a problem if i keep it to ~1500?

I did. I assumed they would be happier with 1500 characters of content than 1500 char. of content + 1000 characters of fluff. Plus they're probably happier with less to read.

@LizzyM recently told me in another place as long as you're over 50% of the limit then that should be ok..

If you say that you are applying to a dual degree program, do you have to write any extra essays on that? Due to my interests and experiences I'm interests in a few dual degree programs and have spoken about that in the NYU secondary but I can't say for sure which one I want to apply to there. Any help would be great here!

I thought you had to be accepted to NYU before applying to the 3 year program. Did they change that?

I don't recall getting an e-mail, but I submitted on 7/9.

Yeah I could login, but I haven't tried selecting an interview spot yet . The spots open are between September 8 and 23 on Mon-Thurs.

Got my II at 4 p.m.!

36 MCAT, 3.76 GPA (bioengineering major, for what it's worth)

Interviewing on 9/14, anyone else??

SO EXCITED for this, I love NYU. Congrats to everyone else, and to those still waiting--hang in there!!

I have not applied for the 3-yr program and my status page says:
Tertiary Application Submitted (Only for Three-Year MD Pathway Applicants)
icon_incomplete.gif
Not yet submitted.

Do any of the II people or anyone else have this same red flag?

Yes I have it. You need only fill it out if you are intending to enter the three-year track. So it's an optional section. 😉 Did you get a II?

Can't believe I am submitting this after IIs have already started to go out...so much for prewriting

Silly question and I'm overthinking but: for the what will you contribute specific go NYU question: is this just a diversity question? Or should I research what NYU prioritizes and expand on how I will add to that?
