2015-2016 University of Arizona Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just realized that they they require a letter of recommendation from clinical experience? I sent in 5 LOR and none of them are from clinical, will this severely hurt my chances at Phoenix and Tucson and lead to automatic rejection? Godamnit, I worked really hard on both of these secondaries...

OOS Re-Applicant here. Anyone have an idea of what the criteria are for secondaries this year? And do they like to wait to send it once your AMCAS is verified? I haven't received one yet.

I remember hearing that they only sent secondaries to applicants with >/= 24 MCAT last year, any chance they raised that threshold?

I got the secondary the same day my primary was verified. I'm IS so not sure if that matters.
Not sure about the threshold. When was your primary verified?

Thanks for the info. I'm not verified yet.

Anyone else still waiting for their primary to be verified? I'm like super freaking out right now that mine is still not verified....

Question: does everyone with a complete app have a line saying "Interview - Not scheduled yet" at the bottom of their status screen?

nope, just says complete for me; submitted about a week ago

I have that and it showed up after receiving my email for an interview. Do you have a new tab on the top that lets you schedule an interview?

Nope - whether or not the line is there must not be indicative of anything then. Thanks!

I just checked and yes, I do have that! Here's what it shows (although the lock is quite a bit smaller on the actual site LOL). What does that mean? We got an interview invite? I didn't get an email at all yet.

Not scheduled yet.

If you go downtown, get the food and ice cream at HUB too!

Just to verify is this …. "Thank you for your interest in the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson. The Admissions Office has received your electronic secondary application, certification, and your $75 processing fee. We will be contacting you regarding your interview status once your secondary application has been reviewed for an interview invite."… the last email you receive before possible II?

II just now!!!! So freaking stoked right now!! LizzyM ~ 68. Really good EC. Complete 07/22. Couldn't be happier right now!

It seemed that 9/12 was the only option available at the moment. Was it the same for everyone ?

That's what it seemed like. I did find a list of interview dates online. They had them planned out till February. Looked like one day a week and switching off between Saturday and Friday.

Complete 7/22.

Do you guys think it's ok to ask for a later date? Sept. 12th is so soon - barely over a week away. Plane tickets are going to be insanely expensive 🙁

Received my interview invite yesterday evening! I received my undergrad degree from UA so this is definitely a top choice for me. Bear Down!!

I don't think it would be a big deal to call and ask. Just double check to make sure that there aren't any later ones available first. If there aren't any, I would just call and ask.

Question for those invited for interview: How long did you have the "The committee decision for your application has not yet been determined." and what did it change to before you got the II?

Congratulations!

"Our medical school is currently unable to extend an interview invitation to you, however; we have determined that you are a competitive candidate to continue to be considered at this time." - This is a "hold", right?

Just got this too. Sounds like a hold. OOS (Cali) here ~73 with no ties at all to Arizona

Yeah, I figured. I'm OOS with a 71, no ties. Whatever, got an II today so I don't mind 🙂

Just got the hold email too. I'm curious as to how many people last year with this email ended up getting an II but I'm too lazy to fish through last year's thread. Anyone else know? Lol

+2 OOS with no ties

For everyone that got the "hold" status, what were your complete dates?

Did the digging from the old threads and here is what I got.
-A lot of people that were not selected were put on "holds" and it doesn't look like anyone was outright rejected.
-People on "hold" were given II anywhere from 10 days after to 2 months after.
-People that interviewed and not selected were given an email that said "The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson sent out a round of acceptances today. Although you have not been selected at this time, you are still an active candidate in our applicant pool. This is not a rejection letter. You will remain eligible for an acceptance at any time in the season." and they receive that email EVERY TIME acceptances were sent out (I'm not joking). Also the subject line of this deferment email was "UA Tuscon Acceptance update." (still not joking)

tldr Arizona loves keeping you as their side-bitches and letting you know it.

Wait, all you guys got emails right? Even for holds? I'm confused because I don't see this information anywhere on the actual secondary portal. Can anyone please corroborate for me if the hold notices were via email or portal update?

Got the hold notice via email about an hour ago. Also, it doesn't reflect on the application status but it does show up under the "Communication Status" tab on the portal.

@sharkbyte Thanks for answering my question, I appreciate it. Sorry about your rejection man, but good luck on the rest of your cycle! 🙂

Hold email at this school. Rejected from 2 out of 23 MD schools. So I'm down to 20 possible MD schools.

Hi there ! I am flying to Phoenix prior to the interview . Do any of you guys know an easy and cheap way to go from Phoenix to Tucson ?

Completely unrelated, but good luck at Bayer Leverkusen . Will always remember the little pea for the goal he scored with his face in the community shield haha

So basically, chances are the "hold" that some us have including myself is really a rejection.

Great.
