For those with an interview - quick question about the picture. It says maximum dimensions is 160x160 but doesn't specify what the measurement unit is. I'm assuming pixels? Thanks!

I assumed it meant pixels as well. I just used the same photo that I've used for every other school. Didn't seem to cause any issues.

Hi! Does anyone know if at the MMI we have a chance to talk about why ASU and to ask questions about the school ?

I would assume there will be other opportunities to ask questions about the school throughout the day. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if one of the MMI prompts is "why the U of A?" (Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I definitely wouldn't refer to them as ASU. I think that's Arizona state university, which is a huge rival for university of Arizona. Again, if I'm wrong correct me. I'm OOS, so I could easily be wrong.)

Thanks ! And sorry for the name confusion :/ haha

OSS, MCAT 503, cGPA 3.7, sGPA 3.2, 1000 hrs community service, non-trad

Ignore this if you feel the least bit uncomfortable answering my question, but are you by chance URM as well? No disrespect. Just 100% curious.

No offense taken. Yes, I'm under-represented - originally from South America and older than most applicants. At the same time I speak 4 languages fluently, have 10 years of experience in the wellness industry and glowing LOR. I guess a diversity of experiences might have made me a good candidate as well as my commitment to underserved communities on top of my minority status.
This was only 1 out of 2 interviews so far though 🙁

Dang girl! That's awesome! Good for you. I though I was cool with 3 years experience and being fluent in 2 languages. Haha. When do you interview here? I hope everything works out for you!

It is cool! I just happened to be older and have had more years to do stuff 🙂

That will definitely give you an advantage. I'm a little older myself and I definitely feel that my extra experience has helped me prepare for med school.

Anyone in here with interviews going to the pre orientation thing tomorrow?

Well, considering that the average age of UA med students is 26, I'm sure y'all are in the right spot.

Yes! Just landed, waiting for baggage haha 😛 staying at the Aloft place. Isn't it weird that it's raining?! First time in Arizona too

Does anyone have recommendations for what to do before the reception before 3pm? To see Tucson?

If you like hiking, then Tumamoc Hill; Walk around UA (it's a beautiful main campus); visit Mt. Lemmon (though idk if you'll have enough time there).

I'm interviewing from out of state. I LOVE mountain biking and hiking and plan on spending a few days getting to know the area. Any recommendation on some good trails?

Sabino Canyon has some good trails. I'm not a mountain biker, so I can't get into specifics, but I have run a couple of trails over there - telephone line is my favorite.

Pre-reception was super useful - recommend going its even a remote possibility! So far so good and Loki g the school very much. MMI bright and early tomorrow at 7 😛

For all of those who have received the secondary application invite to the University of Arizona Tucson, how long after your primary was verified did you receive the secondary invite? It's been 2 weeks since my primary was verified and I still haven't received a secondary invite. Last year, I got an invite within 24 hours of my primary being verified, so I'm getting worried!

It took me about a week to get it. Don't worry. Just start writing up the essays so you can submit it quickly. They're probably just lagging behind in all the paperwork they have to look through. (if you get really freaked out, just call them. It can't hurt to do that)

Aww man. Just got a rejection email a few minutes ago 🙁
My parents live in Phoenix, and I was hoping the state ties would grant me an interview here!
Good luck interviewing everyone. I wish y'all the best!

Wow you actually got a rejection and not a hold? That's novel... Mind if I ask your stats and IS/OOS?

Anyhow, sorry dude/dudette, and good luck with the rest of your cycle!

Is your rejection from UA Tucson or UA Phoenix? I know Phoenix sent out first batch of rejections today. I didn't know that Tucson rejects folks this early. I am still waiting to hear from both.

OOS non-trad -- cGPA 3.81 -- MCAT 32 (10/10/12)
graduated from grad school w/ 1st class honors
Then I've got something like ~1200 hours as a phlebotomist ~7000 hours research ~120 hours shadowing. Also leadership experience up the wazoo

(Just more context beyond the hard numbers)

Man that's rough... You sound like you have a great app there. Good luck with all your other schools, I'm sure you'll get in sooner rather than later with an app like that!

At my Tucson interview a couple of the med students said that Tucson is going to be opening up more out of state seats and rely on Phoenix to fill most of the in state seats. It was kind of just a rumor/hypothesis. But it would make sense that you got rejected from Phoenix if that is the case. Just a thought.

Is it a good idea to send an update letter or letter of inert to this school? And what would be the best way to do that?

They told us that the only way they accept updates is if you have a recent LOR from an activity after you sent your app

I was going to be interviewing that day if they couldn't accommodate a different day for me. Luckily they were able to and now I'm interviewing the following week on October 9th! Good luck to you and everyone interviewing next week!
