How do you go about finding a student host? Is it an option you select when picking an interview date?

To my knowledge, you will be queried by admissions when you are selected for an interview. Unfortunately, I don't have much insight on that side of the veil, so if you have any questions about the hosting process and how to get a host I would recommend contacting the admissions office directly.
If you receive an interview invite, you will get an email once you confirm your interview date. There's a link in that email with student hosting information and a sign-up (there's a link towards the bottom of the student host info page that directs you to a hosting form).

I talked with a rep from admissions, here's a few pieces of info you all might find helpful:
1. the first admissions committee meeting that will discuss interviewed applicants will be the first or second week of October. Though I guess that doesnt really matter since Vandy releases acceptances en masse on December/February. But just try to relax until then 🙂
2. Vandy invites roughly ~450 applicants every year. I'm guessing that the committee that decides who to invite for interviews meet every 1 or 2 weeks. We're a week and a half into interviews, so I'm guessing there's anywhere from 50-60 applicants invited thus far. There's still plenty of time. Hang in there!
3. Interview days are every Monday and Friday. As far as I can see on the calendar, almost every week from now until January is an interview week.
4. Vandy is very selective with interviews, and if you've received an invite, they believe that you're already a good fit for Vandy. So be sure to bring your A-game on interview day and show them what makes you unique.

I'll post my experience on my MD apps tomorrow, but you all will love it here. Curriculum 2.0 sounds like a dream, though kinks are of course being worked. There will a meeting in October with the Dean regarding financial aid, but (for now), merit scholarship offers will be made with the acceptance. A separate scholarship committee determines who gets scholarships from the pool of accepted students. Last year about 50% of accepted students received a 75% scholarship. This year, there will also be 6 full tuition (!!!) offers. It's not yet known if scholarships will be offered with acceptance, or later down the road. If you get a scholarship, you are not eligible for need based aid, with the exception of loans.

My portal's "under review tab" is gray and unresponsive when I put mouse over it now (just lake tabs 4-6). Does anyone know if that means my app is no longer being considered?
Has it always been unresponsive? Perhaps try a different browser. Feel like this is most likely a technical issue.

you should be able to, the airport isn't that crowded and my interview day was done at 3. an uber to the airport takes about 15 min and $17

Stopped waiting for a secondary long ago. Moved on, no regrets. Getting love from others!!
I thought Vanderbilt was good at presecondary rejections? How long have you been waiting?
I was verified on the first day, so since Early July. No rejection, just silence.

Not holding my breath. My stats are low for Vandy anyway. Was complete in mid-August.
secondary completed as of mid-late July... no II. is all hope lost for an interview? seems like they've moved well into August...
Awe maaan, no student host contacted me and I just dropped $120 on a hotel room 5 days before my interview...ouch. For anyone waiting for a student host, I recommend booking a hotel with a 100% refund cancellation policy now just in case no host is offered. You can always cancel a hotel later and they'll be cheaper earlier.
Also, does anyone know how the majority of Vandy's courses are structured? Large lecture? Small seminar? PBL? TBL?

Yea, then book Airbnb early so long as you can cancel later, because I checked Airbnb, too, and about 5 days before only $300 a night stays were left.

Don't give up hope! I was verified 7/23 and got a secondary 9/9 (and am still working on trying to weave the story of my life together..)
Grand Opryland Hotel is a nice tourist attraction, they have huge indoor gardens, and it is definitely worth it, especially to decompress (plus it’s free
)! The Parthenon and The Hermitage are nice places too if you just need to kill a few hours. If you do have time, there are a ton of cool hiking and backpacking places outside of the city.

I still can't get over how great their secondary app portal is. It's just so well-designed and nice to look at!

A former Vanderbilt medical student who was also interested in wilderness medicine, who stayed at Vanderbilt for her emergency medicine residency, and then went to Harvard for a wilderness medicine fellowship, including a rotation in the Himalayas. While she was there, the Nepal earthquake occurred.

Rejected just now - pre-secondary. First rejection hurts a bit, I have to say.
🙁 I feel for you, man. Trust in yourself though - you just have to keep believing that things will work out in the end. And you have so many more schools to hear back from!
it's been my experience that they are. any correspondence, anything you send to them, is added to your file.
Finally!! It's been over two weeks since someone got an II. I'm both scared and excited
