It's that time of year again. Last year's thread had the following format:

State
Program name (Interview invite date): Possible Interview Dates.

Please bold any new additions, and include each program under its respective state.

Good luck!

are the places listed so far done giving interviews to those who've already applied.

are the places listed so far done giving interviews to those who've already applied.

No idea but it's so early I assume they would be giving out more invites later on since it would be almost impossible to have looked at all the applications in 24 hours.

Plus they can't possibly email all the applicants they want to invite in a single batch. It would be difficult to provide options for everybody. I am assuming they do that in batches and fill up as they go. Additionally during the course of the season, some students may decline to go to a certain place on a certain date because they are invited to their number one choice. So spots will open up.
Finally, the best programs will likely take time to sip through the applications as to invite the applicants they consider the best. Since they are desirable, offers are usually accepted, so they know they will fill. They have no reasons to worry.

So at this point, I would not worry about not receiving an invite to a program on your list. Also remember that stories abound about people "cold emailing" a program of interest where they ended matching. That's an option to keep in mind. But now, it is too early for that.

Question for those receiving invites already, do you happen to reside or go to med school in the state that the program is in? I'm just wondering how programs are already selecting applicants for interview without really looking at the applications yet. It is clearly not just a score filter = auto-invite, so there has to be other criteria. Any inside info on this at all?

wait so you guys are getting the interview offers or you are just copying the dates off programs' sites?

I am out of state with no ties. Definitely wasn't expecting it.

These are interview offers. The date in parenthesis is the date the offer was sent.

I'm one state away.

I'm also out of state with no ties for my first invite, so surprised for sure. I agree there's no way they could have sifted through all applications in one day, they have to be using some arbitrary metric. My last name is very early in the alphabet???

And it's not Step 1 score, because mine definitely isn't the highest either.

I also just want to wish everyone luck as we embark on this crazy journey together. It's going to be a wild ride full of ups and downs, that I am trying to mentally/emotionally brace for. I look forward to meeting many of you out on the interview trail! :highfive:

Not, not a filter. My step 1 is average and my class rank sucks. My research is stellar though, but the program that invited me is a community program, not academic. All that to say that nothing in my application would explain this. I also received the invite like at 4:30 pm. Eras opened at 9 am that same day, so I don't know how they could have read all their applications in that time frame.
I am from Texas.

No this are the dates mentioned in the interview offer that I (and I am assuming others) have received.
At this point, everybody chill out. It is a crap shoot. Programs have their way of doing things. Go figure. Most of us will hopefully have more invites that we can attend (let's not forget the prelim app).

Thank you Jets. I hope to meet as well on the trail. Keep us posted.

I also received an interview from one of these programs. It is in my region, and has a current resident from my program. No other ties.

I received an interview from one of the schools already listed, my parents/family home is about 20 minutes from the hospital and am a state resident.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I wish there was more clarity in the whole process, but I guess we are all just stuck guessing half the time. Congrats on the first set of interviews everyone! Keep them coming!

Are applications not considered complete until all 3 LORs have been assigned? I'm still waiting on one last LOR. Could that be a factor in why I haven't recieved interview invites yet?

I was under the impression that LoRs or lack thereof do not matter until 10/1 at the earliest (when MSPEs/Dean's letters are released), and around your interview time at the latest. Been told this by several attendings/mentors, albeit from other specialties. PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.

This may depend on your school. At mine, our Dean's letters are already uploaded and released to programs, so perhaps that is why some people receive invites earlier than others.

If it makes you feel better, I've applied to 5 of those listed and am also currently shut out. AMG with 240s step.

I thought that ERAS doesn't release the dean's letter until October 1.

Same here!

Hopefully as IMGs you have applied broadly enough. Perusing at the resident rosters of various programs, some programs were more IMG friendly than others and perhaps these should be the ones to target. Also I think it is worth applying to all the programs even if it costs an extra few thousands (I am at $200+ K so who is counting...) .
I do wish you all the best of luck.

Now I'm curious. When I go into my ERAS and look at "Programs Applied To", then look under "Track Assigned Documents" it says clearly that "MSPE (Dean's Letter)" was made available to programs on 9/15/16 at 9:00am. Does anyone else see the same thing? I agree with you all that everything written on the web says Oct 1. Obviously not a big deal at all, I'm just curious now.

Mine is not even uploaded yet. Because of the Oct 1 deadline our folks at the med school will upload it at that time.

I looked at my application and I see what you mean. It may very well be an oversight on their part resulting in a premature release or it could the way the code is written. In either case, congratulations on the early success!

Hey there.

I was told at some point that by mid October you need to have about 7 invites or so. The majority of programs have not started to invite students. So at this juncture, it would be indeed premature to worry.
In the meantime, I would check that all you material is in order, review your PS (and make correction, since you can do so). Did you transmit all documentation required by the programs? Double checking would not hurt.
Additionally, you may be a strong applicant who decided to apply only to the top 20 programs or so. In this case, I would not expect an invite any time soon. The best programs probably wait longer (some of the MSPE, some for step scores etc...) because they can and as I understand they are more likely to do fewer rounds than other programs because they are more desirable.

Keep us posted.

Does anyone have any wisdom on how to schedule these interviews? I've had a few come in so far and I feel like I closing my eyes and choosing dates randomly. I've heard to put some of the programs that are lower on your list later, so you can cancel if you get enough invites.. but other than that, I feel lost. Any seasoned vets out there have advice? Or current applicants?

The advice that I have gotten so far from the radiology residents at my home institution is to put your top choices somewhere in the middle of the interview season, because you will have had practice in other interviews and you won't be so burnt out as you will be by the end. Schedule maybe one(?) "practice interview" in the very very beginning and then a couple of your "middle" choices after that.

I think in the end, it doesn't really matter all that much. But definitely don't schedule your top choice first or last.
