Did anyone that was waitlisted early in the interview season receive a High Priority WL email? I was put on the WL back in October and I'm curious if anyone that interviewed back then received a High Priority email in last few days.
I was waitlisted in December and I have not gotten such an email.

I was waitlisted back in October as well and have had no emails from them since. It's definitely interesting to see people who have relatively recently interviewed get accepted off of the WL. Congratulations to all of those people, I'm definitely jealous!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how often the committee is meeting these days?

I doubt they would need to meet at all. Offers now would presumably all be off the waitlist, in which case they would only need to confer as people drop acceptances to go elsewhere, and I'm sure they have a roughly ordered list so that it's not too much work to go through for each new offer.

Just my own assumptions on the system, though!

So... Am I the only one who hasn't received a fin aid package yet? Sounds like many people around here have.

Got my financial aid yesterday. Pretty much no aid, so massive loans, here we come. 🙁 Hope I end up wanting to go into a high-priced specialty...

Has anybody else landed on the HPWL, or been pulled off the waitlist? Anyone have any secret knowledge as to what to expect in terms of WL movement this year?

I believe they have pretty decent WL movement, but that's just from what I recall hearing in the past, so don't quote me.

How is the financial aid? Do they give generous need based aid? Can you guys comment on how much need based aid you received?

I got basically nothing, but to be fair, my parents make more than most (or used to, before my dad retired).

I received aid covering a little more than half the cost of tuition and fees, the rest were the standard federal loans. It's all need-based and the formula they use is posted in their financial aid guide.

Withdrew my acceptance here - congrats to those matriculating and good luck to those on the waitlist!

Dropped my acceptance here recently - hope it goes to one of you guys!

I withdrew my acceptance, despite absolutely loving this school. I hope I haven't made the wrong choice, and I hope whoever gets the spot makes the best of it

All quiet on the upstate front, huh? Any word on waitlist movement yet?

Has anyone had any experience with calling the admissions office to find out where they stand on the waitlist? I called and listened to a message asking students to be patient as they cannot give decision information over the phone, but I'm hoping to find out if I still stand a chance at UR. I know the WL isn't ranked, but I imagine they have to have some sort of rough ranking that goes on.

I've called and talked to them recently. All they can tell me is that wait listed applicants are waiting for someone to give up a spot in the class, and the lady I've talked to said she can't tell me anything else.

Hope that helps. This wait is not fun, no doubt. Good luck!

Does anyone know if rochester is receptive to letters of intents?

This has most likely been asked before but where can I find residency placement information?

Accepted off the WL today. Was never on the HPWL.

Did you receive an email or call? I received a call from an unknown number about an hour ago that I couldn't answer! Just hoping for the best...

Both, I missed the call but there was a follow up email asking me to call Dr. Hansen.

What size iPad do people generally go with? I have no idea how much space generally gets taken up by the curriculum and related files/apps, and was hoping also add some files from my computer (let's say 50 GB may from that).

The standard offering is find. What a lot of my classmates did was switch over to laptops within 6 months anyway

So the "integration of iPads into the curriculum" isn't really that integrated? I never cared for Apple and would prefer a computer, but mt wife really wants an iPad, so if it's easy to just go with a laptop, that might be a good solution - sounds like it is?

I think the school makes you buy the Ipad- it's part of tuition-but I stopped using mine like 2 weeks in. I used my laptop mainly. A friend used her surface. I can't even remember a single thing I was forced to use it for

The syllabus and the syllabus companion for MTC (Molecules to Cells--biochem & genetics) were both in the ibooks format. With the former you could get by with a lower resolution pdf format but the companion (review questions) could only be accessed through an apple product (i.e. ipad or macbook). This perhaps shouldn't be the only reason you get an ipad, but like rochester2019 said, they will make you buy one.

Are either of those truly necessary, or could I just give the iPad to the wife and get a laptop for myself right off the bat?

You might need it back for at least a couple months but other than that you should be fine with your laptop, as long as everything remains the same. Please feel free to PM me for further questions.
