Can anyone that has interviewed and been given notice of their decision tell me how long it took them to give you a notice of decision? A few days? Or weeks?

@chmed2019 it took around 5 weeks to get mine, the typical turn around seems to be around 2-5 weeks. Mine took longer because there was a fire that closed(?) the school as well as Thanksgiving holidays.

Yes. The California wildfires made the air quality so horrendous over all of California that nearly every school closed.

My decision came in roughly 3 weeks after my interview.

I am very ignorant on the subject of financial aid and funding. Does anybody know why a school would turn down Title IV (federal) funding?

Cost of compliance and administration. Tbh it’s a real bummer cuz you wont be able to refinance since most refinancing companies only work with Title IV schools, so you’ll be stuck with a fat interest rate for the life of the loan.

Jeez. And there are no private loan options that would allow for refinancing later on?

I looked around and it looks like we would be better off getting a co-signer now to get the best rates, since it’s a very low chance that a refinancing company would bail us out in the future. Maybe possible if CNU comes to their senses and accepts Title IV especially since we already qualify.

My biggest thing is if I should get variable or fixed interest rates. It would be a gamble to pick variable because we would be hoping that LIBOR doesn’t move. But it’s been on an upward trend for the last year. And I don’t know what cap they have so we could be sitting with a 10% rate down the road which is horrendous.

tldr get fixed rate and have mom and pop co-sign.

Also if you have undergrad loans they can’t be deferred while attending a non-Title IV school. Sooo unless you have savings or income elsewhere you’re gunna be paying nice federal loans with private ones.

Are you sure this is true? AFAIK refinancing has nothing to do with the school. If you're working as a doc, a lender would be an idiot to not offer you the same refi as any other doc

You can enter your previous federal loans into income-based-repayment. Income during school is 0 so payments are 0. All you have to do is reapply for IBR once a year which takes about 15 minutes

For the refinancing thing I’m sure because lenders specifically state they refinance loans only for Title IV schools. I looked at SoFi and a couple others. Look up all the eligibility requirements.

As for the repayment tip, that’s a great idea, definitely will be doing that!

To those who were accepted: did you write thank you letters to all 6 MMI interviewers? I completely forgot to this week, and now I feel like a dummy. :smack:

Yes, all of them. If you forgot their names you can email admissions and tell them your group number and ask for them. Send your letters to the admissions and they forward them to interviewers. Hope this helps.

I feel like this would add unnecessary burden on an already busy admin staff. Plus the interviewers already sent in their evals by now.

If I were you, just send a general thank you to the main email so they can just quickly add it to your file, and add a couple sentences on why you’re a good fit for the school- maybe they’ll read it at the adcom meeting when they review and vote on your app. Keep it short and to the point. Worked for me.

Hi All. I have an interview coming up for Northstate soon. Is there an accepted/current student I can PM for advice? Riding all my hopes on this school right now.
