I have heard that this year is supposed to be a big waitlist year with the new traffic rules, but idk if ppl are just guessing. Im sure this has been talked about somewhere in this thread, but has anyone heard this from actual schools?

All the schools I interviewed at said they were putting way more people on the waitlist/hold list this year, but that’s only a few schools. I’m willing to bet it’s a broader trend, but I don’t think you can generalize to all schools.

Any chance UVA was one of those schools 😉

You mind sharing the schools, or at least give hints in the most anonymous way?

I dont think we will find out until May 1st at the earliest because they have until tomorrow night to submit their decisions.
If you look at the waitlist thread from last year, it seems like there was a small wave on April 30 (like 5-6 people on SDN reporting WL acceptances).

I figure it is probably best to wait until, say, May 3rd. Movement won't be instantaneous, and if an applicant drops an acceptance on april 30th, the adcoms won't know until the morning of May 1st, and they require take a day or two to take stock of the new data they'll have.
oh, i am sorry. I mislead you. i am not waiting for waitlist movement, - i got off the waitlist for my top choice 4 days ago. I am waiting for the CTE button 🙂. I know it is really silly, but i cannot wait to press it and make it official. (please do not kick me off this thread now, i really wanna see how things work out for all of you guys. I have grown weirdly attached to a lot of you throughout this painful process)

So I’ve been following this thread and I understand why you posted that, but this is the most cruel thing to post in the waitlist thread hahahahaha

sorry.. But i WAS playing nice though! i released every single acceptance super fast ! 🙂 (and this is my third year applying, so i suffered enough 🙂 hahaha)

look, this is the thing. I truly believe that every single one of you will get into at least one school. And the reason i do, - well, one is that i am an optimist. The other reason is because all of you have been around for a while, digging through everything you can find on the forums, and you know what you are doing! so i know that all of you put together a good application. we have all been around here for a YEAR, a lot of you - much longer. It has been such a LONG CYCLE. but the good news is that it is almost over!!! one last push. We are almost there.

LOI unless encouraged by a school are meaningless. This is also from an ad director.
I'm getting tired of seeing this claim getting spouted off on SDN like it is law. Every school is different, every applicant's circumstances are different, and this cycle is especially different given the lack of the national acceptance report. Just take a look at school-specific threads in past years and you'll see that many, many students report being accepted after sending a letter of intent. Personally speaking, I sent a letter of intent to my top choice school - one that doesn't "encourage" this type of correspondence - and was accepted very shortly after on a day outside of the scheduled committee acceptance days.

I think in this cycle especially, letters of intent can be the difference between an acceptance. Obviously it helps if the school actively encourages them, but I would hardly call them meaningless. If you plan on sending a letter of intent and you have other acceptances, I recommend listing those out and maybe even your waitlist offers as well (that's what I did). But if you have no acceptances but have a clear top choice school, it does not hurt to send a letter of intent (unless the school specifically says not to send one). Your other option is to do nothing, and good luck with that.

my school said specifically they are not doing anything different this year, so it really just depends on the school. Most schools will be open about it though if you wanted to call, the worst thing they'll say is that they do not know or aren't revealing that info

I feel like schools won’t start making offers until tomorrow because if if they do today, people will have less than 24 hours to decide between 2 schools if they have another acceptance. Vs 5 days or so if they get the offer after today.

Plenty of them made offers on April 30 last year. No reason to think that would change.

And that’s why I said it’s not generalizable to all schools.

are people here writing letters of intent without other acceptances? I've heard in several places that these are generally viewed as meaningless - would it still be meaningless in this cycle, given all the waitlisting going on?
I don't think they are meaningless. I wrote one to my top choice this month because I knew there would be movement. If you think about it, if they are looking at two applicants equally qualified, but one has written a letter that says " I love your program, here's why, and I will make an amazing student and accept the position and withdraw my other apps, that's a seat that they have filled with a guarantee. They become meaningless when you write more than one. That is frowned upon. So if you write one make sure its only to one school and that you mean it

And that’s why I said it’s not generalizable to all schools.

I also want to add the fact that even though a school isn’t changing its policies, that doesn’t mean that the school won’t be affected by the nationwide change.

For example, suppose a school still interviews the same number of people and initially accepts 2x the class size and fills the class from the waitlist after April 30. But the school might see a significant change in the number of people taking its outright offers and how deep it needs to tap into the waiting list.

An adcom here, I believe gyngyn but I may be wrong, said that the 4/30 deadline is no longer enforced by AAMC, but is now merely a suggestion. Schools however can stipulate their own guidelines about 4/30. If schools are clear on this I don’t see why they couldn’t offer an acceptance now.

Tried to take a nap before work and was woken up by a call with the same area code as the school I am waitlisted at... It was just a telemarketer. What a cruel joke.

I was expecting calls from 2 schools on October 15, and I got like 5 calls from telemarketers in those area codes. So annoying.

I've been answering almost every unrecognized number which I NEVER do lol
I started out that way too haha but then I finally looked up the school's area code bc I kept getting my hopes up.

I get those scam calls all the time and now i am just numb to seeing the area code....
I usually get only get those calls from my area code, but ~surprise~ I got one from another state today haha

I dont know if mine will come from the area code where the campus I applied to is located or the area code of the main admissions office.. so im just going to answer all of them.

Do you think they will leave a VM if I don't answer? I work 8-530 and sometimes miss phone calls because im in a patient room.

well hopefully we won't have to keep answering random calls for too much longer 😉

My school said they would call then e-mail. I assume most schools would leave a voicemail or send an e-mail in addition to calling, since most people would be at work or school.

Woke up to an email from my top choice yesterday morning. I thought for sure that it was an acceptance, but all it said was they will be pulling people from the WL in May.

Aren't you an adcom? How are you waiting on an email for your top choice?

I’m only gonna start freaking out when someone gets off the waitlist in the school specific thread.. until then I’ll assume they haven’t made decisions yet

I feel like I am the only one in the school specific thread I care about lol.

Ahahaha same. Funny story, at the very beginning of the cycle, I had my eyes on a specific in state school that I was most competitive for, and there wasn’t a thread for it, so I started one. I got an interview eventually but got rejected lmao. The other two that I didn’t think I had as good of a shot at waitlisted me I thought it was funny.

😱😱

Haha, no. I’m a premed.

I think only the desktop version of SDN shows “Accepted Student” and my signature with my II, acceptance, WL status.
Oh well you said you were in one of your posts so that's why I was confused

No, I have never said that, lol. Never ever ever would I misrepresent myself in any situation.
In an earlier post, you said something to the effect of "an adcom here, i believe gyngyn...". I think they probably just misunderstood that you were referring to an adcom, and weren't saying that you are one.
