nah don't say that, hopefully all of our turbulent family will make it. it's just a bunch of A types ( which we all are) arguing no one should take it seriously, we all wanna be doctors after all

I thought it was pretty clear I was joking :help: I think I need to take a break from this thread LOL
maybe my IRL friends will humor me instead for a while 🤣

Haven't seen anyone waitlisted with an acceptance suggest that it's the same as being waitlisted without an acceptance. But maybe I missed something. If there were two WL threads, I'd be inclined to check both!
Good luck to everyone today!

Same. A lot of people would start on the WL no acceptance thread then have to leave it and move to the WL with an acceptance thread. Sounds complicated, lol.

I think future doctors could figure it out 🙂

You would think, but look at how we did today. Just finished reading the full thread. My bad for even replying to an old comment.

Anyhow, it's super early on this FriYAY morning and I can't wait for this thread to be flooded with great news.

Has anyone called to inquire about number of vacancies a school has

At this point, I don't think there are any vacancies. Once someone drops, they pluck someone from the wait-list. So even though there might be a momentary "vacancy", it isn't a true one, if that makes sense? And to be honest I don't think the school would be that open about it.

<<<< it's anonymous, let's see what the overall consensus is

It's not about what people think. It's about practicing empathy and compassion on this thread regardless of the circumstance. People aren't in here with acceptances purposely rubbing it in anyone's face, or asking for advice on obviously ridiculous choices. EVERYONE on this thread is here for support. You choose where you lend yours.

Now, let's drop it and get back on topic as another mod has repeatedly suggested.

<<<< it's anonymous, let's see what the overall consensus is

Stop derailing the thread with arguments about who has it worse. This thread is for support to everyone waiting on WLs. If having people on this thread who have acceptances bothers you that much, you are free to ignore them or leave the thread. If you continue to post along these lines, I will be forced to take moderator action.

Additionally, we do not allow users to post links to third party polls/surveys unless it has been preapproved by admin. If you’d like to make a poll, feel free to start a new thread.

well dang why are you so mad? yall are acting like this thread is about support when you moderators are causing it to not be that way. Like can you please calm down? it was just to see what others think like why are you so wound up about it? what "support"? You being mad about what the survey shows is not my fault. Please stop bullying me.

I invite you to report any post you feel may be bullying in nature, but enforcing the TOS you agreed to when you signed up isn’t bullying. Now drop it or start a new thread.

I mean the worst that happens is they can’t tell you anything, right?
adcom: "Because you called and bothered us, we are bumping you off the waitlist and you're now rejected. Oh, and also, we're gonna FRAME you for MURDER."
applicant: "Why are you doing this to me?"
adcom: "Because we're Yale SOM, and life is a ****ing nightmare"

Is it too early to call? I worried about looking needy which is the ONLY reason I haven't reached out to my schools

I mean in all honesty, it’s only May 3. I’m sure it’s super stressful, but there is still going to be plenty of movement.

this is the best thing i have read all day  mulaney is always relevant

May be regarding making calls. But regarding withdrawals, I disagree. The majority of vacancies should’ve happened 4/30.

My school used to have a **** ton of movement to the point that they pulled off waitlist prior 4/30. But Now, only 1 person reported an acceptance yesterday. It’s just a really bad year 😀

And my school has been calling people all week. It’s just too early to call because there will still be movement in general. What it is like at any one school is a guess, but patience is a virtue. I’d say at the end of next week would be a good time to call (but I’m not an adcom, and schools vary in how open/closed they are to communication).

Edit: I totally wouldn’t blame anyone for calling though! It’s hard not knowing what’s going on. If it’s stressing you out, just call. Even if you don’t get any info, at least you’ll have called.

Call and say what, exactly? Just to ask about WL movement? Or try to make a case to get yourself off the WL?

I'm not sure calling to make a case for oneself is the best move. BUT calling to say "hey I'm on the waitlist and I was wondering how much movement you expect / if you can give me insight into where I stand" can

1) net you some valuable information and
2) can convey your continued interest without you needing to be explicit about it.

However, doing it too early / too frequently might annoy someone important. There's a line here I know. Just gotta figure out what it is

From an adcom: I believe that everyone on a WL is entitled to an occasional call during the WL season. Most schools are going to be dependent on recruiting some applicants off their WL, and they do want to attract the best and brightest from their WL. For this reason, (and out of general respect for others), It is therefore wise for schools to treat their waitlisted applicants well by answering questions etc.

It is reasonable for a WL candidate to inquire as to the current status of the class number (some schools are currently still "overfilled" - ie accepted so many students such that they still have 108 students on the list and they only want 100 students to matriculate). In addition, WL applicants should feel that they can inquire as to their relative position on the WL and what they should do to continue to indicate their interest as the season winds down. Many schools, even those with unranked WL, at least put the WL applicants in tiers, and by this point in the season, would be able to tell those in the bottom tier how likely it would be that they would be recruiting anyone from the bottom tier. Many schools will not actually rank WL candidates and others may decide not to be transparent about tiers, but it is not unreasonable to ask. I have heard of schools where they had set times each week where WL applicants could call the Director of Admissions....that seems ideal for all parties.

I plan on calling my 2 WL schools if I don't hear anything by the end of next week. I'll probably let them know I'm holding an acceptance that I have to commit to by May 14 (2 weeks from when I got the call) and see what they can tell me. It's worth a shot since I'd most likely attend either of these 2 schools over my current A.

waitlist: claims to be unranked
waitlist: accepts students from WL on 5/1

i thought the committee had to "meet" and "discuss on an individual basis" and "choose students based on class composition"

am i bitter? yes. will i be immediately not bitter the second i get in? also yes.
[/QUOTE
Most schools' committees put their WL students in tiers, and this may have been done quite some time ago. At this point, If a URIM female with high MCAT and GPA and strong basic science research withdraws from the class, the Director of Admissions can select a similar top tier student to replace her. The director can also see the class composition at any point and can select an appropriate student from the top tier that he/she feels will best balance the class AND whom they suspect is likely to say yes. The entire ADCOM is not needed at this point, and it is usually a very small number of people who are making the decisions at the micro level at this point.

I just called to verify what I read on SDN and was told SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT by their admissions office  ah. Wonders never cease.

What'd you ask, and what'd they say?

And to answer your previous question, I just meant calling to ask if they can give you any info, either general or specific to you.
