surely something has to pull through for me now that I'm at 7 ii's....

getting this many II's is an absolute blessing. now I'm just worried I'm gonna be that guy who goes 0/7 on IIs 🙁

You just have to get an acceptance. There's no way not to, I believe. You won't be that guy.

Yes. Contrary to popular belief, LOIs do have some impact even if the WL is ranked.
Should one still send a LOI even if they don't have much to update the school on? I was waitlisted at my top choice (whose WL is ranked), and I would turn down my other acceptance in a heartbeat for an acceptance at this school. I guess I'm not sure what all to include in the LOI...

From what I've been told, unless the school explicitly states that they don't want any correspondence/ updates from you, a LOI cant hurt.
I would just try to focus on what is unique about the school, why it fits your goals, why it's your top choice, and what you would contribute to the school/ class by being accepted.

Thanks! Is it better to send via e-mail or handwritten letter?

@c_yang A handwritten letter isn't necessary. I typed up a letter addressed to the program director and emailed it to my top choice programs MD/PhD admissions email address asking for it to please be added to my file. The admissions admin assistant who monitors the email account replied saying she added it. Make sure you letter includes your AMCAS ID at the bottom after your name.

Nobody in my friend group is adhering to the 4/15 suggestion so I’m not hopeful. . . Sample size is small tho.
Oh I honestly don’t really expect anything to happen on 15th, it is just it is easier for me to think of it as 2+3 weeks vs 5. But we ARE expecting financial packages to come though

I feel you, that does seem more bearable! I like to prepare for the worst and be pleasantly surprised if something else happens. I am super excited about the fin aid packages. I dunno why, it’s gonna be like here’s your loans, Ochem!

Hahaha . Yeah !!! I guess I am waiting for a miracle - like “here you go , there is full ride for Drexel for 4 years”... Hahahaha (I am sick and I think fever is starting - only way I can explain this optimism).
Honestly at this time in the cycle o feel so drained and down , it is crazy .

You got 7 MD IIs... you will be fine. You really will be. But for fun - I would go DO unless you have improved your app in some capacity. Wouldn't even have to be a major improvement, since you got 7 IIs. If you tried to run back the same exact application, it would be risky.

Thanks for that humbling advice. My premed neuroticism has been acting up lately. I’m definitely just going to take the DO and run if it comes to it lol. Appreciate you guys

I was waitlisted at my dream program program in mid December, and the most upsetting part was realizing that I would have to live with the anxiety of not knowing for another 4 and a half months. This is the home stretch!!

I got an early waitlist in October, and just moved on from it. Then I got more and more waitlists, and I’m suddenly very interested in that early waitlist once again, and it’s hardly moved at all, and will possibly start moving in 2 weeks

On the wl for Temple and GW with an upcoming interview at NYU-LI. Could someone do me a solid and tell me I'm gonna make it? Don't mind if it's a lie or completely unfounded.

First off major grats on the NYU-LI interview, that is nothing to scoff at. Second of all grats for being able to interview at Temple. Being from Philly, I think that Temple is critically underrated on Student Doctor forums.

Third, you will make it. All about having the longest view in the room. The uncertainty is a terrible feeling and as physicians we're going to have to get used to the feeling of uncertainty. But you will make it.

This right here is why I love SDN. Thanks for being an encourager! You made ME feel better, and I wasn't feeling bad 😍

Thanks guys! I sincerely appreciate it. It made a huge difference in my day and I feel a ton more motivated!

guys all i need is

Congratulations! you going to be a doctor

Thank you!

But seriously, after three cycles and a post-bacc, I'm more excited about not having to grind through another application cycle than I am about the prospect of finally becoming a doctor.

...it's only been a few hours, though. Maybe reality will set in.... still super pumped though.

i totally get it... This is my third cycle as well.. Honestly, - i got acceptances a month ago, and it is STILL kicking in. 🙂)

I'm WL at 7 schools (4 IS Texas, and 3 OOS). My first interview was wayyy back in August 3rd, so I've been on this train for a good number of months. Also just got my last WL in Tulane. April is gonna be long, and May could be even longer, but we're at the home stretch fellas. Just keep pushing, and find something to keep you busy! For me it's finishing school strong, playing basketball for fun, and also playing Zelda Breath of the Wild on my Switch. Whatever it is, find something to pass the time and enjoy these last few months, because once we get to med school, we'll wish we were worrying about WL instead of hard af classes.

If you don't get an acceptance, I will register for a hatmaking class, make a hat from scratch, and then eat it.

Waitlisted at two schools (Emory and Davis). Should I start revamping my personal statement and getting my LORs in order?

Waitlisted at 2 MD schools. Already filled out Fafsa for them but was wondering if you have to apply to Grad plus loans in advance before getting in as well?

Did you re-use the same LORs and PS during your second cycle?

Yeah, how much did you alter them, if you don't mind me asking?

Yup. I only applied to a handful of schools while I waited for my MCAT score. Not smart on my end, but I was convinced that I would apply to those schools no matter my score, haha! Once I got my score I knew I didn’t want to go forward with the cycle. (The next cycle I got II from 3 of those 5 schools and it never came up)

LORs can be a year old, no prob. And, unless a student’s answer to “Why Medicine?” has changed or if they weren’t happy with their PS to begin with, I don’t see why it can’t be reused.

Hmmm thank you! That's very interesting to know.

It's usually a good idea to rewrite it some. I've heard that a carbon copy PS/secondaries can give the impression that you are lazy or have not improved your application since the last cycle. This does not mean you cannot talk about the same themes, but use different wording and incorporate some new experiences if you can.

I don’t think anyone would suggest using the same secondaries. I was responding strictly about the PS and LORs. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it was my motto (esp. since my issue was only my MCAT. PS was perfect) Changing a few sentences around isn’t doing much. What are the chances that the same reviewer will get your app AND remember every word?

I totally agree about not having to necessarily get new LORs for a reapplication, but over a year or so, there is probably something that can be improved on a PS, whether or not it's a few sentences or the overall flow of it. Even a few sentences could be worth it. Plus, this recent post from Gonnif actually makes it sound like it's really easy for a school to compare an applicant's current app to their previous one, so it sounds like people should much rather be safe than sorry in terms of at least changing their PS up a bit.
