What is HSC? Also, I didn’t know Yale had a Neuro postdoc unless you’re referring to an affiliated site?

Yeah it is the Yale School of Medicine for three days a week and HSC, which is the Hospital for Special Care, a large inpatient rehabilitation hospital. So you do three days of typical outpatient neuropsych evaluations and then two days of neurorehab.

Oh my goodness, so sorry that you didn’t get the emails right away!? That’s insane and so stressful! I would hope these sites would still let you interview??

For the neuros out there. How are you all deciding whether or not to do APPIC match or APPCN match. can we drop out of either if we are registered for both. I have so many questions and am frustrated as to why neuro is so different than the regular match

Wasn't aware that APPIC had a postdoc match. As for the APPCN match, you can withdraw anytime prior to submitting rankings.

my confusion is that you can only hold a 'bid' for '4-hours', but if we have two sites that are a week apart in notification days, we have to just pick without notification from both? Hopefully that makes more sense

From APPCN

If I receive an offer from a program that is not participating in the match, what should I do?

First, you need to consider how you would rate this program among the other programs. Make a list and determine whether you have sufficient information at the stage of the process to make your decision.

  1. If you are not ready to make a decision or are not interested in the non-participating program, thank them for their interest and tell them you are remaining in the match due to your interest in other programs.
  2. If you are interested in the non-participating program, but you are interested in other programs as well, tell the non-participating program the following:
    1. You are participating in the APPCN Match and are interested in other programs as well as the non-participating program.
    2. You have included the non-participating program in your rating list, and you will not rank programs that you are not as interested in as highly as theirs, if they commit to holding your offer until after the Match results are announced. In this situation, you are encouraged to get their commitment in writing. In this option your best interests are served as you are able to consider all training opportunities according to your true preferences.
    3. You may contact the program director of your preferred program. In this situation, the applicant can approach their number one rank site and inform them that they are the preferred site but that they have received an offer from their second choice program that is not participating in the match. The program director can tell you if they plan to rank you high enough to match with them if you were to rank them first. Therefore, if you have received an offer outside of and before the match, we encourage you to contact your preferred program(s) that are participating in the match and inform them of your situation.
  3. If the offer is from your most preferred program, you may accept the offer and withdraw from the match if it is prior to the day to submit your rank order list. If you have submitted a Rank Order List, you are bound to respect the results of the match and there can be professional consequences to you as the site you are matched with will not have a resident if you withdraw at this time.
What are the consequences if I take part in the Match but then renege on the outcome of the Match?

The Match result is "final." Applicants and programs must accept the Match result and failure for either to do so would be viewed as unprofessional to the larger neuropsychology community, and there may be negative professional consequences. An applicant reneging on a Match commitment has potentially harmed another applicant in the Match who may have preferred the vacated position and been desirable to the program, but has now matched elsewhere. The program has also very likely been harmed because other applicants it may have wanted to fill the position may now be matched elsewhere. If a program chooses to not honor the results of the match, they would likely be removed from APPCN membership for unprofessional behavior. If they are a non-APPCN program participating in the match, they would likely not be allowed to participate in the match. In summary, in order for the Match to function, it has to be binding for programs and applicants. Remember that to participate in the Match, those participating must accept the terms of an Agreement found on the APPCN match website.

I'm in the same boat. One of the programs I am interviewing with is not participating in the APPCN match and I believe will be making decisions by early to mid February, so unfortunately if I do receive an offer, I will have to make a decision then. I think you have to go with your gut feeling and consider whether it's a site that's the right fit and that you're truly excited about.

PsyGal192, hope you don't mind my asking but when did you hear from VASF? Also waiting to hear from them about neuro!

Coping? Realized one of my apps got bounced back due to attachment issues so calling the site training director and trying not to sound insane and hope they accept a late app.

Oh man. Most sites seemed to notify last year throughout the 3rd and 4th weeks of Jan. And so far I've noticed a lot of neuro and VA sites (which are not my sites)....and this already feels like the longest week of my life.

It just started. :uhno:

Out of curiosity, when presenting an assessment case for interviews, is it ok to present the same one I sent as a sample report or should I choose something different? I just happen to have a case that was a strong report and that I am particularly passionate about.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight?!?! Based on previous years' data, I'm guessing I've got another week and a half to wait. This is literally the only time I've ever wished I was a neuro or VA person #lorddelivermefromthisevil

Also, anyone else a slave to their email alert/notification again?? I hear it go off and have a mini-stroke every. single. time. Just like the good old days.

I just updated the list with the PMs I received. I'll update the list with all of the responses I've gotten in the thread today later tonight! Thanks for your patience everyone! What a busy and exciting week for so many of you!!!

Have you heard if Seattle VA has notified about other tracks from friends etc who have applied elsewhere within their postdoc program?

Had my first interview and was literally checking my email to see if anywhere else had emailed during breaks. I couldn't even hold it together and not look WHILE SOMEWHERE I WANTED TO BE.

Just had another heart attack from an e-mail saying "we've received your application and look forward to reviewing your materials." Every time, I die a little. I mean I love the communication and how I'm talking to real people but also....JUST TELL ME PLEASE.

Nooooooo... I wanted Michigan Medicine but my phone is not ringing ! :-(

As they appear to be utilizing phone calls rather than email, I think it is rationale to assume they may have simply run out of business hours while going through their list. Phone calls surely take much more time than email. So don't get sad.

I recognize that this is an awesome position to be in, just looking for advice: I have interviews for two sites in the same area, weeks apart. Neither interview invitation offered me multiple date options. Would I be shooting myself in the foot to ask one of the sites whether I could do a remote interview instead of in-person to save money/time-off? I have already accepted this interview, though I haven't yet bought my plane ticket.

I would first ask the site if it was at all possible to do your interview around the date of the already planned visit. We've accommodated for applicants in the past. It's not a definite, but it's worth an inquiry in case they can do it.

I'm dealing with a similar situation and thought I'd share - was offered an interview in a city I was already planning to travel to for a different interview. I explained my situation to the second site and requested an interview date close to the date I was already going to be in town. Might be a bit of a different situation because I was offered several dates to choose from, but my experience was that they were very understanding and willing to try and work with my schedule.

AHHH I haven't heard from Michigan/VAAAHS yet!! I wonder if all of their phone calls went out yesterday!

Nope, no word. I'm guessing it'll be a mass reject email sent out at end of week or something. I will definitely post here if I hear back though!

I am waiting to hear from Michigan Medicine for the clinical child track. Has anyone heard from there? Are you both waiting for the VA/neuro track?

What do I do when I'm anxious? I rumina-I mean cope ahead!!!

Here you can find a running list of all of the submitted interview notifications and rejections for the 2019-2020 Postdoc selection cycle. Please utilize the following format when providing information on interview notifications:

-Site name
-Track (if applicable)
-Invite or rejection
-Date notified
-How notified (mass email, personal email, phone)
-Interview date
-How are you coping?

You can submit here in the thread or by sliding into my DMs.

It cannot be overstated just how premature this post is. Do NOT get anxious, it is FAR too early to receive anything. Last year the earliest invitation wasn't until December 7th. I'm just an anxious kid and needed to be busy after submitting my stuff 🙂

Has anyone applied to/heard from The family institute at northwestern university clinical scholar fellowship?
