@SciPhiDoc I was not trying to be harsh, just trying to say that the attentions of the administration were elsewhere for the moment and not to expect a lot of action towards the next year's applications at the moment. UTRGV has kept their timeline as proposed for their first Early Decision applicants and I have hopes that their process and timeliness is improving.

Not to worry. I knew what you meant. I was just having you on [note smiley face emoticon],* giving an oblique shout out to the AdCom/AO folks, and assuring some applicants that, from what I've observed, they're not far from their [AdCom/AO] minds. *I often forget that tone doesn't translate well in this medium.

On a completely different note: Although they're prohibited from sharing any details, acquaintances on the UTRGV SOM AdCom have told me more than once that they're extremely impressed by the great applications/applicants they've been screening!
 
Has anyone who emailed admissions about a student host heard back? Emailed toward the end of July but thinking it may be time to just book a hotel room soon

I submitted my secondary in mid-June but my video still hasn't been viewed. Is anyone else in a similar boat? I'm just trying to get an idea of how worried I should be since it's almost been 2 months...

I dont think you should start to worry. They dont look at apps in chronological order.
I wouldnt worry until late October.
 
So I have an interview at another school in Texas on 9/13, but I signed up for UTRGV on 9/20. Since they do mondays, fridays, and saturdays, would y'all recommend if I send "im in the area (Texas) bc of another interview" email to them asking for a reschedule date near my other interview? I am just thinking of flight $$ and missing school, but I'm totally alright with going 9/20. I was just wondering if I could go another day to minimize traveling. Thanks!

Not guaranteed that they'll have interviews on the date you're hoping for, but worth a shot.

Also not sure how much money you'd actually save on a flight--Edinburg is pretty far from the most of the other schools in Texas. It costs about the same to fly into MFE from DFW as it does from New York.

If they did hypothetically reschedule my UTRGV interview near my other interview date, then I would drive between the two because my family lives in Texas, so I could have access to my car for those days. If I email, would it be portrayed negatively in any sense?

I just checked my video's views for the first time in a week or two, and it looks like somebody else viewed it! (Video uploaded and secondary submitted on 7/5)

I submitted my secondary early June and haven't had anybody view my video yet. Probs went straight to the trash haha
 
II early August, secondary submitted mid-July, IS

From what I've heard, everyone over a ~50th percentile mcat and 3.5 gpa will get a holistic review, so don't lose hope! 🙂

I thought if one received a secondary invitation, he or she would receive a holistic review?
 
UTRGV is the only school that has eased my anxiety about people being completed later than me getting ii. My video still hasn’t been viewed 1.5 months later so hopefully apps aren’t viewed in order and my app at other schools have either not been looked at or could be relooked at once the interviews w high stats applicants are done

Do you know if they rescheduled anyone else? I'm nervous about paying for a $400 plane ticket + hotel if this is commonplace. Otherwise, I'll drive to be on the safe side.

As far as I know, they canceled the Sept 14th interview date and rescheduled to Sept 21
Also they do offer student housing so you can cut down on hotel costs

II yesterday afternoon. Pleasantly surprised as an OOS applicant (also because my committee letter hasn't even been submitted yet lol please don't let this be a fluke).

Congrats! When was your video watched? I’m starting to get worried now, secondary complete almost a month ago and still no video view...
 
i wonder how they decide to evaluate applications. I received an II in the same week I submitted my secondary. Im not a high stat dude but i think my personal experiences aligns with their mission/values
 
Does anyone have any insight into admissions process at UTRGV? Congrats to those that received interviews, but I have seen a lot lately where people got an interview just a few days after submitting secondary, while others haven’t even gotten a view on their video after months?
