Rads is pretty do-able as a DO from what I have seen kinda reading around & from my anecdotal experience. The hospital where I worked in undergrad had about 1/3 DO's & it was associated with MSUCHM moreso than it was MSUCOM (one of the CHM campuses is literally next to it, which is why I say that.) It was in Michigan - very DO friendly - but still. Also I saw a handful of diagnostic matches this year on my schools' match page this year. Too lazy to read through & get the exact number.

forgive my ignorance, but I thought gastroenterology was a fellowship after IM. can one go straight into gas from med school?

Yeah I think their first DO may have been from NYCOM back in 2011? Gotta double check on that though. They’re very DO-friendly :)

Some schools do it. I believe the NRMP also does it in charting the outcomes as I've seen the data somewhere before (something like >70% of all matched individuals match to a top 3 choice). I'd have to really dig to find the info though.

Yeah that MD school notably started in the same spot as the DO school that was there long before that, pushing DOs out of JPS.

Apparently so unless they tabulated the numbers wrong for the powerpoint slide I saw it on. It is unusually low in PM&R for our school, we usually have a lot more match into it. Once the official match list comes out we'll have a clearer picture I suppose.

Not interested in pm&r but I'm a current 3rd year at nycom and according to one of my friends who is also a 3rd year here and interested in pm&r, 2 people matched to NYU, one to Northwestern, and one to UPenn. Not sure how many total for pmr. This is like 3rd hand knowledge at this point lol so maybe take it with a grain of salt, but thought I'd pass this along.

I saw on facebook page pics of two people with PMR at NYU and Northwestern so this is actually factual information

What does prelim and transitional year actually mean ive always wondered. Does it mean they did not match? Like whats the difference between that and SOAPing

It depends. If you matched advanced programs like derm, radiology, pmr then they mean nothing because intern years are required. But I doubt 30 people matched those specialties. The more likely is they went unmatched and had to soap into any available spot.

Ahhh ok that makes sense. So that would most likely include SOAPers. ty for the clarification
 
Some details on KCU. Class size around 250. 10 didn’t match, after SOAP there was 2 that didn’t place. One that didn’t place was applying derm. Many that didn’t raw match were applying ortho, obgyn, gen surg but found positions in the soap.

Damn sucks for those 2 kids that didnt place. Looks like derm kid didnt have a backup plan? So now what do these kids do?

They pray to god that they can scramble into something. If not, they bide their time and reapply next year

Research, observation ship, work as an MA at a derm office, postpone graduation
 
One of the RVU PM&R matches is misleading, based on how they entered it into the match list.

His prelim year is at St. Joe's. His PM&R residency is at Johns Hopkins. He was an OPP fellow.

Same thing for the other listed as St. Joe’s. That’s her prelim year. Her PM&R residency is at U of Colorado.

Not sure. It was interesting bc we had two derm matches. No clue if they just applied top heavy or what.

KCU did a similar thing a few years ago to their own disservice. Grad matched MD prelim IM and MD derm but the match list just had him as prelim IM on the website.

Good point. Thanks for pointing that out. I was really impressed by the Johns Hopkins match and feel like they did him a great disservice by listing it as St. Joe's.
