1. There is no doubt the level of stress brought on by medical school can impact a student's mental health and emotional well-being. Discuss the ways you plan to manage your health and well-being during medical school. (250-300 words maximum)

Based on last year's forum, it seems like it should be sometime soon. Last year people received them on July 20, so hopefully this week! 🤞

Looks like every single question has been changed from last year. Here are the prompts for 2024-2025:

Does the text "While you may match experiences to different competencies, select the most appropriate competency (when possible)." mean that I can assign one experience to multiple competencies? For example, I do clinical research (that's how it's labeled on AMCAS). Would I be able to list this in medical experiences and research? Or just research?
 
The instructions for the supplemental essays say max 2,500 characters, but the actual text boxes only allow 2,000 characters...? Just go with 2,000? Or email?

I'm interpreting this as you can list it in medical experiences and research, but they may prefer that you (for example) just put clinical research under research and then list other things in medical experiences such as clinical work/volunteering or shadowing?

Okay they responded!! They seemed mildly confused but said to go with 2,000 characters for each supplemental essay. @wysdoc

I submitted AMCAS first day and verified within 1st week. I am obviously instate, LM 69, above average gpa and MCAT for brody, still have not received any indication of a secondary?
Should I be concerned that I got screened out, or are we thinking they are sending in batches?

Any other NC applicants still not gotten?

after you guys submitted all three of your gateway activities, did anyone receive any type of application complete email confirmation? I just submitted all three activities and I haven't gotten any confirmation email.

How do you like it? Didn’t go to ECU but I did visit a lot, definitely held up its reputation as a party school lol. But I heard the health sciences campus is really nice, been in the triangle personally my whole life so kind of worried about the switch from the city to sort of country in Greenville.

I didn't go to ECU and didn't visit before medical school so I had no exposure to the undergrad campus. The health Sciences is pretty far removed from the actual campus so there is very little if any interaction with the undergrad population. I've never interacted with anyone from undergrad since Brody is connected directly to the hospital so there's been no need to go over there.

I've enjoyed my experience here for sure. Of course there is always something that someone will complain about but you'll get that at any campus. The curriculum is fast paced and and we sit for Step 1 no later than late march as opposed to other schools who sit in the summer (this is said to give time on the back end for more AI rotations away from the school.), so its a lot at once but lets be real, its med school so its goin be a lot no matter where you go.

Being connected to a level 1 trauma center is a huge... blessing? Feels weird to say that because obviously we don't want people to have to come in for trauma but in terms of a medical student, you'll be seeing a lot of uniques and high level cases, (all of eastern north carolina, upper south carolina, and lower virgina) can get flown by helicopter to us so we see a lot.

cheap tutition (from a medical school perspective)

in terms of going from city to country in greenville, you don't really have a lot of time to go "out." Medical school is a massive time sink so most of the time is goin be spent studying. People around greenville are kind. Never had a truly bad experience with the population.

Hey, i just wanted to ask again, did anyone get an application complete email after completing all the gateway activities? I submitted all of them four or five days ago and I didn't get any email confirming I'm done.

Hey! I just submitted and I did not get any confirmation besides the supplemental application fee payment confirmation. I am a reapplicant, and I do not believe I received confirmation of submission last year either, but I still received an interview. All should be good!

I have a question— I see on their website how important producing primary care docs is to them. If I want to become an oncologist, would you recommend I steer clear of talking about that since its not primary care?

They are very passionate about the mission of primary care. However, If they ask you, and you have said somewhere in your application that oncology is your passion, I wouldn't lie. They do a thorough review of your application prior to any interview given out if your interview story is different than your application, that would draw some questions. They are aware that students have varied interest and that students change what their interest are as they go through med school. But if you snag an interview, I wouldn't come in hot screaming about how its oncology or bust lol

long story short, don't lie but don't tell them there is absolutely no chance you'll want to do primary care. Hope that makes sense.
 
Yeah I called them the other day and they said they are still pulling primaries.


However anyone NC residents submit first day 5/28 and still no secondary?

Just as an update, I got an application complete email this morning so I think they’re going through everyone’s prereqs and recommendations and marking complete manually

Did you guys submit your primary to ECU late May/early June? If not, they could be reviewing primaries in order because I submitted mine in early June? just speculating, but people above did say that when they called, ECU was still pulling primaries so they could still be getting to yours hopefully 🙂
 
Anyone having real trouble finding specific opportunities on their website? Besides their distinction tracks which I keep getting forwarded to 😱

Yes omg...this makes me feel so much better I thought I was just incompetent. I had better luck just like googling "ECU brody xyz" than navigating internally, but even when I found a page it was pretty sparse....

ok glad I'm not the only one. I hit quite a few dead-end links as well that gave me 404 errors 🙁
 
Just received a secondary...wondering if it's even worth submitting or if sending it to me this late already means they screened/I'm at a disadvantage?

I'd say definitely submit! You miss 100% of the shots you don't take! ECU is unique in that it's so state-focused that it has a much smaller applicant pool, so why count yourself out? 🙂
 
So, the prompts say 250 - 300 words maximum, but they also say 2500 max characters (and the box has a 2000 character limit).

I have responses that are under 2000 characters and fit in the box... but are over 300 words... what do I do lol?

I think 250 - 300 is a guideline to estimate how many words 2000 characters would be. I just kept mine under 2000 characters when I submitted and didn’t worry much about word count! 🙂

Thanks! If ours are over 2000 characters we just put them in the space that says "Please use this area for more complete answers that required additional space, indicating the corresponding number of the question. (3500 characters)" right?

I know this is a dumb question I think I'm just being neurotic lol

Hahaha no you’re good! I believe so. If you can’t shorten your essays enough to include all pertinent information to your application, I would def use that space!
 
Anyone get a payment verification email as well? I paid right when I submitted my secondary and put in the correct AMCAS ID but I just got a email saying I need to verify my payment.

I got a payment verification, but no application submission verification email.

I got one of these too, I submitted my payment even before I turned in my secondary lmao. I just forwarded them my payment confirmation email.
