2024-2025 East Carolina U (Brody)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Per Brody website, "If an accepted applicant decides not to enroll before April 30, the [deposit] fee will be refunded upon receipt of a written request, but no refunds will be provided after April 30."
I'm assuming there will be other withdrawals today/tomorrow. Sucks for people that have to renew leases and make other decisions but hopefully we will hear from them in the next couple of days.

I think they just emailed people on the WL saying that they are expecting a lot of movement after tomorrow and wanted to gauge who is still interested in staying on the waitlist.

Their class of 2025 is 66 students so it’s a 100% match rate
I think the person is asking why only 66 matched, despite a 100% rate, when approximately 86 started.
I’ve been seeing this trend as well for the past several year. 60+ students are accepted but ~approximately 20% aren’t accounted for in the end. Unlike UNCSOM or DUKE SOM that finished about the same number they accept yearly.

And I do think it’s because many students at ECU fail out or aren’t even moved forward if there’s a chance a student will not be able to pass step. This is scary stuff if you’re a student at ECU, those are DO failing numbers.

I might be wrong but I think there were only 66 students who matriculated into ECU in 2021 because of Covid, so they only had a class size of 66 and 100% of those 66 matched.

I started looking at accepted students and graduated students going back to some information obtained from here. Usually 86+ students are accepted. For the past several years now. This has been a trend. I looked at 2024 match data and 79 graduated. Which is more than this year. But I can definitely see your point. It’s interesting to know what’s happening to these students and why so many fall through the cracks.

It is because the rest of them are doing research years between M3 and M4, they did not drop out. They are just taking an extra year.

Is there an application portal where yall can see your status or has it just been emails for updates?

Even if they take a research year. You would think that it would eventually catch up. If you consistently accept 86 students, 20 take a research year. 66 move on. Those twenty return the next year with the new incoming class of 86 students.

Lol that's not how that works

Yeah roughly 1/4 of the class taking an extra year is nuts. Also is that just conjecture that they're all taking a research year or is that known? The Match article they published stated one student took a research year post-grad for ortho. So 1 took a research year post grad and 19 took a research year between 3rd and 4th? No doubt some took a research year but a more reasonable assumption would be that some students were forced to repeat years/dropped out.

Should an inconsistent graduation rate give pause to attending? I'm currently waitlisted here but have OOS A at a more expensive institution

So many people (and by "so many" I mean like at least 4) withdrew their app, and still no updates from them. I wonder what they're waiting on. If anyone is more familiar with the process, let us know!

We’ve had a lot of people leave the GroupMe in the last couple of days, so I imagine some big waitlist movement will be happening soon.

To anyone who has been accepted, does the call always come from a 252 number? Has anyone received the A call from a different area code?

Does anyone know what the precedent is for people who are still on hold by mid-May? Are holds just typically rejections at this point or is there still a real chance at A’s and waitlist?

Honestly who knows, someone should call admissions and see if they’re even still alive at this point.

You know how employers like it when you call to check on your application because it shows interest? This is exactly what it's like. Someone (not me) should definitely call and ask for us. Be pushy and assert your dominance. 😗

just called- they said that waitlist/hold are practically the same thing... I asked if hold had more priority and she said it depends. also said there is no timeline, they're just waiting on people to accept their offer and those people have until June 28th... little disappointing (sigh), feeling like it might be time to focus on the next cycle which sucks. also still wondering why no one has heard anything if there has been some sort of movement.

Hmm that’s not what I was told when I called last month. They told me waitlist and hold are definitely different and that a hold means they just haven’t reached a decision yet. And they said they would be done with decisions well before the end of June. I don’t understand the June 28th date either because there is already the 4/30 deadline, they already knew who is going to their school two weeks ago. Stuff just doesn’t add up.

I called a while back and this is what I was told as well. Also, on their website it says all applicants on hold should receive an actual decision by end of May, so hopefully at least us hold people will get an update by end of month.

This is all speculation, but I am a current admitted student and attended the admitted students day here. Many of the people I met were holding waitlists at other schools, specifically UNC. I can only assume that many admitted students have indicated plan to enroll instead of commit to enroll, so Brody is unable to begin accepting waitlisted students. They have sent multiple emails urging students to commit to enroll by May 30th, however we technically have until June 28th to do so. I urge you all to not give up hope, I think it will just take more time than they initially predicted. Good luck everyone!

I recently bought a car, and I keep getting spam calls with extended warranties. I can't NOT answer the phone, just in case.

Does anyone know ~ballpark~ amount how many are in the group me/have committed? Trying to gauge if I should give up hope loll

I just called, I’m on the high priority wait list, and I was asking if there has been much movement on the wait list or do they expect there to be more movement. They said they have really only filled half their class and many have not committed, so they expect a lot of movement going into June. They also said they are shooting for 92-100 for class size. Hopefully some of y'all find this helpful.
