I am out of state and have a 510 MCAT. MUSC's website says OOS applicants should have at least a 511. Could I still be considered?

The verification email they sent today states the following about OOS applicants:

To be eligible for interview consideration, out-of-state applicants must possess strong “South Carolina Close Ties” such as:
  • Having lived in South Carolina for multiple years
  • Parents who currently live in South Carolina
  • Completed an undergraduate/graduate degree from a South Carolina institution
  • Currently living in and/or working in South Carolina.
In addition to possessing strong “South Carolina Close Ties”, out-of-state applicants must meet or exceed the average accepted MCAT of 510 and a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.7.

I received a verification email, but never received or filled out a secondary application. Is that normal for this school? Or should I email admissions?

I just received an email requesting that I complete supplemental MUSC questions through AMCAS that are separate to the secondary questions. Does anyone know where to find these or what questions they are talking about?

Is the secondary application free? I pressed submit and it never took me to a payment page.

they’re supplemental questions not the secondary. says in the email after these questions if you qualify they will invite you to fill out the secondary. when you submit the actual secondary you will pay a fee.

Has anyone received the actual "secondary" and not just the supplemental essays?

would it be a waste for me to apply? OOS, strong ties (parents +siblings live in SC). 511 MCAT, ...3.3 cGPA (positive trend, but might not matter for this school). I know the requirement is 3.7, but MSAR shows some OOS under that range. Any OOS "A"s that can weigh in please?

MUSC is one of my dream schools, hard to let it go.

Does anyone else applying Early Decision know when interviews would be?

Hello! I am an out of state applicant, but I was born in SC and my family and I lived there until I was 6-7 years old. Nearly all of my family is there currently. Would this count as close enough ties? I have the stats, is it worth applying? I know they are very selective for in state so im not sure.

Those sound like pretty close ties. I can't imagine too many OOS MUSC applicants with their entire family in SC.

Based on my experiences last year, I believe those are the secondary questions. They will send a separate email at a later date, where we only need to pay without answering any additional questions. Unless they are doing it differently this year :)

+1 “actual” secondary received. just a questionnaire of demographic information and whatnot then they make you pay a fee to submit.

Congrats!! That is so exciting!! If you don’t mind me asking, are you in state or were you an OOS with close ties

For MSTP applicants, has anyone received any communication from this school? I haven't received a secondary or verification of primary recieved or anything like that yet.

has anyone else received the true secondary yet and when they go to check their application status it says the national app is not yet received but the supplemental has been received? obviously they got my primary so idky it says that

They really are just hanging us RD people up to dry. Still no secondary payment, but now the EDs are getting interviews :cryi:

Well they do have to sort ED out before starting the RD process, considering ED is such a short time period, and also to give ED people enough time to reapply in the cycle if placed on hold. I'm sure RD secondaries will come soon though, you got this! Chama!
