Possible spoiler for UNLV folks - the Certiphi background request came in hours before my call. I didn't think anything of it because I figured it was for another school. So for those waiting next month's call... the email might post before the call!

Admin confirmed below this shouldn't happen!

I got that too last month but I didn’t get the call today

Thank you for the information. Our system should not release an admitted code status to AMCAS (which Certiphi begins picking up in January from schools across the country) until after the phone call is completed with the applicant. Our system should only transmit the code after we activate the offer letter, which occurs upon completion of the call. I will have our technicians check our software flow to make sure this is correct. We take great care in our process in order to mitigate stress for applicants, and we definitely don't want to cause additional confusion.

Hi when can applicants that interviewed mid January expect to be reviewed by the admissions committee in their monthly meetings?

Hello Again - Our software vendor has confirmed that we do not transmit an admit code to AMCAS until after our phone call is made and the decision letter released electronically. After further research, it appears that all active AMCAS applicants may be contacted by Certiphi in January when this function opens, regardless of status. Upon admission, a completed report can then be cleared to go to the school who has offered you admissions. For more information, please visit: Criminal Background Check Service

Mid January interviewees will be split between the February meeting and the March meeting due to the interview dates prior to mid-January. Committee sees approximately 50 new applicants per meeting (plus those who have rolled from previous meetings).

Should I be concerned? I am an active AMCAS applicant who interviewed in September. I haven't gotten an email from Certiphi yet. Are they still sending out the emails?

You guys are amazing and doing an incredible job keeping everyone up to date in this forum. I thought it was a bit odd but this school was the only one I interviewed with that uses Certiphi. Thank you for clarifying the situation!

Hi Everyone! We were able to make calls today and have now completed them for February.

Committee will be filling the rest of our seats in March, and we'll be making calls after that meeting.

In early April, the committee will then meet again to make decisions regarding waitlist opportunities. We will notify candidates at that time by email to relay decisions of decline or the opportunity to join the waitlist.

Interviewed candidates who are declined in April will receive information on how to request feedback, if they are considering reapplication in a future cycle.

Waitlist season runs late April and through all of May. We do continue to call candidates to offer admissions during this period. There is no set schedule for waitlist admit offerings; calls are made as seats open. (We also do not release the order or ranking of waitlist candidates.)

We close our cohort at the start of June. At that time, any waitlist members who are not admitted will get an email to confirm the end of the cycle and they can also request feedback for future reapplication.

Admission Selection Process and Timeline

If we can answer any additional questions, please don't hesitate to email us at [email protected]

Thank you for the update and detailed explanation! Were mid January interviewees reviewed during the February meeting?

@UNLV Admin 2 hi there! Is there a date set for this month when the final calls will be made before WL and Rs are sent out? Thank you so much!
March calls should be happening on March 28th. Email notifications with final decisions or waitlist offers should go out no later than Tuesday, April 15th (probably earlier).

Thank you so much!
We do also want everyone to know that CYMS is open and happening for admits, so even in the period between the March calls and April notifications, if we have seats open due to withdrawal, we'll make admissions calls as needed. (We are already seeing a few withdrawals, so the final decision season has begun.) The big waitlist period in May, we simply make calls as seats open. Hope that helps!

Hello Everyone! We have finished making calls today. Next steps for those who interviewed is that committee is now looking over everyone left to determine waitlist offers and then final rejection notifications for the cycle. Both of those statuses will be communicated by email no later than April 14th (probably sooner).

Similarly, we are already seeing withdrawals from multi-accepts and will actively continue calls as seats open. The bulk of our open seat movement does happen in May after the CYMS deadline for admits to hold only one acceptance.

For those who interviewed and are not admitted (both those who are rejected in April or those who do not make it off waitlist by June 1 when we close the cohort) your email will contain a link to receive written feedback, if you are considering reapplication to our school.

We know that today may be difficult for those who have yet to receive a call, but please know there's still time to go. Please take care and have a good weekend ahead.

@UNLV Admin 2 Will accepted applicants only be awarded merit/need-based scholarships after they CTE/PTE? or can these be awarded prior? Thanks in advance!

All admitted applicants are considered for scholarships upon submitting their scholarship application in the Onboarding Portal. CYMS supplies CTE/PTE details later now to schools, so it's no longer required for scholarship consideration as it creates too much of a time gap, especially with estimated aid packaging being released prior to Second Look.

Hello Everyone - we have released notifications for waitlist invitation and notifications for rejection to those who were still with committee and awaiting a decision. If you did not receive notification but were expecting one, please email us at [email protected] and we can confirm if there were any issues with our system release of your status. All notification were sent by email today.

Thank you for the update. It is brutal to wait 7 months after an interview and then get rejected. This rough.

Newsflash!

Dean of UNLV Kerkorian School of Medicine resigns effective 04/18/2025. I wonder what this means for the school. Abrupt resignations with vague platitudes usually means there is more to the story.

Will prospective students be scared off by this unanticipated occurrence? Time will tell.

Can someone in admissions please clarify?

@UNLV Admin 2 will this affect the incoming class in any way?

Great question and thanks for posting it. It will not effect our current or future students. We already have an Interim Dean named and all of our leadership in our MD educational program remains in place. For additional information on our Interim Dean who has served Nevada as an MD for many years, please visit Dr. Alison Netski named interim dean at UNLV's medical school

Dr. Netski's bio is also available here: Alison Netski, MD
