OOS A call at 10:42 EST!!! Went here for undergrad so this made me very happy 🙂) It was such a nice surprise to hear today since I interviewed 9/25 and they told us not to expect anything until after 10/15!

Received the "under active consideration" email today. Definitely disappointing as this is my #1 school. Wondering what the odds of getting an acceptance would be from this point or if this is more of a soft rejection. Also any advice while sitting in this limbo period?

Me too 🙁 . I'm wondering the same. I was really not expecting it because I have ties to the state through undergrad and am very familiar with the SOM.

Congratulations! I have my interview next month, any advice for another OOS applicant?
Just be confident in your "Why USC" statement and show them you are well-informed about the school. As an OOS applicant, make sure you make it clear why you want to serve in South Carolina specifically! Overall, the interviewers were extremely nice and it really was more of a conversation than anything. The faculty genuinely seemed so nice.

Got it. Thank you and congrats again!

Any accepted applicants could you please let me know if we are supposed to complete the immunization requirements with in a month?

that's what the email says, so I believe so yes
Have you all received the follow-up email regarding immunizations since being accepted? I saw in the initial acceptance email that we are supposed to get more information on that, but I have yet to receive that email with the immunization requirements

In similar boat as an OOS. Let me know if you hear anything about their typical WL movement

IS II today, secondary completed 10/07. The earliest interview date was Jan 8th 😕
Stats: MCAT 504, sGPA 3.76, total GPA 3.82. I think my writing was good, worried about getting WL given a low MCAT and especially given the late interview.

You'll do great! If they sent you an II, then they are willing to look past your lower MCAT. Good luck!

OOS II! Close ties (went to USC Columbia for college). Submitted secondary 9/1. Earliest interview date is in Feb :/

Is anyone else getting an "internal server error" when trying to select an interview slot?

For those who already interviewed, did you sign the Web Interview Agreement beforehand or do they have you do it during the interview day? Wasn't sure since email said to sign it "on your interview day" to access the links

You can do it before. Otherwise you won't be able to see who your interviewers will be ahead of time.

Does anyone know what "Active consideration" entails? Do they actually look at your application during each round or is it a step above the waitlist and they look at your application in March/April instead of April/May?

They look back at your application during each round. It is basically the unofficial waitlist until the official one forms in April. If you don’t get off of “Active Consideration” by April, chances are they will offer you a spot on the waitlist.

for those who attended the open house, I wanted to clarify some questions that were asked:

- is USC regular P/F for the first two years and then graded for clerkship years?
- to my understanding, attendance is mandatory for the first semester and then after that only certain lectures are mandatory?
- is the business casual dress code for all four years or just the first semester ?

I know these questions were answered at the open house but I’m looking back at my poorly written notes and was hoping to get some clarification!

I could have sworn I remember during my interview OOS students having the opportunity to establish SC residency after the first year. Can anyone provide clarification on this or what all goes into it?

As a current M1, I'll try my best to answer this.

1. Yes. And the first year, it's a points system so you can fail an exam and it's 100% okay. You just have a passing grade at the end of the semester. If you fail a module, the anatomy professor will offer extra tutoring sessions, which will be available for you for the rest of the semester, even if you pass the next modules. However, if you get a 70 in the module instead of a 69, she will not let you in. You have to fail it.
2. All anatomy/histology/embryology classes are required in the first semester. I will say that most people enjoy them being required, me included. The "How to be a doctor class" lectures are mandatory 70% of the time. The stats lectures have 3 required lectures. The M2's tell us that there are not that many required classes second semester, but there are a lot more in M2 year (Although still less than the M1 first semester).
3. Technically it's called "Smart casual" and we just found out last week that it's mandatory for second semester. Most of the class is pretty bummed about it, so we'll see if there's somehow enough push-back to stop it or if the teachers next semester will even care. A plain t-shirt (has to be plain, no words/no designs/no nothing) and khaki shorts fit the bill for class under smart casual but would not fit under business casual, for example. There will also be days you have to dress business professional for lecture. This will be when physicians come and speak or any time you have to deal with standardized patients.

You’re correct. This is from an email I received from the schools residency registrar (sorry for the format - I’m on my phone):

“Documents Needed:
SC License
SC Vehicle Registration
SC1040 State Income Taxes
Lease Agreement/Closing Documents

All of these documents must meet a 12-month maturation period prior to the start of the semester the student is requesting residency for. For example, the first day of class for Fall 2026 is August 18, 2026, so all documents would need to have been dated August 17, 2025, or prior, in order to qualify.

These documents are requested from the parent(s) unless a student is trying to be considered independent. If a student wishes to be independent, they must meet the below requirements:

Cannot be claimed on taxes
Must have their own established domicile for 12 consecutive months prior to the start of the semester being requested
Must be financially independent, providing at least 51% of their own support, for 12 consecutive months prior to the start of the semester being requested”

Thank you so so much!! I really appreciate the insights!!
