My friend is applying this cycle. Looks like there are two campuses for this school: Philly and Bethlehem. Does anyone have insight as to which campus:

-Has more competitive admissions?

-Has lower tuition cost (if they aren't the same)?

-Has more research opportunities?

-Matches into more competitive specialties?

-Has a healthier social environment for students?

...etc, etc.

I applied Bethlehem last cycle and it is def more competitive. Both have same tuition. I believe Phili campus would have better research opportunities. I would guess similar match. For social environment, that would depend on the individual. Bethlehem is smaller cohort in a suburb (I think) whereas Phili campus is much more urban. I’d guess the phili campus has more connection with the undergrad/resources.

What I did is look at LKSOM's mission statement listed on their website and highlighted how I embody the traits and have the expereinces needed to fulfill that mission, be a good fit for the school, etc.

When it comes to talking about the specfic campus you are selecting (St. Luke's at Temple), you can look at the website and talk about stuff like the curriculum, progams, location, etc. at that campus.

Yeah, when I was prewriting I mostly focused on the mission statement and how my experiences and traits match it. There's a 2000 character limit, and I wanted to flesh out my reasons properly. I did speak about one or two certain programs reading it again. You can def talk about the curriculum if you want, and how you fit with how Temple teaches, etc.
I don't think there is any super hard and fast rule about what to talk about. I would have talked about the curriculum if I had more space.
 
Maybe it's just me, but all these mission statements seem to be very wordy ways of saying the same thing. We like students who want to learn, are compassionate, like teamwork and treat everyone equally. Some toss in a paragraph about innovation and research.

Exactly... that's why I don't really like focusing on mission statements and values. Instead, I've been identifying my true passions and what I want my future in medicine to look like and what opportunities are available (research, service, etc.) at schools to help me attain that future
 
Has anyone accessed the secondary application yet? I'm a reapplicant and when I log into the supplemental portal from last year, there is a 2025 application now available to edit. Not sure if I should wait to submit until I get an actual email though.
 
No secondary yet. Interesting that the portal is available though. I'd wait until you get an email from Temple.

I want to provide this year's applicants with some more info about the St. Luke's campus:

First, the faculty, staff, and students are extremely warm and welcoming, each and every one. I've heard that Temple Main interviews (particularly the community interviews) can be hit or miss, but all three of my interviews with St. Luke's were amazing.

Some of you may be asking - does St. Luke's take OOS students? The answer is an emphatic YES, and I am one of them. That said, judging by the makeup of the incoming class, they do seem to have a bit of a sweet spot for students from PA and NJ.

Now, I'm going to be real here - if you are looking for some glitzy high-tech school with towering panels of glass, apply to Temple Main. If you'd rather attend a school with a small, tight-knit class in a medium-sized city, St. Luke's is for you.

A big reason I chose to come to St. Luke's was their Second Look Day. We had the opportunity to play pool and chat with current students and they all had nothing but praise for the school. Least stressed med students I've ever met - it was very apparent that the administration makes every effort to support them. You simply can't fake the genuine enthusiam that they had for their school.

Oh, and yes, it's $10,000 less tuition per year because of the St. Luke's scholarship. This should NOT be your sole reason to apply to St. Luke's.

Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Dermatology have all been matched from St. Luke's over the past three years.

Is my understanding correct in that the Philly campus has more research opportunities? I'm interested in St. Luke's b/c it seems more community focused but wondering if research is still done by students there.

Students at St. Luke's do primarily clinical research, but if basic science/wet lab is what you're looking for, St. Luke's students are also able to work with the faculty and facilities in North Philly. Best of both worlds if you're willing to travel!

Admissions seems to be very holistic at St. Luke's, and your app will be read carefully. Service orientation is, overall, a common thread among Temple acceptees to either campus. Early Assurance from local universities requires a minimum MCAT of 509 and cGPA of 3.6, but I'm sure people have gotten in with lower stats through standard admissions. Shoot your shot!
 
OOS +1, unreal that they are requiring another letter for IAs. my premed advisor also served as the head of the honors program and included a statement regarding my IA but I guess they wont accept that. Have to find someone else In the conduct office that'll write one and who knows when they'll get around to that

Early Assurance from local universities requires a minimum MCAT of 509 and cGPA of 3.6, but I'm sure people have gotten in with lower stats through standard admissions. Shoot your shot!

i heard that a lot of the St. Luke's classes are online only and streamed from main campus... is that true?

I don't think so, they say that you are taught by faculty at St. Luke's. They also have some lecture halls there

Anyone investigated the COVID question at all?

It is not an optional question/ has no instructions.

Obviously, all of our lives were impacted by COVID but seems like other schools only want to know if it really changed your life/journey toward medicine.

Anyone talked to/heard anything from admissions people?
 
how do you know if your application was submitted? I did not receive a submitted email, and when I completed the payment, there was nothing that showed up after. I do not see a status area of the app. Did anyone receive a email?
