was only asked 2-3 questions! know your application well!

Hi Everyone,

I am a current student at TUCOM. I joined this thread to post about a weekly Q&A session hosted by our Admissions Committee Chair, Senior Admissions Counselor, and a student representative. It's a great way to learn about the school, student life, and the career path.

The meeting is called Touro Talks, and should be back on the website's event page next week. You can use the link below to register for the meeting, which is held on Friday's from 12-1pm PST.

I'd suggest joining for your questions, but here's my quick two cents! (I don't usually browse SDN)
  • How easy is it to get involved in diabetes research? That’s my main area of interest
    • Diabetes and metabolism are highlighted in our research department. Getting involved is usually easy, just reach out to the faculty that run the labs. IMO, much easier to get involved as opposed to how it was in undergrad!
  • When do incoming students sort out housing matters? (Taking over lease etc)
    • Leases are usually up in May/June, most people move in and set up in Summer. You just want to be squared away before orientation.
  • What’s the parking situation like on campus?
    • Parking is all over. Though it is a bit tighter with the recent class size increase, you can still easily find parking. You can walk across campus within 10 mins easily.
  • Is there some sort of guide shared by students on how to survive each year of med school, tips, etc?
    • Theres a really open door policy with faculty, and students are very collaborative. Second years are very open to sharing resources, advice, study guides, etc with the first years.
  • Also please correct me if I’m wrong: From what I understand Touro CA is an average osteopathic med school. I don’t mean this in a bad way, but more so like “I know if I can survive this program I’ll be able to match” etc. Even as an admitted student I still haven’t been able to find something about Touro that absolutely amazes me - other than that there’s a good chance I’ll place in CA for residency. I talked to one recent alum and it seems like this sentiment is not unique. But I would like to hear from more people.
    • Come to Touro Talks and ask what makes touro unique to those who work and study there!
Whoops, sorry! I'm not sure if the link was included in my post. Including it below - register for touro talks here. I just checked, and it is also live on the events page for the TUCOM website. Best of luck everyone!

And another good general link about Touro:

Does anyone know when we must give our vaccination records or if there is some other deadline to meet for accepted students?

Anyone from the 3/3 interview hear back yet? They mentioned decisions would be released today but I didn't get any emails/calls yet...

Interviewed 2/24 and anxiously refreshing my email today 🥲

Interview 2/24 and WL 3/7… I fear my next DO interview is also for a WL spot 🥲

do you have any recommendations for those on the waitlist? should we send update letters as soon as it opens in april?
yup if you have stuff to update (like something significant). if not i would wait until you do. the wl will move all the way until the day before orientation til end of july.

does anyone know where rotation sites are?
There are different regions:
North Bay (vacaville, napa, fairfield, santa rosa)
Salinas
Sacramento/Stockton
Central Valley (fresno and bakersfield)
SoCal (Palm Springs and panorama city)
New York

Hello! Are there any current students who would be willing to give me a campus tour on Sat 4/19 or Sun 4/20? Willing to pay, PM me - I just want to get an authentic view of the school and know what all the buildings are/where classes are/what housing looks like, etc.

Congrats on the interview! You'll do great. I was really scared about the group interview so my biggest advice is to just mentally prepare yourself for having to give more personal answers in front of other people. As long as you don't let that part scare you off, it is totally fine and everyone is so nice. Good luck!
