Does anyone know if this institution accept degrees older than 5 years old? I checked on their website but was unable to find anything.

For question 5, would we say no if we worked as a CNA but it wasn't financially required? I am a little confused by the wording.

Yeah I'd probably leave the CNA out unless you needed a job to finance yourself. I think it'd be different if you needed a job and got the CNA one to pay for your living expenses while also getting clinical experience

For question #6, do you guys think I could write about growing up as a Jehovah's Witness? Or should I make this a diversity prompt since I am URM?

Did anyone who submitted early write over 500 characters for their Why UCF Essay? I wrote more than that and submitted 7/4 and it went through, but now on the portal it says "Character Limit 500" so I was unsure if it changed or my app glitched through haha

I definitely wrote over 500 characters, so I’m guessing I’m in the same boat

this might be a dumb question but i am stationed for work in an area that has no cell service or wifi within 30 min. how big of a deal is it if i can’t receive a call if i were to get an II?

I submitted on 7/8 and I swear I only had a 250 character limit and it did not let me add more than that. I was able to write literally one sentence. It now says there is a 500 character limit. I wish I had taken a screenshot.

Yes literally clickbait. does anyone know if this is significant since it’s in person or does it not really mean anything
They said it wouldn't count towards your admissions. I really hope it doesn't because I can't make it but hopefully someone in here can and just relay everything they learned.

Seeking advice here. Ucf vs usf, which one takes less time on essays? I need quickly knock it out

It really depends on what you already have pre written. UCF has a 4000 character one so that can be a beast unless you already have something that can fit in there from another school (like UCSD)

Oh, didn’t apply ucsd . So I am gonna start with usf then

just a general question: for a 4000 charater essay, can we write 80% of 4000? or 85%, 90%, 95%? As always, quality is more important than quantity.

Yes, of course. Quality writing will be better than rambling on just to hit a character count.

Did anyone else OOS get that jumpscare for the open house

Correct...quality>quantity. The longest essays don't necessarily mean the best ones. We are looking for a genuine response to the prompt, not to see who can max out the 4000 characters.

Is this school a huge stat fiend
I would say we consider, interview and accept a wide range of metrics. However, you do need to demonstrate through your academic performance in college as well as your MCAT (test taking abilities...those don't go away in medical school, residency, licensure, etc.) that you can handle the rigors of medical school.

Attendance has no impact on your chances of interviewing. We simply want to give an opportunity to those from outside the state to see our facility as we find the in-person visit has made a very positive impact on applicant's decisions down the line.

Thank you, @LaurelePoole, for taking the time to answer questions here.

I was at an info session for another school last week and was disappointed when their Director consistently disparaged SDN. Although applicants may sometimes encounter misinformation and worry on forums, I believe they can also help applicants find community and learn from individuals that they would never meet otherwise. So, thank you meeting people where they are at, and helping to build up community vs. bringing it down.
In their defense it is extra work (beyond the emails and calls we already field), but I know there can be confusion here so I do try to pop on periodically to help squash rumors and calm some fears. Totally understandable applicants would want to bounce ideas and situations off each other, so in that way these forums can be helpful as long as the right info is shared 🙂.

While you are here, do you know anything about the change in character count for some of the secondary essays? I quoted the post about it below. I know for my application it did not specify or limit my writing, so I was just wondering if you have seen or heard about this? I for sure wrote over 500 characters when I submitted lol. Thank you ahead of time!!

Yes and I had a 250 character limit for my Why UCF essay which seemed odd.

I didn't see anyone say anything but +OOS II Thursday! So crazy to me because I have no ties. Submitted 2 weeks after opening. So excited.

+1 OOS Open house interview?
They really got me with that one. Not an interview, but an invitation to tour the facility for OOS students.
"This is a purely informative experience, and will not impact your admissions standing."

What a waste of time.

I'm stationed internationally and I received an email! Didn't even check to see if I had a missed call; US numbers can't normally call me. Sad I didn't get to talk to anyone though!
