cGPA = 3.31
sGPA = 3.17 (this is MD not DO) with DO scaling = 3.33
Graduated in 2013

Employment: (Current - Past):

Current: a health devices research company (3 years) possibly going to get journal publication on one study
Current: tutor ( 1 year) SAT Math
Past: Doctor's assistant (Co-op program): essentially shadowed/assisted a physiatrist
Past: Biomedical Engineer (Co-op program): went abroad to Gambia to repair medical equipment, locally worked with CHOP and Good Shepherd hospital on two different projects
Past: Biomedical Engineer (Co-op program): worked in a hospital in Italy doing research on patients with symptomatic ataxia. No publication

Shadowing:
Shadowed the physiatrist for 6 months
Shadowed a DO neurologist twice for two days in total
Shadowed an orthopedic surgeon for a day (by far the coolest experience I've ever had)

Volunteer work:
at a hospital ER for over 100 hours
at a hospital surgical reception area for over 100 hours

Leadership (EC's)
Founder/President for 4 years of a biomedical engineer focused group in sending students to Africa to repair medical equipment/ assist locally with projects and outreach for the medically ill
Committee member for 4 years of the biomedical engineering student advisory board

For MD it may be worth applying to the SUNY's and schools such as New York Medical College, Albany, CUNY (new school), Quinnipiac, Oakland Beaumont,
Western Michigan and any new schools that open in 2017 (Roseman, Seton Hall, Henricopolis, etc.). Your chances are much better for DO though.
 
You've got a decent chance depending on what kind of grade trend you have. I had a similar situation this cycle with higher MCAT and a low GPA due to poor freshman year but with strong and sustained upward trend. In the end, I got in several places. TCMC is worth a shot if you like staying in the NE region.
