Hi everyone. Finally decided to join instead of just stalking anonymously...

There are a couple of things I've been wondering about:

1. Does anyone know when we should hear back from Harvard (I've applied to the SM program in Global Health)? I seem to recall hearing that it would be late Feb-early March, but I can't seem to find that info again (and I'm really hoping I don't have to wait until early March!!).

2. Until I hear back from Harvard, the options I am deciding between are Hopkins (MSPH in International Health, Health Systems) and Emory (MPH in Global Health). Does anyone have any feedback that could be helpful in my decision?

You know I completely agree with you!!!!!! I just left home on Sunday to fly down to my mom's and go visit Tulane and Emory with her. I'm one of those people who's food doesn't come at a restaurant until I get up to go to the restroom, so I'm pretty sure that decisions will come out this week since I'm not there to get them.

Wharton, I just had lunch with one of my close friends who was in the Peace Corps with me, she applied just a few weeks after I did and hasn't gotten an acceptance from any of her schools either! I would be completely shocked out of my gourd if she didn't get in, so I wouldn't stress too much yet, so many schools drag their feet until March-ish! Good luck!

So Friday I checked on OPUS and it had a rejection letter, but today I got an email from Emory that my app was sent to my second choice department. Now I'm confused. Will I get a decision letter from each department or only a final one? I wanted to call Emory but when I got it I was already back from lunch and didn't get off work until they were already closed. Any help would be appreciated 🙂

About Harvard,they send in the decisions by mid March max....If they think you are a really good fit, you might hear in February itself

But seriously, I am now entering week 4, from the date of my e-mail that the adcom has my application, for BU (which I now know is likely going to take longer than I thought), GWU, and likely Tulane. I am also checking OPUS like a freak. I haven't gotten an acceptance yet, and while I know it's only early Feb, I am terrified I am not going to get in anywhere. Swaffles, I totally hear you on needing to step away from my computer and this forum. Since I learned of this forum, I read it obsessively.

Hi rachelbds, I applied to UT-Houston for epi MPH. Unfortunately I was super late and only just e-submitted my app to them a couple of weeks ago, so naturally I haven't heard anything yet. So you haven't heard anything? Not even a confirmation email that they received your app? Their FAQ says something about sending a username and password to check the status on UTLINK but I guess that's just for certificate applicants? 😕

for those who applied to UT -- i actually did apply, sophas submitted my stuff on 1/14 and they emailed me around last week asking me to submit a supplemental app form (they sent me a pdf file that i had to fill out and send back)

and i actually just called them earlier today - i was told i'd find out in 4-6 weeks, maybe earlier, pretty generic answer, but it's really just a waiting game now🙁

Info courtesy a friend and RA at HSPH - decisions will most likely be emailed the first Friday in March and ditto what Vienna4 said about notifying certain applicants about a week earlier.

Aww I didn't mean to upset 🙁 I just checked your stats--you applied to many big names, and looking at the admissions threads from last year, it seems that most ppl didn't start to hear back until March (and you confirm for Columbia). When did you send out your apps? My SOPHAS was verified Dec 8th but I didn't submit my personal statements for most schools until the end of December. For Emory, I got an e-mail confirming my app was received on Jan 7th and was assigned OPUS around that time, and I heard back via e-mail last Monday. For Yale, Jan 5th I received an e-mail saying my app was complete, and that I would hear back in due time, and I received the said small envelope today. I remember trying to send Yale my most updated fall marks in Jan, and they actually said they didn't want it, so on the transcript they have, my cumulative GPA was 3.3 and they didn't see my most recent coursework, which were more relevant to public health and less molecular bio. They also said they look at the coursework I have completed and less at GPA. I dont know how much help this is to you, but I certainly hope it brings you some comfort! Be patient! Good news will come! 🙂

I found out recently that I got into UW and Emory and those two are my top choices, so I won't be considering UPitt. It's still a good school, I just feel UW or Emory would be a better fit for me.

I can't speak to last year - but I got an acceptance to UNC's HBHE on Feb 1.

Also - for all the Columbia ppl out there with application incomplete status, when I called last week, the woman that I spoke with said that it was a glitch and that my application had already been reviewed and I should hear sometime this week. She did fix the status on the computer, and now mine reads application complete.

I just checked my application online. And then right under the "Submission Status" it said "a decision has been reached"...and then I clicked on the link at the bottom of the page.

Ah, I applied in December, so there might still be some waiting to do. Good luck though, and congrats on UNC!

Also, for others waiting on UNC, specifically HBHE, I have talked to one current student in the HBHE MPH program and one in the MSPH to PhD program and both of them heard back in April last year, though they said some of their classmates found out sooner.

Have more info from Mailman. I emailed Betsey, on the of the admissions officers, to make sure I would hear back in time to respond to nursing schools and she replied:

"Decision letters will go out via email starting in the next couple of weeks. We hope to have all decisions out by the end of March."

So, it sounds like they're starting to review and will roll out the decisions once they make them.

Has anyone applied to UMass Amherst? I was recently informed that my application is incomplete because i need to complete a supplemental application. Their deadline is Feb 1st and they will be sending me directions on how to complete this application in the next couple of weeks? Has anyone else experienced this or know what the supplemental application requires??

(Nor is it on the UMass site but I have had some trouble navigating that one so if it is there then I am a complete bonehead) Kind of upset they can through hidden fees this late in this process. Hey guys! I think I might be the first Emory rejection posted. Last night OPUS said I was rejected from my second choice program....oddly I never received anything about my app being forwarded to the second choice program, but oh well. I didn't have a third choice. I'm really holding out for good news from Columbia, but right now I'm not feeling too good about that.

Just in case anyone else has been as confused as me by OPUS....I called Rollins today to ask if I was totally rejected and they said that they post a decision letter for each department so I should find out from my second choice department in another 4 to 6 weeks. Not much consolation, but better than nothing. 🙂

Yes, I had to submit a supplemental application and fee. I wasn't aware of this until AFTER i had submitted my SOPHAS application. They do state it on SOPHAS under the school profile page but I somehow missed it. Also the supplemental application link on SOPHAS wasn't active until sometime in January. If i had known that there was an additional fee than I wouldn't have applied there. oh well.

HealthEdu- It has happened to other people this year. The e-mails are sent by the department and OPUS (not updated by the departments) is not always keeping up with the decisions.

Hey y'all. I've been lurking for a little while, so I figured I'd post where I'm at so far. My application was last minute as well (sent 1/10), and I've been waiting to hear about what few spots they probably have left at this point. My first choice is UPitt's IDM program, which (lucky for me) extended the deadline. My application isn't as strong as I'd like, but I'm currently a female at a military school, so I'm hoping to ride that demographic a little bit. 🙂

Major: Psychology, w/ Bio minor
GPA: 3.51
GRE: 1100 w/ 5.0
Experience: nothing too applicable (I'm sure this is hurting my app a lot)
Submitted to SOPHAS: 12/23
Mailed: 1/10
Applied: UPitt (IDM+Disaster Response Cert), Texas (Epi; my in-state school), St. Louis (Biosecurity), and Tulane (Epi)

SOPHAS also received by transcript for AU today. So another couple weeks for that to even get to the schools. I just want my decisions. Does anyone know if the schools will be told to wait on updated GPA's from SOPHAS, or will they just go ahead? I don't want to get bumped to the end of the line just for a slight GPA increase.

Waiting to hear about everything. My school is tiny and has next to no health-related anything, so there are no other MPH applicants near me who feel my pain. 🙁 The only other people I know applying to grad school are going for psych programs, and their deadlines aren't until March and April! 😱
