Alabama Schools Thread Part 2!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those of you that have interviewed at UAB...how long did your status say "campus choices received?" In my ongoing overanalyzation of everything med school, I think my status not changing may mean something...in a bad way...🙁

Mine's been that way since October.

...and mine still says "Interview Complete: Remain Under Consideration" even though I submitted my campus choice.

Mine stayed that way for two weeks and then I got accepted. All that means is that you are being considered for admission, that my friend is never a bad thing. I know the wait is excruciatingly painful but all one can do is hang in there. Good luck!

So in an unrelated topic while we're sitting around this Sunday, did any of you Alabama residents see snow today? It was in the 70s yesterday, and snowed today. Too strange.

Snowfall started around 2AM and accumulated up until maybe 11AM today - about an inch where I live.

It snowed pretty hard here in Tuscaloosa up until about 11. I made a snowman.

We actually got about 3 or 4 inches here in Auburn, first time that has happened in 10 years.

For any Alabama residents who are planning on applying/re-applying to medical school next year consider applying to the Alabama Medical Education Consortium. http://www.amec.uwa.edu/. This is a fantastic program thats really doing alot to alleviate the physician shortage in this state. Unfortunately, there are not enough pre-meds in the state who know about this program.

yeah it snowed... and most of it melted by 2pm. It actually turned out to be a pretty nice day.

I am new to this thread, I have a quick status question. I am an OOS student, and have the status "remain under consideration for interview" 🙁. Is this something to worry about? and how long does it take to get off of that boat? I'm a little freaked out at this point :scared:. Any opinions on the matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙂

are you waiting to hear from UAB? if so, they only have 2 more interview days so you might want to call and ask about your application.

for those that have received acceptances for UAB, did you hear back through email or snail mail?

It's email followed by an official letter. (info from friends, not experience)

yeah email to notify and then an official letter with your campus assignment in the snailmail.

Anyone hear anything from UASOM in the last week / week-and-a-half? The waiting really annoying.

I guess next Friday there has to be something in the form of yes/no/waitlist.

That isn't really true. UAB claims that they will let you know after March 15 but that doesn't mean it will happen. Case in point: When I applied two years ago I didn't hear anything until I called and asked in mid-April.

Were you rejected or waitlisted that year? I know that last year, when I was flat out rejected I found out on March 24th, and most people who were accepted found out between the second and third week of March. Now on the other hand, a lot of people who were waitlisted didn't find out until around April 1 - April 15th. According to this years "Guidelines" though, final committee decisions will be made by April 1st. I'm guessing (and hoping) we'll find something out between next Friday and the 3rd of April.

Bumpity, bump. Well I'm guessing for those who are still waiting to hear from South (raises hand) if we don't get an invite tomorrow, or Friday, we can start to look for that little white envelope in the mail. The past three or four weeks, invites have gone out on Thursdays, so maybe we'll get some love tomorrow. For UAB, I'm getting really anxious. Hard to believe, we should know something in the next two weeks!!!

Good luck for everyone waiting on South! I loved it.

When this is all over, I say we all should meet up and grab a beer either to celebrate or cry.

Can I ask a really stupid question? What does Bump mean? I've been on here for a while and I still don't know...I've been hoping I would learn the meaning in context of how it is used, but alas I am clueless 😳

It means "bumping" the thread back to the top of the page. 😛

I'm up for a beer anytime. Crying and celebrating are good enough reasons for me, haha. Has anyone on here done a post-rejection feedback interview at either UAB or South? How does that work? Do you meet face to face, or is it over the phone or email? Do you actually talk to the dean of admissions, or is it a secretary or something? I'm just curious in case I have to go through this crap again.

I met with Dean Smith two years ago at UAB to have a post-rejection interview but they also do phone interviews and Dean Smith has always been cool and responsive to my emails.

Alright...I haven't had anything to say/ask on this thread for awhile now besides "no I haven't heard anything" or "has anyone heard anything?" I'm going to take the opportunity to share my current mental demon:

I interviewed with UAB in early January. I had a blast and it seemed like my interviewers responded positively. Shortly after the interview I prioritized my campus choices, after which time my status changed to (and has remained) "Campus Choices Received."

In early February Dean Smith emailed me to request that I furnish proof of my Alabama residency (I moved here from MS in 2006) because my legal residence came under question when it was being discussed. I submitted the application the next day, and I have every confidence that I will be considered a resident for tuition/admissions purposes. I currently work for the state government and was an in-state tuition fellow during my graduate program.

In late February I emailed the office to follow-up on my residency status and was told by the program manager that my in-state residency application had been received and was scheduled to be reviewed by the committee last week. I was also told that I'd receive written notification of the decision once it is made. I still haven't heard anything.

So, does anyone have any feedback on this series of events? Should I be worried, cautiously optimistic, or simply indifferent?

I think that's reason to at least be cautiously optimistic! They obviously are closely reviewing your file...that's got to be a good thing!

I second kdsims.

It sounds like they are taking a very close look at you.. at that can't be a bad thing.

omg this is killing me....the next few weeks are going to be so miserable...🙁

Well, I just received an interview invite from South.

I would be more excited... but it happens to be during my spring break in which I have already paid for a trip and it is non-refundable.

wow so you got the interview for March 18? that really sucks! and it's in the middle of the week too!

UAB:

There was an AdCom meeting yesterday. One wave of acceptances should be sent out next week. This will be followed by another wave of accept/reject the following week and the waitlist. Hope this helps.

Be excited, we might find out next week!

where did you get that info from?

in any case, that sounds like it could be good news for at least some people.

yeah thanks for letting us all know...

Now the nervous excitement begins.

Has anyone else gotten this email from South? I filed my fafsa earlier, and I was wondering if this is a possible sign of acceptance or just an email everyone gets? Paranoid, I know.
