Any 27-29 MCAT with interviews????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's all about how you present your experiences and how they speak to your overarching 'telos' or narrative. In the end, you're not a bunch of ECs and a few tests scores - you're an individual who has more to offer than a sheet of paper and a 30 minute interview can convey, but that's all you've got.

But I think any adcom has to respect a Cowboy Bebop fan!

Haha, thanks! As they should respect any C.S. Lewis fan. 🙂 The space trilogy is still a favorite of mine. Especially Out of the Silent Planet.

So few people have read them! Most people just think of the Chronicles of Narnia when they think of Lewis fiction, but I really think the space trilogy was his finest fiction.

Congrats to everyone that was accepted! I hope to be in the same boat in the next few months! All my interviews are scheduled for after the 10/15 date, so I won't hear back for awhile. But the fact that I have 5 interviews so far, when I was expecting 1-2, still makes me feel pretty confident about my chances.

Sheesh, that's awesome. Great work!! 😀

I got an allopathic interview invite today -- my first one, so it's great to know I didn't totally blow my AMCAS application somehow haha.

5 II
>3.5 GPA <30 MCAT

Now I'm just looking for an acceptance!
Congrats to those who have made it!

The rest of us still have time! We can do this!

JUST AN UPDATE: I had another interview at Suny Upstate Oct. 3 and I have an interview scheduled Nov. 6 at SUNY Stoney Brook, but I have just received an acceptance to Upstate!!!!!!!!!!!

Long road, but it was worth it. Don't lose hope and keep at it. Dreams do come true 🙂

Yep - 4 interviews! 27Q. Applied to about every school in which I had an interest and that accepted my stats for their cutoff.

Brief update: Accepted MD during first round, notified 10/23/12 by phone. w00t. Still holding at 1 rejection and 2 interviews of 34 applications, including the acceptance, one MD one DO. Talk about a crap shoot process, eh?

Congrats!!! I feel like you applied to a lot of the same schools I did since I see you in a lot of the same threads haha.

I also got accepted to Drexel this weekend (yay!!) with a 29Q and 3.65 cgpa. I have five II (two done, three more to go, but likely cancelling one now that I got into Drexel). This process really is a crap shoot, but this thread should be giving hope to everyone on this forum with a MCAT <30. Good luck to those who haven't heard back yet!

Congrats, that's amazing! I'm so jelly! You must've applied earlier than me. I had a late MCAT. I'm still hopeful, though. I'm just maxing out all of my cards and running out of interview funds. :-(

I applied pretty early (complete at most schools late July) since I was worried about my MCAT score holding me back. I lucked out with Drexel - I got the secondary early August with the first batch and had it in within 24 hours 🙂

I am with you on the credit cards 🙁 I don't think I've ever maxed out my cards so many months in a row.

Yeah, it's pretty scary. I once had a card with a huge ceiling and let it get out of control. I eventually paid it off; but now I'm getting worried again. I. Am. So. BROKE!

Just got my first interview invite!! 3.9 27 mcat, reapplicant!

Have any of you guys who have interviewed already been in a position where you felt like you had to explain your not-so-ideal MCAT score to your interviewer? If so, is there a good way to go about explaining things?

I feel like, "I'm not good at doing math in my head/physics" isn't a very good explanation...

i had an interviewer who talked to ME about my mcat, adn I kept waiting for him to stop so i could have a chance to say something, and he just ended the discussion eventually by saying that "we will focus on GPA. It's OK".. and I got accepted there today. haha

Ugh, I hate those questions. What else can you say other than give excuses? I try to dodge the question by saying something along the lines that, after studying quantitative psychology, you realize that most standardized tests fail to adequately survey one's faculties and by nature of being standardized, thus disproportionately affects some students more than others. It's usually pretty effective in creating a tangent.

Man, if I knew it was possible to get accepted with 28Q/3.4-type scores, I would have given it a shot instead of taking a gap year lol oops.

Thats pretty cool haha 🙂 Where was this?

It's possible, but it is more difficult if you were to have better numbers. I think taking a gap year and being a productive is as good as just applying. You'll probably get more interviews and save some money, if you get a job or have a job during that gap year. You don't want to burn out your engine before you reach your destination.

Unlike me, I'm probably going to have a gap year because I don't have any interviews and I'm going to retake the MCAT. However, I've shadowed more doctors and got involved with clinical research. So be productive and you'll be fine. Maybe you'll get into a better school than if you did apply!!

Just received my first II yesterday 🙂 keep the faith everyone! Good luck!

Just an update. I applied in July received 4 interview invites, so far 1 acceptance. I think I may have been waitlisted at one school, because I was expecting a call yesterday (maybe not though).

I canceled the 4th interview in order to save money etc, because the school I was accepted at is either my number 1 or really high up there.

Congrats! How many of those are DO and how many are MD?

They are all MD. I did fill out a DO app, paid like 300$ for a few safety schools, and then was accepted MD so I withdrew all of them.
And ty for the congrats 🙂 it still doesn't really seem "real" to me that I got into med school, I'm extremely happy that I won't have to take a gap year.
Probably won't feel real, until I head to school haha.

First MD interview invite!!!

It's to an in-state public school too for those wanting to know.

So awesome man congrats. Get excited, go out and celebrate!

I've have 4 MD interviews so far this cycle and just got my first acceptance! I wasn't even sure I was going to get one II this cycle. This thread has been awesome giving me hope this cycle. Good luck all!

Congrats brother. Where bouts?

29/3.7. Applied early initially, but didn't get to finish secondaries until mid-late September, early October for most schools due to personal issues. Was about to give up and reapply next year, but am glad I didn't! 🙂 I received good advice from friends, family, and sdn 🙂

Really gave it my all for secondaries and sent a nice update letter to all the schools. I applied only to MD schools.

7 II (3 from in state (FL), 4 out of state). Have attended 4 interviews. 2 ACCEPTANCES! 😀 Waiting to hear back on the last 2 schools I interviewed at.

The 3 other interviews are scheduled for dates in December after finals because I need to focus on school aka pchem!

I really don't think there is anything special about me. Just another asian indian applicant with cookie cutter application. I did work extra hard on secondaries and really try to be honest and frank, even when I thought it could potentially be perceived in a negative way by adcom... I also think my update letter regarding why I submitted secondaries late and what I did this summer (first publication) helped!

MCAT score <27 here. Interviewed early October and accepted this past Tuesday to my #1 school. Non-URM. It is possible.

29 MCAT.
5 interviews with 2 acceptances (all MD)!

Good luck all!
