Any 27-29 MCAT with interviews????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, I was a community service project. 👍

I must be cursed... 36Q 0 invites 6 rejections 17 still alive

aren't you a re-applicant? that might have something to do with it! but dont worry as you say 17 are still alive! dont let the rejections get you down i hope you hear from your other schools soon :luck:

indeed i am a reapp, i suppose we'll see how it goes in the coming months... hard to stay positive with nothing but bad news though

as a longtime reader of these threads, i've seen a bunch of your posts and im surprised that you havent gotten any interviews yet. do you think you have bad letters of rec?

in all likelihood those interviews are coming though.

hope you're right, i doubt i have a problem with my letters... written by my professors and people i volunteered with (MD, community service)... my professors loved me, i still keep in contact with them through email and i was a top student in ochem/genetics/anatomy so i don't see a reason why they would be bad letters, i would hope they aren't generic letters, but i suppose that is a possibility, but like i said these are teachers that i haven't had in over 2 years and yet i still keep in contact with them and even visit them (well at least the ones still teaching at my UG)

I'm sorry for your situation, but glad to know i'm not alone in this boat... ROCK THE BOAT
You have a great MCAT score and a decent GPA. I dont see why you haven't gotten accepted yet. How have your interviews been? Do you interview well? Have you been turning your applications in late? I think you should get in this year. GL!!!!

Just got my first invite. at Penn State
29Q, 3.85
Average extracurriculars

I was referring to the interviews you had in previous cycles. I assumed you had some in the past. Right?

does the caribbean count? lol... got accepted, but i mean... well, it's the caribbean...

0 interviews other than SGU last cycle

wow, just got my third interview to allopathic schools. Didn't think an invite to VCU would be possible when I applied back in July, just took a chance and I got it. OOS

To fellow 27-29 MCaters, don't be discouraged. Because with my mediocre GPA and below-average MCAT, I am having so much success and I don't know why.

28P, sGPA: 3.73 cGPA: 3.77

4 Interviews, 1 Small Pool, 1 Hold, 0 Rejections, 7 others "still alive."

I am a re-app and I'm thrilled with my progress so far this cycle, as last year I had zero interviews at this point. I also retook the MCAT on 9/12 but I guess some schools don't care that I have new scores pending and decided to interview me anyway.

Previous 29P MCAT here

Just wanted to post to let you guys know it's early yet and to keep hope alive. While I know this might not be uplifting, I was put on (I think) 4 or so waitlists and didn't hear anything till late June, early July. I then got 2 invites and had to decide between two schools 🙂. Anyways, the points are, don't be dissapointed if you get waitlisted and, no matter what, it's not over till august. Good luck everyone!👍:luck:

Blah...I guess your subscores also have to be balanced...I scored a 27 on my MCAT (10,5,12)-totally an anomaly/fluke (esp. the verbal)...I'm pretty sure that 5 will screen me out from most places though. However, I did get placed on pre-interview hold for one school...which probably means "we will reject you in march/april" lol. Oh well 🙁🙁🙁

Got my second interview today!

1st MCAT- P:9 B:8 V:10 W:R
2nd MCAT - P:7 B:10 V: 11 W:S

So, 27S highest or 30S composite.

2 interviews (Mercer and MCG, both IS), 2 rejections (WVU and ETSU), 1 hold (VCU, #3 status), 7 still alive!

Keep your chin up. 🙂

Hey--do you mind saying which schools you received invites from?

Yes. I only applied to 5 medical schools with a 4.0 GPA and a 29 MCAT, and I had no problem being accepted.

Keep in mind, however, that other things can count a WHOLE lot more than grades in the selection process.

For example, I worked full time as a CNA all throughout my junior and senior year of college at a nursing home, 2 alzheimer's facilities and an assisted living home.

I also had a research publication, lots of volunteering hours and diverse interests (music, arts).

Make yourself well-rounded and unique, and I promise that you will be just as much rewarded as someone with a very high MCAT score. Grades aren't everything.
Good luck!

good luck guys its good to see some of you doing so well. Keep up hope its still early. I have a 29Q and now 7 invites i never expected any success like this, not from what ive heard and read, especially on sdn but i guess its true numbers arent everything. Hope we all have success🙂

Easy for you to say. You have a 4.0!!

I interviewed at NYU last cycle with a 15.

Crazy....obviously rejected. Not URM, just lucky. Got hounded about it at the interview, though.

Anyone know if most schools take the best scores of each section?

I don't believe that.

i'm not in that mcat range but i posted here becuase i have applied 3 times with 0 interviews... i have finally received my first interview invite (other than SGU)... i'm ecstatic!!!

congrats!!!!! what school was it?

To provide some hope for people with 27s, I just got my third interview invite yesterday from Creighton.

Hey ya'll I just joined SDN, and I will share my story. I applied for the 2008-2009 cycle and was waitlisted. I applied on oct. 15 at 10:00 pm; clearly it wasn't very smart. I reapplied this cycle and received an acceptance letter from an allopathic program on Oct. 16th.

First try
MCAT 26O : PS 8 VR 9 BS 9
sGPA: 3.62
cGPA: 3.67

Applied to 5 MD programs, invited to interviews for one and then was relegated to the spiraling cauldron of death that is the wait list.

Good ECs and LORs

Second try: I applied much earlier than before

MCAT 29M : PS 9 VR 11 BS 9
sGPA 3.61
cGPA 3.59

Applied to 3 allopathic schools and 5 osteopathic schools
I was accepted at my in state institution and am just waiting to hear back from the other schools. It is possible! Dont give up!

3.54 cGPA 290 MCAT (11PS 9 BS 9VR) just got accepted to USUHS. I am a non-trad prior-service navy so I guess that helped. Good luck to the rest of you with the cursed MCAT score of 29. It can be done.

Hang in there guys- last year I was a 27P with a 3.66 GPA and I got 3 interviews and an acceptance by mid November... I pulled my application in November (was only complete in late Sept) from all the other schools I applied to due to an acceptance at my top choice- Texas Tech as an OOS student. I also turned down one of the interviews and withdrew my application from the other school I interviewed at cuz I didn't like it so I don't know how those 2 would have panned out.

I have a 27Q MCAT score and I applied to 17 schools total. I recieved 9 interviews total so far. And one acceptance from Texas tech. ( I am OOS). I thank God everyday. Schools are: Texas Tech, UT Houston, Meharry, U conn, Tufts, U of Arizona (Tucson and Phoenix), U of Iowa, Medical College of Wisconsin, New york medical college. So keep the faith, trust God and anything is possible.

I have a 27Q and I just received my fourth interview invite from U of Central Florida! The others are from Albert Einstein, Drexel, and Creighton. Still waiting on West Virginia post-secondary...

3.4

30 MCAT

Never had an MD interview, this year or last. Applied VERY broadly.

CA Resident. It's tough out there, and good luck to you all!

I have a 28N and received my first interview invite from Wright State last Thursday. I'm an Ohio resident and have a 3.91 overall GPA with average EC's.

Still waiting on my other 5 schools. blehhh 👎

This thread is totally making me wish I could trade in my high MCAT/low GPA combo for a high GPA/low MCAT instead.

Finally got West Virginia's invite last week. That makes 5 interviews with a 27 MCAT so far. Though I did submit AMCAS right when it opened.

congrats! thats awesome and you have some amazing schools 🙂

My retake is a 29...yeah, but balanced.
3.89 GPA

Submitted AMCAS early August.
Complete Mid Sept or Early Oct.
I only applied to MD schools.

4 interviews so far...
1 acceptance.😱

Not a URM. The bar is set high for me, I think.

Motivation and endurance is the key.

Hey everyone! I wanted to give some people hope. I have a high GPA (over 3.75) and a 28 MCAT, and I have 5 interviews. I've been to 4, and have received 2 acceptances. The other 2 have yet to get back to me, but I feel good about them. I have a lot of great ECs, volunteer work, and research at Hopkins, Penn, etc, but no pubs. I know that SDN makes you feel like you need to have a 35 MCAT and a 3.9 gpa to get in, but that isn't the truth. Believe in yourselves, exude confidence at the interviews you do and WILL get, and everything will be great. Best of luck to everyone! 👍
