Anyone hear from Baylor?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Why is it scandalous to partake in the system the rest of the country does?😕
If someone gets into UTSW, they get in to UTSW. I don't see what timing has to do with it.

i'm not complaining...just explaining.

i think the criticism that i heard was that there was very little transparency about how this process was going to function, as the schools were unclear, and it was the first year to use this system. some students were apparently told that utsw would be participating in the match, when in fact, they didn't.

Whoops, sorry, didn't mean to sound accusatory of you at all (I have a tendency to unintentionally shoot the messenger). 🙁

actually UTSW did participate, but no students ended up matching there since the current Southwestern acceptance-holders kept their spots and ranked the school #1 and still left the new class overcapacitated.

it's effectively the same thing as not participating, but the truth is, UTSW sent a list of names to TMDSAS if match was possible

Dear XXXX:

Thank you for maintaining an interest in our medical school. We are continuing to accept students and in approximately two weeks we will form an alternate list for use in deciding on further acceptances.

Sincerely,
Dr. Lloyd M. Michael
Senior Associate Dean of Admissions

I didn't get the email. I wonder if that means I will be getting the thin envelope soon.

No email for me either...Hmm. Oh well. One of my interviewers seemed to hate me (although the other was really nice) so I'll not be surprised.

I felt the same way about my interviews.

guess baylor really doesn't like me. i thought my interview went well. i even got a nice response to my thank you letter from the dean. now, i received no motivational email. sigh.

No email for me either, but I thought both of my interviews went great. <shrug>

Hey now, who said that not getting this e-mail meant a rejection? The e-mail could mean you are getting a rejection, or an acceptance, or a wait-list. Not getting the e-mail could also mean any of the 3 outcomes, so keep up hope! It's not over 'til the fat lady delivers the skinny envelope.

I think getting into Baylor is an impossible task for us OOSers. I think both of us would've gotten in if it weren't for the stupid TX resident percentage they have to maintain...

what's the TX resident % they have to maintain?

edit: i got the email also

I didn't get the email either...maybe the good news is already on it's way. My theory is they wanted to wait until my birthday tomorrow to surprise me 😀

Not to be too much of a downer but getting a letter from BCM w/o a call is probably bad. The dean calls all acceptees.

Happy birthday though!! And maybe you'll get a call, they tend to come on Wednesdays...

If no one from the group that didn't receive the email receives an acceptance this week, I would say it is safe to assume that we have been rejected.

At this point I'd be surprisingly OK with that...

Yeah you're most likely right...but there is the (probably very small) chance that we've been accepted but just not received a call yet.

oh right... i just reread your post and i think we were saying the same thing

Is UTSW concerned about being overfilled when school starts or are they overfilled by a small number?

Someone was explaining to me that Baylor holds the key to almost the entire Texas medical school system, in that many students are holding onto their UTSW acceptances in hopes of getting into Baylor, and many other Texas students are holding onto their acceptances with hopes of getting into UTSW. I suppose I'm beginning to understand te anticipation running throughout this thread...

if no email means a rejection and i see a thin rejection letter in the mail this week, i will immediately tear it to shreds or burn it and then proceed to fume from having to wait months to hear this when they could have easily told me perhaps in february when interviews were done. then i'll have to make the embarassed call to my relatives to say that there is not even the slightest chance that i'll be coming to hang out with them and the twins b/c i have been backhanded by baylor. well at least i will be able to stop glancing at my phone all the time and researching all the different possible houston area codes. then i'll probably tell myself that i didn't want to go to houston anyway and that ill enjoy being in school past noon everyday. it'll be harder than pretending that i'm getting in as this brutal silence has allowed me to think. but at least i have the comfort of being in somewhere great i guess.

btw, apparently the phone number shows up as UNKNOWN...so your area code research won't help you much.

even more time wasted. the research was futile. hahahhaha thanks for the heads up.

I'm almost positive no email = rejection. Why would you not send that email to ppl that you are about to accept/waitlist??? That wouldn't make any sense.

I mean, yeah you're probably right, but how much of what Baylor has done so far has made sense?

Ya that's true. But, if I were on an admissions committee, I wouldn't waste my time being like  Let's send an email to everyone we are going to reject to taunt them a bit.

Just out of curiosity, did people who received the email send an email or call in the last several weeks asking about their status? If so, the return email is nothing to fret about, it's just that... a return email. If you just randomly got it without contacting the admissions office, then something is up. Let's hope for the former as I also didn't receive the email.

I sent 2 emails in the last 3 weeks and I didn't receive any word from BCM.

Maybe Dr. Michaels is still responding to the status update emails he got last October. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll respond to yours by the time you take step 1 of the USMLE.

Hey guys. I just wanted to help you guys feel a little bit better. I'm an OOS applicant to Baylor that was accepted back in December (on a Friday at noon Houston time). My MCAT and GPA are at, or slightly below Baylor's average, my interviews I felt were pretty weak, and I still somehow got in...so don't give up! By the way, I know there will be a bit of movement on the Baylor wait list since me and several other people I know with an acceptance at Baylor are on wait lists ourselves at other schools, holding out for those acceptances. I have a friend at Rice who said she knows a few other people in that situation as well, so don't lose hope! There will probably be a mad scramble the week before May 15th, hehe. 😀

i agree. baylor actually has not assembled a waitlist yet. i just want to make sure everyone doesn't get in a tizzy

:laugh::laugh: Well played.

Here's to hearing good news today! If not me, maybe someone will!

I sent an email to Dr. Michael last week asking about my status. Maybe it is just a letter in response to that.

This whole thing really sucks by the way.

I agree with you on the rejection issue. However, how would Baylor know who they are rejecting if they haven't decided who is on the waitlist?

If only Baylor used LMFUs and had a fin aid page that let us log in to see if we were accepted before receiving notification. That might be the only way to make applying to Baylor even more confusing.

Someone needs to make a sticky explaining all of the generic emails, status updates, and etc. for the future. It could be called "The Rosetta Sticky."

All I am saying is that supposedly we have been on a ranked list since our interview. Since all interviews are done with, they should have this list of everyone in ranked order. So this leads me to believe that they would know who will be accepted, WLed, and rejected already. Probably the only thing they are doing is tying up loose ends like with fin aid and stuff. But, that is all based on the assumption that we are all ranked. If not, well then I don't know what the hell is going on.

it may be completely incorrect, but i think i have heard that no one is rejected outright until classes have started. everyone who has been interviewd is technically waitlisted.

Haha... why??? Didn't someone say earlier that only 8 ppl were let in off the Baylor waitlist last year. I'm pretty sure they don't need to play it that safe by having like 600 ppl on the waitlist or however many they are going to WL.

FCD: "Um... can you tell me what I'm ranked on the WL?"

Baylor: "Well... I'm not supposed to but what the hell. You are ranked... um... let's see... WOW... you are number 537. Good luck!"

FCD: 😱

Just called Baylor right now...
i asked if any general email had been sent out just in case my email had been junked even though i check my junk folder regularly
well..she said...that "no general email had been sent out!" grrrrrrrrrrrr (I know that's not true)
and that everyone will be receiving an email in two weeks
she didn't take my name or look up my file.just said..in two weeks..you'll find out more...but they're still accepting and still have space

i'm mad 😡

If admissions had completed the ranked list like they said they did, then they should have known who would be getting what by the Monday or Tuesday following the final interviews on Friday, Feb. 16. There is no reason for them to not have notified everyone of their status over a month and a half later. I also don't believe that Fin Aid has anything to do with it, as it plays no role in the admissions process.

I didn't get the email so I wouldn't know. But if it was sent directly from Dr. Michael, then it is very probable that the secretaries knew nothing of the email.

Firstly, the email was sent from Dr. Michael's secretary. Secondly, the email has to be in response to those people who have had contact with his office. I sent an email to Dr. Michael using my ku webmail. For my AMCAS and secondary, I gave my AOL email (which should be the email they have for my contact). My email from Dr. Michael was on KU webmail. This proves that the email was only in response to my contact with his office. It has nothing to do with my acceptance/rejection/placement for admission right now.

I don't know... I'm just saying maybe there is some other reason that they haven't given the decisions yet other than Baylor trying to annoy all of us or them not being organized enough to have their decisions yet or umm... them lying to us at our interviews or something... who knows tho.
