Anyone on Temple's CCL list hear anything yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Philly kicks ass. On top of all the things that Philystyl mentioned, it's got a great underground music scene, and lots of cool little clubs to check out independent bands and hip hop acts  .

As for everyone who's been posting their love for Temple, you guys should take exactly what you wrote and paste it into a letter of intent. With the enthusiasm that you guys are showing for Temple, any school would be crazy not to want you guys. If you don't want to send a letter of intent, why not try sending another thank you note to your interviewer and just express what it was that you enjoyed while you where there.

By the way - did anyone else get a kick out of the fact that the basketball court in the basement was carpeted?!?! It still makes me laugh just thinking about it. Guess I'm easily amused

Solid, i pretty much DO wanna go to temple just for that court. that court seems to encompass everything we like about temple. it epitomizes all of those things we like. students playing students, people hanging around after classes ==> collegiality and happy kids. we can get a game of 3 on 3 between us.... The temple med rep and notes take care of the rest of the pie, for me.

i liked that little patrol tower too. all that just for us.... i wanna stand in the middle of all those buildings at 3 am, waving a hundred bucks in my hand, screaming "Freeee Moneeyyyy" and see how many people run at me, before i make it to my car. THAT seems pretty cool to me.

i think i'll send a letter of interest. they wouldn't look down on that would they?--since it's not a letter of intent?

Damn, that b-ball court is carpeted? I did hear one of my tour guides say something like that but I thought he was talking about something else so I stood just outside the door and did not notice. Damn, thats sweet...it will take some of the pressure off my bum ankle.

I guess that b-ball court really was one of the reasons I liked Temple so much.

Anyways, I was thinking, Gower says that this CCL is ranked, do you think that we can find out which category we are in if we call them. One of the tour guides said we can call them to find out which category we are in on the "wait list," but does the CCL also apply. Hell, is the CCL the same thing as the wait-list? I'm so damn confused about that.

I will call them on Friday since I have to still worry about finals and I'm too scared to call while I have finals because I might not get the best news and it will effect how I study...I need to pereserve the 4.0 I worked so damn hard to maintain. If anyone else calls them to find out between now and Friday, let us know...

phllystyl is right. I did get to walk around Center City and Rittenhouse Square, even Chinatown, while I was up there and it was really a nice city. It's lively and busy, like New York. Temple is in a rotten neighborhood because they are serving that community. I think my interviwer told me they spend around 50 million a year to provide free health care to that community. They apparently can do this since they have one of the largest heart transplant centers in the US.

So Philadelphia itself is really a great place, you can't judge Philly by the area around Temple.

The carpeted court mey be good for a bum ankle, but I bet it claims a lot of skinned knees....

Who cares about injuries, though. There's a hospital right across the steet

I received the same email yesterday. Philly reminded me of a smaller NYC. There is no doubt I will enjoy myself there, and being only one hour and half from NY makes it that much better.
I got to say that this poll is getting mad luv. I wish you all the best of luck, hopefully come August we can meet in person.

Philly is a great city and even though I am commuting from the 'burbs, I wish I could move back to Olde City (nowhere near Temple, but still...). I get misty just thinking about Sugar Moms, Upstairs at Nicks, the Tin Angel, the Khyber, FoodTek, damn now I'm bummed out.

SolidGold, you said you interviewed the same day as I did, who were you? I was the large black man! :D

I am sorry if I offended you guys with my observations about Philadelphia. I guess I didn't spend enough time. I did go to Chinatown and the eastern part of the city where there's a lot of historical stuff and shopping places. Other than Chinatown and the areas surrounding universities, I didn't see much diversity beyond whites and blacks. But I guess I need to go back and spend more time. I did like the area around Penn. That was a cool, happening place with a lot of young people. I think the Temple area is not all that bad. I probably wouldn't live there, but I think it's a perfect location for a medical complex. In any case, Temple is such a happy place that I think I'll be very content regardless.

I wish I could write a letter of consent to Temple, but I can't. I already used that for Tufts, my top choice school at the moment. A letter of interest wouldn't hurt.

Where my girls at? Am I the only girl posting here? Screw the B-Ball court, they have an aerobics room upstairs! :D

But I wouldn't mind being a cheerleader for you boys on that lovely carpeted court! :)

Keep the faith everybody - My college roommate was waitlisted (CCL or whatever it's called) at Temple last year and got in in AUGUST about 2 weeks before school started. Ya just never know....

just adding some girlpower for Doctora Foxy. all this Temple happiness is making me happy!
i really liked the people i met on my interview day, and all the doctors i've spoken with in Philly have praised the clinical training. it's supposed to be much more hands-on than other schools with a higher percentage of private patients...
i'm interested in these notes people are talking about? they give you all of the notes online? anyway, yay Temple:)

Anyone know anything more about this? Lots of schools have notes services, if Temple had some type of online note service that would be hella cool

Lets get this back in the mainstream....

Wat up Tori's manbitch. I remember you, I was the dude who took the N. Broad St. Line that morning to get to Temple for the interview and unknowingly got on the express train and missed the Alleghany stop and had to take the south train back. I know you will remember that. Btw, congrats again on your acceptance.

Hey, just out of curiosity, who was your interviewer?

Yeah Gold, I remember you now. Trust me, WHEN you get to Temple, you'll get the Broad St. Line all figured out. I interviewed with Dr. Parks, by the way.

I emailed my interviewer from Temple about some questions I had. He responded by saying that there are seats available at this moment, but that after May 15 I should be getting a letter from the school explaining the entire process. He also made it a point to say that the there is a lot of competition for the remaining seats. Good Luck. These are the words from the devil himself. Personally, I see this as saying it is going to be extremely hard to get in from the CCL.

I think I have just been accepted to Temple University School of Medicine (TUSM); however, I may be wrong. I received a letter yesterday, which was dated April 30, 2002, which invited me to receptions in Southern California. The letter also explains, "...you will have an opportunity to learn more about why Temple is the right choice for you."

I'm a little confused. The second to last correspondence I received from TUSM informed me that I was placed on the "Continuing Candidates" List (CCL) while the last correspondence (dated May 6, 2002) was in the form of an e-mail that requested my contact information and explained that those in the CCL are currently being reviewed. I'm just wondering if the invitation I just received is a sign that I have been accepted or are all applicants-CCL and accepted students-invited to such receptions? I'm not sure what to think. I guess I will just have to wait to call the Admissions Office on a weekday.

By the way, I have no intention of attending TUSM. In fact, I was just about to withdraw my application from the CCL. If I am accepted, my spot will be open to one of you.

Nevertheless, I will let you know if I have been accepted as soon as possible since it will provide information as to whether the CCL is moving. Good luck to all!

I got a similar letter and email several months ago about a reception being held in Florida to entice us to choose Temple. I took it as a hint that I was going to get an interview, and a week later I did. :)

I don't think it means you were accepted though. They are having receptions in areas far away to recruit people. They probably just scheduled the Cali reception a little later than the others. I'll try to find the email I got and post it.

ok I found it, here's the email I received on 2/22/02. I also got a follow up letter included in my interview invitation:

Doctora Foxy, thank you for the information and posting a copy of your letter/e-mail. The letter I received is identical; however, with the exception of the locations.

I guess I jumped the gun in regards to an acceptance. I'm now more determined than ever to withdraw my application!

I actually went to the Reception that I was invited to (in Coral Gables, FL). It really does not give you an edge in any way, but I did get a chance to meet Audrey Uknis and the acting Dean of the Medical school. The only thing that made the reception worth going to was talking to the alumni. This kind of helped me during the interview and my interviewer found it impressive that I learned about the school from alumni as well as current students.

Other than that though, it was kind of a waste of a Friday night because it was gearded toward the alumni so that they could donate money to the new facilities Temple is planning on building in the next few years(apparently the new president of Temple sees a need for a totally new medical school). They did serve nice horderves though.

yo guys, we're fenna be waiting a loooong time to hear from temple. but i think the medical gold guy is wrong about the august movement..i mean didn't someone say that there was lots of movement in June last year? regardless, we's fenna be waiting for a bit longer.

i heard about that alumni gathering. my friend said the food was good but that it was pretty much geared towards alumni, with little to do with applicants (they prolly got applicants to come so they could make the place look more "full"). i don't think it has anything to do with acceptance chances. btw i didn't get an invite, so this is just wishful thinking.

I don't know about that June movement last year. Those threads just mentioned that people received the CCL letter in June. Weird.

I believe that there is movement all summer, after May 15. All I know is that one of my tourguides got accepted in August, 2 weeks before school started. She got a call from Audrey Uknis notifying her. I believe she was a PA resident.

My other tourguide was from Cali, and I'm pretty sure that he said he was accepted in Feb, but I'm not entirely dure.

Yeah, Yeah!! Time to put this joint back in the mainstream.

Remember, Dutchies burn a lot slower than Phillies, so spend the extra change and smoke that sh**.

Damn, for a sec I thought you got off the CCL Blazed...hopefully we all here soon as May 15 is tomorrow.

I hope all you suckahs make it because I think it would be cool to feel the SDN love once school starts (especially yours, Foxy)! 22 days of work left and counting!

Not yet SolidGold, but if I am lucky and I do I will post it right away. Tomorrow seems to be the beginning for us on the CCL. Keep your fingers crossed, go have a drink and chill, because at this point it is out of our hands..Peace

•••••A while back, I looked up posts from a year ago. I seem to recall that, in mid-late June, many CCL people were hearing from Temple as to whether they were gonna be accepted or waitlisted. Then, in July and August, the waitlist movements occurred. I don't think the medicalgold guy was wrong, although I don't know if it's true that most movements occur in August, not July. We must remember that, although CCL is similar to waitlist, it's different. Those are two different stages.

So it is a little different from the typical waitlist situation. Good to hear that, but the movemnet in August keeps u in suspense.

well, i'm getting off the CCL list guys. so here goes one less person plugging up the list....

good luck everyone, especially you Solid. lates.

Yeah Yeah, May 15 the new beginning... Any one has any new info??

bump-please post if you hear anything

Have you sent your address updates? I haven't done it yet.

Well, I just thought I would let you guys know that it won't be until late June before us CCL guys will hear anything. I called the admissions office and was told that the adcom has not started to go through the CCL as of yet and that they will not start until June, decisions by end of June.

The wait is going to kill me, but for now I will have to find peace as I prepare for my Finch interview on Thursday.

BUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone send Temple a letter of interest/intent? I sent mine today, alomg with a major update to my application, so hopefully they will have it before they start looking through the CCL in June.

Hi, this is my first post here. :) I can't believe I never discovered SDN till now (could have used the support, especially these past three months!)

Anyway, you can place me on the list of those going to Temple (as of May 15 when I received my acceptance). Since then I just found out I've received a merit scholarship at MCPH, but I'm pretty sure I'll turn it down. I interviewed at Temple March 5, but there was a holdup with my recs so this was a straight answer and not CCL (sorry).

I can really empathize with those on the CCL - I was born and raised in Canada, and the last two years I applied to my undergrad university for med school only to be placed on the waiting list both times. Those were *not* fun summers, to say the least. Finally I bit the bullet and paid the cost of applying to the States - thank goodness I'm a dual US citizen, or the tuition would be impossible! I seriously thought Temple would also waitlist me as had Creighton (and was already filling out AMCAS 2003 and the Georgetown Special Masters in Physiology app), but I guess someone above decided to finally take pity. :)

In any case, I know waiting's the absolute worse...but hang in there and you *will* be accepted eventually. (((Hugs)))

PS - has anyone been given details on the summer program for URM students? I met with Dr. De la Cadena from RAR and he told me about it. I've taken plenty of bio classes but since I've been out of school for a while, it would probably be good to get back into the mode and review some stuff before it counts!

hey lara,

when did you interview at MCP and when were you accepted?

I interviewed April 15 at MCPH and was accepted just last Friday via email (haven't received anything in paper yet). I hope I can find out what Temple's financial aid offer will be before the two weeks are up for MCPH and I need to give an answer, just to make sure it's decent enough...

I'm very, very grateful and excited about this fall! And I liked Philly well enough. :)

Lara-

When I was heavily considering Temple, their FA office told me that FA packages would not be available until the beginning of June. When I told them I wanted to make a decision about schools so that I would be able to refund my deposits, they previewed my FA forms and said that basically if your parents make >80K/year, that you would not receive any institutional aid.

My friend who is currently a MS-1 there said that she didn't get her FA package until the beginning of August. She has two sisters in college and her parents make <60K/year and she only received a $1000 grant from them. The rest was in Temple and Stafford loans. Her Temple loan was only $2000/year.

Good luck with your decision. Had my number one choice not come through, I would have been happily joining you in Philly.

I will be attending the SERA program which begins on 6/10. Apparently no information will be sent to you until your deposit has been received by the admissions office. In order to attend you must also show proof (i.e. a withdrawal letter )that you have withdrawn from all others schools where you either hold an acceptance or are on a waitlist.

Hey Everyone-

Just a note on Temple Financial Aid packages - I recieved mine last week, so they should be coming around soon.

Great, now all I got to do is get in..... :D  <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

Still sitting a bit, but I know I have to make a final decision *very* soon. It's tough to pass up $10,000/year from MCPHU meaning no Alternative loans, and I did like the school itself. Arrrgh. :) I wish I could have gotten the acceptances earlier to give me a chance to go back to Philly, and see if MCPHU could convince me that years 3-4 would be as good as Temple.

Dra Foxy - eres Boricua? :) My mother's family is from Aguada!

June can't come fast enough. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

I second that solid. And Lara yo soy boricua.

Lara: No soy boricua, pero mi novio es puertorriqueno

Happy almost June 1st!

Any news yet from anyone? :D

Nothing yet, still waiting patiently but I don't know how much longer I can hold it together.

Seems like everything I do goes wrong. First I had transcripts ordered to send out to Temple but there were errors on that and I had to resend those. Plus, I sent my update/letter of interest to them via USPS express mail (next day), but it got lost and never arrived at its destination after about a week and a half. I resent it today. They might not even read it though since they might not add it to my folder at this point in the game, but I hope it does since my other letter to them did end up there and was read by at least my interviewer. Seems like all these are signs that are trying to tell me something, but I still have faith.

I hope we all hear some good news soon. :)

hey lara,

what did you decide? (no pressure--just trying to update my "mcphu countdown" thread. thanks!
