Anyone on Temple's CCL list hear anything yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
CityIvy - good news for you, I've officially withdrawn from MCPHU and will actually be leaving this weekend for SERA (yikes!)

SolidGold - keep the faith! Temple could have easily rejected me after my interview since one of my recommendation letters (from a physician) wasn't acceptable. They sent me an email which I never received, so I found out about the problem a good 4-6 weeks later and had to rush to locate a prof (who were all busy with finals at the university). After that, I totally wasn't expecting an outright acceptance.

Dra. Foxy - esta bien. :) That explains why you had a pic from PR online!

Blazer - cool, and best of luck getting in. I know it's rough.

Any new information from my fellow CCL'ers out there? Come on lets get some positive news here. Solid what about you?

Blazed: Nothing new to report as of now.

I'm sure its still a bit early for us CCL'ers now since it's only June 5, this being the 3rd working day of the month. If what they told me is true about them looking at the CCL in June then I doubt they even met to do that yet, as of today. What day does the committee usually meet anyways, anyone know? I'm really anxious to hear something right now, but I guess I'm not really expecting to hear anything until late June like they told me.

BTW, does anyone know if they have a committee meeting solely for the review of the CCL?

I called yesterday and they said they would be sending out letters to us this month, so it'll just be a little longer....

If it helps, I was under the impression that the committee meetings are once a week on Fridays...

See you Monday ussd! :)

Is Justin from Miami on here?

In any case, I heard from a friend that this guy I know got into Temple from out of state (MD) and is going. I don't think it was from the CCL.

(bump  )

We should be hearing soon...

Foxy: Do you happen to know when that guy you know who got in interviewed?

I have no idea.....

I just faxed my address form to Temple...finally! It only took me a month to do it. I'll call tomorrow to make sure they got it and ask when the movement will be begin. :D

What's up Foxy, did you call Temple and find out when the movement will begin? Hopefully they will start soon.

ok I just called.....I asked when people would start being accepted, and he said by the end of the month. More waiting.....

I also asked if they accept any new information and he said not at all, since files are closed at this time. Looks like they're making final decisions.

I got the same news you did Foxy when I recently called. Really does look like that decisions are being made as we speak. Also looks like my letter of intent was a waste of time since files are closed, but I guess if the Dean of Admissions did read it (since I sent it directly to her) maybe she will keep in the back of her mind when my folder comes up.

I forgot to ask how many people were on the CCL though. Has anyone gotten any indication of how many people are possibly on the CCL? What about any indications about how many seats are available at this time?

I'm on the waitlist at Temple as well.

Not to bring too much doom and gloom to this thread, but I'm not very hopeful about the CCL list.

About a week (maybee a week and half) after I got back from my interview I got the letter telling me I was on the CCL list.

To me that says either.. a) Temple is REALLY efficient b) They just dump everyone into that list.

I'm banking on b), which would mean a very large list with not so many spots open.

I have no knowledge of anything at all, just sharing my thoughts. (isn't against the rules to be pessimistic? if so, sorry :) my policy is always reality before hope)

congratulations ahead of time to everyone who makes it past the CCL list !

Thanks Foxy. Solid I have a feeling that everyone who interviewed and was not accepted out right is on the CCL. The reason why I think this, is because I have yet to see anyone that was rejected post interview. If this is indeed the case then it is going to be a real loooonnnnnggggg shot. That would really suck. Nothing left to do at this point, but chill out and let the cards fall as they may... :p

Yeah...I have the feeling that Temple might put everyone on the CCL who is not accepted right away, but that is only because of the people on SDN. We have to remember that there is around a 1000 or so people who get interviewed at Temple, and there is only about a dozen or two of us here on this thread about the Temple CCL. It could be that people do get outright rejected but we just don't know about it. Just thought I'd bring up another point of view on that.

Also, people do get in off the CCL so there is no need to be so pessimistic really. Just hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.

Urgent Update!!!

I thought I would pass along some important news. It looks like Temple has begun to accept people off the CCL!!

A girl I know was just ACCEPTED today off the CCL. She interviewed in February I believe. She is a Florida resident, a URM with below average MCAT scores and not so hot grades, just in case you are wondering how you might stack up. She was also notified by a telephone call. I thought I would pass this along because I'm sure all of you want to know about this.

I guess this means that all of us should hear really soon, much sooner than we might have expected.

Solid, you were right about the post interview rejections just met a girl today from Jersey who was rejected two months after her interview.. Let me find out that the CCL is moving. That is great man... At least we will know our faith sooner than later, that way we could begin to make plans. Good Luck...

Blazed, it's a little reassuring to know that people do in fact get declined post interview. At least we could now put this debate to rest. I was previously, actually afraid that 600-800 people were on the CCL, but now we know that number is smaller, probably much smaller than we ever imagined, and being on the CCL is actually an accomplishment of sorts.

Looks like some hard facts about the CCL has finally surfaced, anyone else with anything to share? Good luck everyone!

Thats great news ! I just plugged my cellphone into the charger and I'm keeping that sucker by my side for the next few months, hehe :)

Now heres a question that will help us all. Do you know if she was one of the people that calls them, talks with the dean, writes letters every week, etc, etc, etc.. or if she never bugged them at all ?

just spoke to temple and they mentioned all CCL ppl will recieve a mailing at the end of the month. I don't think she meant a it would be a decision, but more like an informational letter explaining their whole system a little better.

I tried to ask my posistion on their list, she said it was ranked but wouldn't release the information to me. lol, oh well i tried

So there is a ranking on that list... Too bad they can not tell you your status over the phone. Lets wait and see where we stand.

markus, I can tell you that she was not one of those that called consistently and wrote letters and updated her folder (maybe this was a good thing). She did call one time that I know of, but other than that she was very passive about the whole application process. In fact, she was ready to take the DAT this summer or possibly enter PT school, she did not think she would ever have the chance to ever get into medical school. She's not really a friend of mine, more like an acquitance and I can honestly tell you that everyone I know, including close friends of hers, is quite surprised that she did get in. I could go on and on about the way I feel and about certain flaws there are in the whole process of accepting students into medical school but I think that I would be doing an injustice to this great thread if I did so.

PM me if you want to know more details...I really need to vent.
:p

arg.. believe me I understand what you are saying.

"how did he/she ever become a doctor?!"

Blazed, I'm still not convinced that the CCL is ranked. I know for sure that the waitlist is ranked but it is a very confusing process that Temple seems to go through when it comes to choosing off the CCL. Although if you go by what Gower says on that medicalgold website, the CCL is ranked.

I feel like a freak because I want to know so much more about the process and calling the admissions office has brought me so few answers. I really hope that letter we are supposed to get will answer all of them. Please post new info when you get any, I would truly appreciate that.

By the way, the girl I know who just got in was interviewed in mid January not February, if that makes any difference.

SolidGold,

I called Temple just today and asked

"im not familiar with the system at Temple, is the CCL roughly equivalent to a wait-list"

"yes"

"is the list ranked"

"yes"

"is it possible for you to tell me my position on the list? :) "

"no sorry, that is confidential information"

Unless the lady flat out lied to me on the phone, then it is indeed ranked. And I'm not lieing to you or anything :)

She also said that there would be a mailing going out around the end of the month to EVERYONE on the CCL list. She told me that in the context of our discussions on how the CCL list works, so I assume the letter will describe the system to us, and not actually contain a decision.

Hope this helps :)

Oh yea, and if anyone is able to get them to tell you your position on the waitlist, please let us all know. Cause then we can call and say "well you told someone on the SDN forum, so tell me".. gotta love the domino effect :)

Thanks for the input Solid and Markus. I am going to call Temple tomorrow and see what kind of info I can get out of them. IfI find out anything new I will be sure to post it.
:p

Well I called the admissions office and received the exact same information as Markus. The lady said that a letter will be sent explaining the process. These people make it sound like classified information, ridiculous.

Does anyone know if the letters we are supposed to get are personalized (maybe indicating what category we are in) or a generic letter that tells us about the process in general?

When I refer to category, I mean the same ones that are used to rank the actual waitlist, the categories being "Most likely" "Likely" or "Not so likely"? Funny thing is that my tour guides both were on the actual waitlist and both were able to call the admissions office to get which category they were in. (I brought all of this stuff up in previous posts on this thread) I guess its different with the CCL.

Ok, this might be INSANELY premature.

but have any of you thought about where you will live if you get into Temple. I'm a NYer, so I don't have a clue about Philadelphia. In fact, it was my first time to Philly when I went for my interview.

Anyone know of a good community with other med students? A few of my buddies are in various medschools and they all seem to live in one of these "communities" where its just like 200-300 medstudents/gradstudents/etc.. and its quiet and safe, but gets rowdy on friday and sat. nights :)

I don't know how I'll commute to the school, but I do have a car that I love and would like to live somewhere that its safe to keep a car (maybee has a parking garage you can rent a spot in for a year?) I know Temple's own parking garage wasnt too expensive (by NY standards) so thats an option.

Anways, just throwing this out there, even if I don't get in, this info my help another out of stater whoose looking to get into Temple. So spill the beans if you know anything about living in philly :)

If I get in, I'll live in Center City.

That, of course, is if it doesn't work out sharing a 2BR apt w/ phyllstyl and proffit and Steve.

Rent is much less expensive there and they drive to and from school. Others choose to live in Center City, higher rent, parking concerns (but you can get in lots), but you are just a subway ride from work.

Is there something specific you would like to know about?

I also plan to get a place in Center City if I get in. Though I would not want to find a place there for more than $850 a month.

•I also plan to get a place in Center City if I get in. Though I would not want to find a place there for more than $850 a month.•••••Totally Do-able. You would want to stay along the broad street line for convenience though.. the nicer chunk of places with this consideration in mind fit in the following block:
18th st -> Market St -> Lombard St -> 9th St

Anything in that area and yer golden

Markus I am in the same boat as you. I am a NY'er and I do not know much about Philly, going for interview was only my second time there. If I get in I will probably live in Center City, or any where else that I can find a place for a resonable amount of money. I am going to bring my car so I would need a lace to park. But first thing is first I have to get in before I have to deal with any of this..

Solid another topic I saw a post written by you. You were talking about a URM who had low stats and no practice vision essay. Is it the same person who recently got the call, off the CCL?

Yeah, that's the one...I'm kind of bitter that she got in over me and the rest of us here still waiting because...well its...I think you know where I'm trying to go with this but I don't want to offend anyone... :p

Yeah I hear yopu Solid I understand where you're coming from. I am in the same boat as she is except my MCAT and GPA are higher. What da hell did she do to get that lucky. **** seems unfair. So, they have actually begun to call people of the CCL.... What can I say the girl should play the lotto.. )Probably she'll win and drop her spot...

A URM is an Under Represented Minority. I personally think having more URM's in Med school is very important so that certain communities have the opportunity for better health care.

Don't get me wrong, its not her MCAT or GPA that necessarily bothers me (18 first time then 22 second time MCAT and a 3.4 GPA), my stats are much better but not stellar either, its other things that you would only know about if you know her and her personality. I won't go into specifics because it would be unfair to her, but let me just say that even her closest friends agree with me, hell they are more adamant about the whole thing than I am. In other words, I don't think she will necessarily make a good doctor, or even a decent one. That is what frustrates me...I've worked 10 times harder than she ever did and I still have nothing to show for it right now. Meantime, I have already had my AMCAS submitted and processed and I am going to waste my summer to take the MCAT again because I won't let something like this happen again to me, plus all of the costs of applying....I'm pissed!

I don't get it either...we had the same interviewer and if you were to compare the feedback that the both us got from our interviewer, I may have come out of the interview with a slightly higher "rating" or whatever...so I know that my interview is not what separates the two of us.

Solid, that's some bull**** man. Makes me believe that this process is actually a crapshoot. I just sended in that dreaded AMCAS application. This process has taken a toll on me, and now I am coming to the realization that I have to go through it all over again. At this point I am just keeping my self busy. Letting out my anger boxing...  At least I am going to Miami in three weeks to meet up with some friends. Two of them are cheerleaders for the dolphins, so at least I can crack a smile about that. :D

NICE, I live in Miami, those Dolphins cheerleaders are hot as hell :D That should really get your mind off things...have fun!

Yeah, I can not wait. Hopefully by then I get that letter from Temple so at least I will have an idea of where they stand with us CCL applicants. You must love it out there in Miami. It is like my second home. I usually travel there about four to five times yearly. Keep me updated if you receive any new information.

Is there something specific you would like to know about?•••••I was told that many students live in the suburban areas near MCP Hahnemann, called East (or was it West) Falls and Germantown. I drove out to both those places, and I did not like them at all. Those neighborhoods looked reasonably safe, but they just seemed so downtrodden and bland. The area near Penn looked really cool. Although I did not drive out there, I was told that the suburbs farther afield than East Falls and Germantown are supposed to be nicer (some place called King of Russia).

I thought King of Prussia was some big mall

King of Prussia is a big mail, but it's also a town. I wouldn't recommend living around there - you'll end up spending tons of money shopping at the mall, and the traffic there is HORRIBLE.

markus, where you at?

I read on the MCP thread that Temple told you they would start accepting people next week?!

Hope that's true! :D
