Anyone on Temple's CCL list hear anything yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Foxy,

yeap,

I called up temple. I asked about my personal status, and withought asking my name they asked if I was on the CCL list.

Yes I am.

Then he said, there has been no movement because they haven't gone to the CCL list yet. He said he expects to go into the list starting next week and that a letter would be sent out to us.

The letter we already know about, but what I found interesting was that he told me there was no movement of CCL, without asking my name. So I have to believe that we are *ALL* in good shape and that its not "late".. yet

Next week it begins folks..... lets all hope for alot of movement this year :)

• I was told that many students live in the suburban areas near MCP Hahnemann, called East (or was it West) Falls and Germantown. I drove out to both those places, and I did not like them at all. Those neighborhoods looked reasonably safe, but they just seemed so downtrodden and bland. The area near Penn looked really cool. Although I did not drive out there, I was told that the suburbs farther afield than East Falls and Germantown are supposed to be nicer (some place called King of Russia).•••••See I grew up in the burbs, and am not ready to return there, so I can empathize with your dislike for the east falls and germantown areas. Manayunk is a bit nicer with more to do if you want to stay in the burbs.

As someone said, steer clear of KoP, too far out, and I76 is a NIGHTMARE.

I also would be cautious about west philadelphia (the area around penn). Many penn grad students live downtown for just that reason. Its a two train commute to temple from that area (El to Broad st subway) and parking can def. be sparse at times (as I had a car during 4 yrs of my undergrad there, I can attest to that) I, personally, am leaving the Penn area and moving to center city to attend temple.

I guess some of you missed what I posted last week. They are accepting off the CCL at this time because I know a girl who was on the CCL that was accepted last week. She was given a call by Temple to let her know the news.

I have not personally called Temple since just before June and I was told decisions would be made at the end of June, at that time, but someone I know got in off the CCL already, so they must have looked at the CCL and movement has obviously started. Why would they tell you that they have not started to look at the CCL yet? I'm so confused!

I think Temple has a different admissions committe for URMs...I forgot where I read/heard that, though. So maybe nobody's lying.....

I'm a third year temple student. I was just looking over this thread and thought I'd answer a few questions.

(1) From what I understand of Temple's admissions process, almost everyone who is interviewed gets either accepted or waitlisted. An applicant must do something fairly spectacular during his/her interview to get flat-out rejected (eg. talk about sexual conquests, video game conquests, etc.)

(2) The waitlists at temple def. move--all summer long. I'd guess that about 1/3 of my class came off the waitlist. One student was accepted during orientation. So do not give up hope.

(3) There is no special AdCom for URMs! Where did you get that idea? There is a special URM recuitment effort, obviously. Most schools recruit URMs. Temple does so very successfully. I have no idea about premed stats of URMs in my class, but there is no qualative difference between the quality of student. Temple is a diverse school full of bright, high-achieving students.

(4) As far as places to live, listen to Phllystyl--his info is good. I personally like center city--a very fun place for young people. The extra money I pay in rent, I save by not having a car.

Good luck to all of you!

Thanks for the info. Good news to hear that 1/3 of the class comes off the waitlist. On the other hand it is not a good thing to know that people are either waitlisted or accepted. I do know of one girl who was rejected post interview. I wonder what she did??? Good to hear some info from someone who has been attending the school.

Yeah, thanks for the info. That cleared up a couple of things but brings another question back in the spot light. Since there is not a separate adcom for URMs, why are we being told that the adcom has not looked at the CCL, yet I know of one person who has been recently accepted off the CCL?

Thanks for the info :)

Sorry about my misconception...I must have heard it on SDN somewhere.....rumors :(

Hopefully the list will start moving soon!

p.s. Who did you guys interview with? I'm forming a little hypothesis about my interviewer  Did anyone have Dr. Cadena (or dela Cadena)?

Solid that is the exact question that is puzzling me.  The adcoms seems to be giving people the run around. Foxy, I interviewed with Dr. Lamperti (Dean of Student Affairs)

I interviewed with Dr. Harakal from the Pharmacology department. She was a real sweetheart and I really could not have asked for a better and more relaxed interview.

She was also the same person who interviewed the girl I know who just got accepted off the CCL a little over a week ago.

What's this "hypothesis" that you have about the interviewer Foxy? I wonder if I might be thinking along the same lines.

Yeah Foxy, I am interested to hear about your hypothesis also??

i'll post it when im sober tomorrow

I just got the informational letter from temple.

Im happy :)

a little off the subject, but nobody replied to my post. How many lor's does Temple request? How about UMICH?

Thanks

noonnoono I'm not in at all!

The letter is that informational letter we've been discussing. It tells you how the CCL/waitlist works and is a good letter.

I'm happy in the sense that I'm happy with Temple for keeping us in the loop and letting us know where we stand.

It made a big difference to me

I received the letter also. I am happy to finally get some info from Temple, but I am not happy with my position on that list. Personally it really Sucks... All this wait for a letter that F#%#* my day up.. They finally called the CCL a waitlist on their letter, it took them this long. Well I hope some of you receive some good news.

I'm probable :)

But I'm upset b/c Finch starts July 29th and Temple says they plan to accept people until August 28th....although AAMC doesn't really allow acceptances after one matriculates.

Is there anything I can do, like maybe tell this info to Temple? I have relatives in the area and I REALLY want to go there.

bump b/c I'm going crazy

•okay, hopefully I can shed some light on this with this piece of info that I extracted from US News website. But this is not good news.

Fall 2000:
952 in-state applicants; 43% of them were interviewed; 68% of those interviewees were accepted.
6142 out-of-state applicants; 11% of them were interviewed; 27% of those interviewees were accepted.

So the good news is we've cleared a major hurdle. The bad news is that we, on average, stand only a 27% chance of getting in.•••••This was posted on April 4th (yes, I'm a FREAK reading this entire thread over )

That means out of the 6,142 out of state applicants, about 675 were interviewed, and about 182 accepted. So, I wonder how many people are in the "probable" section? If it's less than 182, I have an ok chance, right?

Any thoughts? I'm desperate for info here...

Editing: if Temple has a class close to 200 and 182 out of state acceptances were offered, that seems like a lot! :) Especially if out of staters make up at least 40% of the class.....that would mean 182 acceptances were offered total for about 80 spots. Can we say "over-analyze"? :p I wonder if I'm even making any sense, but at least I'm trying!

•I got this info from Gower on medicalgold regarding Temple's waitlist:

Temple: In early June, the wait-list is divided into 3 categories--likely, possible, unlikely--and ranked. A letter is sent giving likelihood.
In 2001, about 50 made is off the list. Greatest movement: August. Pennsylvanians most likely to be accepted from the most-likely category. Only extraordinary accomplishment will affect rank. in deciding whom to take from the wait-list, Temple looks closely at the secondary describing why the student why the students wants to attend.•••••I found this post from April....looks like movement happens in August :( That's bad for me

we need more numbers to play with, but all i can guess from all this is that temple is going to accept double the # of ppl to fill their slots.

If 50 people eventually came to the school from the waitlist last year, then I'd say the probable section has about 90-100 people in it.

assuming 10% of ppl get rejected (just making this figure up) after the interview, that leaves 600 ppl to go on the CCL list (in reference to out of staters). Now you said 40% of the class are out of staters.. so that means 20 ppl from the list come from out of state. Assuming temple lists double the # of ppl for each spot, thats 40 out of staters on that list, 60 instaters......

just thinking aloud. no facts here.

If 50 people came off the list last year, and our letter states that usually most of the "probable" candidates get in, I'd say instead of 90-100 people on the probable section, maybe there are about 60 people...50 sounds like most of 60 to me  ...I'm making the numbers seem optimistic now....

Damn, no letter for me yet, hopefully I get it tomorrow. Let me get something straight though, the letter tells you what your general position is on the waitlist and tells you what the chances are of getting accepted at that position?

People messing with the stats. Realize, a ton of people will withdraw before temple ever gives them a chance at an aceptance. (me being one of them. So out of the 600 people who interviewed, I would guess 200 got into thier stat school before the CCL started moving, so they never were considered for admission. Chances are still very good.

That's right Solid. I am placed in the possible section, so I am a little doubtful on my chances. Ranking is affected only with extraordinary achievement. What the hell is extraordinary: winning an olympic medal... Damn... You should be getting yours in today.

-------------------------------------------------
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. So what da hell time was it?????

Damn again, still no letter after wasting half my day for the mailman. I have to be patient until Monday.

Jal's anaylsis sounds about right. I was on the CCL list when I applied but I think they knew that I wasn't too ethusiastic about the school since I had mutiple other interviews at other schools who have better reputation. I didn't do too much once I got on to the CCL, and boy did I wait a long time to even know that I was on the CCL (more than 6 months! which kind of got me angry and decreased my interest in attending accordingly!) I think Temple needs to know that if they don't actively grab students to come to your school, they will loose students like me who were on the verge of picking between it and another school.

I called today and they don't expect to send out any acceptances from the CCL until late July :(

She said they are oversubscribed and the rate of withdrawals has been slow

AAHHHH! Then why is it that this girl that I know was accepted from the CCL already! :p

Foxy, I just realized that it is kind of bad news that no acceptances will not be going out until late July because thats when CMS starts classes and I know that Temple would be a better option for you because you have family closer to Philly. Hang in there, I think withdrawals at Temple should start to speed up in the next few weeks as more schools have other waitlist movement. I'm still assuming though that AMCAS delays still might have a small effect on waitlist movement this year, might be a stretch though this late in the game. Anyways, you still have a great chance since you are in the probable category.

I'll be spending half my day again waiting for the mailman for my letter from Temple about the CCL, hopefully it gets here today, I need to hear something.

You're exactly right Solid...in fact, I've been wishing lately that I never got into CMS....but in any case, I'm making plans for CMS and getting an apartment today just in case. :) I have no idea what's gonna happen with Temple but I called them today to let them know my predicament and they supposedly made a note in my file.

Foxy hang in there. I understand that you want to be close to family. That is the same thing with me. Most of my family lives in New York, so it is no secret that I would like to go to med school around that area. I remeber you said that you grew near Valhalla. I live in Yonkers now, grew up in the Bx. Any way Temple should at least try to get you in as early as possible since they now know about your situation. Good Luck to you and my dawg Solid.

Yeah, I grew up in Westchester, but now I have an aunt, unle, cousins (my age) and my grandpa in a nursing home about 30 minutes away from Temple in NJ...plus every other relative (and my car) in NY....so I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)

Good luck to you!

Last night I came home ( I was out of town all weekend) and I found a thin letter from Temple in our gigantic stack of mail. So I opened it and it basically gave me the status of my application. Anyway, they put us CCLers in a couple of categories. I was in the group that was most likely to get in. (I can't recall the name of it, maybe it was the Probable Category?) I will go home and get the letter and give you guys more info if you want it. Good luck folks.

Movement that late huh... that sucks.. more waiting....

I got the letter today, looks like we're in the same boat Blazed. Hopefully waitlist movement picks up soon and we end up being one of the 50% of applicants who are accepted from the possible category of the alternate list.

Actually, I'm kind of confused now, if the probable people are told that they will most likely get accepted, why tell those on the possible category that at least 50% will end up with an acceptance? Would it not mean that all the probable candidates will get in and then 50% of possibles will get in? I guess I'm trying to overanalyze the wording of the letters.

markus, would you mind sharing what category you are in?

A third year student told me that usually half of the possible peeps get in and all of the probable and sometimes, some of the unlikely do...but the lady today said movement was slow and they are oversubscribed :(...hopefully things will speed up soon!

Solid Gold,

Im a "probable". Lets see how this whole game pans out..

Foxy,

Oversubscribed? Does that mean they still have more acceptances outstanding then seats available? imagine if noone else dropped their acceptance.. i guess temple will have to open up the class a bit :)

Yeah, oversubscribed is an odd word to use. Does it mean that they have too many people on the alternate list because they expected more withdrawals or does it mean that they have too many acceptances out there right now.

So Foxy, I guess you will be withdrawing from Temple after your awesome acceptance to UF. :D
Congrats once again! :)

Foxy congrats, I am very happy for you!!!! You get to stay down there with that year round beautiful climate... Solid looks like we are stuck in the middle of that waitlist. Hopefully we get some love, and they sneak us up in there. This oversubscribed thing has be a bit confused. Did more people than usual committ to their acceptances? Then if that is true, no one from the waitlist might get in. Looks like Temple screwed themselves over.

I wonder if Temple panicked when they were delayed by two months in the whole process this year because of the AMCAS problems. During my interview I heard that they made some adjustments to make up for the delays, maybe they accepted an excess of people (the amount they would have accepted in 2 months advance) to make up for the delays. They might have screwed themselves, I just don't want to think that people like me and Blazed will get screwed. I hate being in the middle of things too.

I was just talking to my father about withdrawing from Temple's waitlist today when Temple called me up and accepted me! This was so unexpected! She said they haven't started accepting people off the waitlist yet, but the director told the Dean of my predicament (about Finch starting so early) and the Dean said since I eventually would have gotten in, they might as well do it now.....so, I'm pretty sure I'm withdrawing, but I'm gonna think it over today b/c I have tons of relatives 25 minutes from Temple while my family is 4-5 hours away from UF---but the money is gonna keep me in FL

Solid that is an excellent point. That must be the reason why they offered so many acceptances. The panicked and they screwed themselves over. Solid we just got to hang in there and see what transpires. Foxy everything seems to be going your way, congrats once again, you deserve it. Do yourself a favor and go out and buy a lottery ticket. If you win don't forget about me, all I want is a yellow corvette with the 18 inch chrome rims. :D :D

Thanks Blazed :)

I think they are oversubscribed because they wanted to increase their class size this year, so they must have handed out a lot of acceptances...I'm confident the CCL people will get in, it's just a matter of time

Good luck everyone!

Just another thought, if Temple wanted to increase their class size and they did that by accepting more people, wouldn't they be on track for what they wanted their class size to be? In other words, they would not be oversubscribed if they wanted their class size to larger this year.

Time to sit on my butt and wait it out, this summer is going to be very long...

BTW Foxy, do you have any luck to spare that you could lend me? Let us know what school you will choose, though I think we all know its going to UF. :D

I am choosing UF and withdrawing from Temple tomorrow, before I even have the acceptance in my hand. Good luck to you guys! I REALLY hope you get in!
